jmed999 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I am working with Weatherbug to try to get light data to our climate module. I'm hoping they will be able to provide this soon. You can follow here... http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=17586.0
wrj0 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Thanks for you efforts, jmed999. It would be great to have WeatherBug light data available in ISY programs. The only thing better would be to be able to read data directly from a Davis weather station on ISY's network.
sbuckler Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Another thank you, jmed999. I also would like to be able to access my own station through ISY, either via the Davis VP2 or VWS. The .csv files are easily redirected to any file location through VWS. Stan
jmed999 Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 You guys may also be interested in this... viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10176 You can access your own station via you Davis VP2 using WeatherlinkIP. Check out the last link in the thead I linked the service is $18/year and works great!
jmed999 Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 It would be nice if we could get our ISY to either get data directly from the Davis station or directly from Weather Underground. There's a ton of stations around me that are on Wunderground but not on weatherbug, hence the reason I had to buy my own. Most of the weather station owners do not like weatherbug. Wunderground has much more useful info for our ISYs as compared to weatherbug. ie. light percentage, forecasting, historical charts, etc. The guy in the links above uses a srting to read from weatherlink to send data to weathebug so you don’t need a meteohub. The same could be done to read from Wunderground to send to the ISY.
sbuckler Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I agree it would be more beneficial to access the data from our own stations output. Currently I am using Virtual Weather Station to send my data in real time to HomeSeer, WeatherUnderground, and WeatherBug. Within VWS you can redirect the data files to any file location you want. Setting up weatherunderground and weather bug are done through VWS. Since recently purchasing the ISY and beginning to see it's great potential, I hope to eliminate HomeSeer completely and get my climate/weather info from the ISY. Stan
arw01 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Does WVS use modules or anything like that we can make up a little bit of code to use the rest commands and write that weather data into the ISY?
sbuckler Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I don't know if it uses modules. All I know is I can send three files: dbase.csv, data.csv (the real time file), and warnings.txt to any file location or url and to update those files at specified time settings. Of course there is ftp upload as well. If looking at the .csv files would help I could send them. I am not a programmer at all....just know enough to get in trouble. I remember reading on here that WeatherUnderground wanted to charge UD to use their data which was prohibitive. Ideally, I would like to see if there is a way to send my own data directly to my ISY. Maybe there is not enough of us with our own stations to warrant this. VWS can use connections from several manufactures of weather stations. Stan
jmed999 Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Not everyone has VWS or Weatherlink. We do all use weather underground though. If I could ask for a change it would be to use WeatherUnderground and not Weatherbug! One could create a script to get the info from Weather Underground. This would be a huge advancement in the climate module! Or use weatherlink. You could get all the info from weatherlink and send to our controller. On another though...is VWS free? If so that may be the way to go since using WU would cost the UD guys $$$.
sbuckler Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 No VWS Internet addition is $99.95 from Ambient Weather. I checked Weatherbug stations and WU stations in my area and there are many more WU stations near me.

Here is the difference. Michel Kohanim Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Hi Guys, When we initially started, WU wanted an exorbitant amount of up front money for licensing and usage + service fees for each instance. Based on our calculations, we would have had to charge at least $100.00 per module per year just to break even. With kind regards, Michel
jmed999 Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 Thanks for chiming in. I'm now trying to get Weatherbug to provide us more infor from our stations. See this thread... http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=17601.0 Michel, do you care to tell them how they could improve the in for they provide to our Climate modules? I have their ear so anything we would like to improve they are willing to listen. Thanks for your help!
