Xathros Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 In playing with the ISY this afternoon, I noticed that the event viewer has an option "0 - None" as opposed to "1 - operational events" or "3 - Device Communiction Events" I selected "0 - None" just to see what it would do and the event viewer continues to show traffic and variable changes as they occur. What is the intended purpose for this log level ? -Xathros
LeeG Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 That is odd. I changed level from the default 1 to 0. At level 0 the event viewer did not show Insteon traffic. Changed it to 3 and see all the Insteon traffic. Changed it to 0 and Insteon traffic stopped. Did not try variable updates.

Michel Kohanim Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Hi Xathros, It's quite possible that some other client is changing the level back to 3. 0 = no traffic whatsoever. With kind regards, Michel
Xathros Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Hi Xathros, It's quite possible that some other client is changing the level back to 3. 0 = no traffic whatsoever. With kind regards, Michel Hi Michel- While I do access the admin console from 3 different machines, I don't think I've ever been connected from two or more simultaneously and certainly was not when I posted that yesterday. By "other client" do you mean another instance of the console? If not, then what? Also, the trace I posted doesn't look like a level 3 trace to me. As I recall, level 3 has more info than this one. Thanks. -Xathros
LeeG Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Another client would be something like MobiLinc, the DSC support, etc that is setting the level to 1 from the looks of the posted trace.
Xathros Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Another client would be something like MobiLinc, the DSC support, etc that is setting the level to 1 from the looks of the posted trace. Thanks Lee- I do use Mobilinc extensively but had no idea that it did anything with the event viewer. And I agree that it looks like level 1. I have noticed that if I set the event viewer to 0 then close and reopen the event viewer it is back at level 1 but I just assumed that 1 was the default. In testing just now I find that if I set level 3, close and reopen, it is still at level 3 however if I set 0 then close and reopen, its at level 1 so something is forcing a minimum of level 1 on my event viewer. During this testing the only things in contact with the ISY were the admin console on my laptop and caiwc running on my pogoplug. I don't think caiwc is doing anything to change the event viewer log level but I will suspend it's operation and see if it makes a difference. -Xathros EDIT: Stopping the caiwc connection makes no difference. My event viewer seems to be stuck with a minimum of level 1
LeeG Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 I doubt the cai stuff is changing the event viewer unless it has ISY specific support. I have assumed the Admin Console insures the event viewer starts off active. Either at level 1 or something higher if previously set to a higher level (2 or 3). I would expect the event viewer to stay at level 0 so long as the event viewer remains active and another client is not used.
Michel Kohanim Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Hi Xathros, Yes, level is 1 when you open Admin Console/Event Viewer up. It goes back to zero when you close the Admin Console. The level is global. So, if you had your Admin Console up, changed the level to 0, then opened another admin console/event viewer, then the level would be one till that one is closed. With kind regards, Michel
Xathros Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Thanks again Lee. That makes perfect sense. Today, the log seems to be staying empty with level 0 selected unlike yesterday. I don't think anything aside from my upgrade to 3.3.10 has changed. It now behaves as you describe. -Xathros
