Testing of both email and text in groups does not work

I've created two groups for notifications - one to send me an text message and the other to send me an email message. The recipient for my text message is: 9492306096@vtext.com and for my email message is john@avacap.com. And, I've hit "save". But, when I hit "test", neither works. They don't work in programs either. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid but I can't figure out what it is. Help! I'm embarrassed to say how many hours I have spent trying to figure this out.

Configure browser push notifications
Chrome (Android)
  1. Tap the lock icon next to the address bar.
  2. Tap Permissions → Notifications.
  3. Adjust your preference.
Chrome (Desktop)
  1. Click the padlock icon in the address bar.
  2. Select Site settings.
  3. Find Notifications and adjust your preference.
