Ahh thanks! Didn't know such a thing was an option. I just figured more non battery z wave devices = better reception and that's as much as you could do
-
OK thanks. I wasn't sure what was what given the housing has 2 coax looking connectors on it
-
One other quick question... I see there's a z wave board/enclosure and enclosure only. My isy has the wave built in so I assume there's not a board I can pull out of that and just put in a new enclosure or is it not worth the hassle?

Stellar, thanks for that info!

Hi all, currently running an isy and the license for remote access has run out. I don't feel like going to an eisy right now (Christmas lights on programs) but I do miss the remote control. If I renew the isy remote access License and switch to an eisy over the winter, will the license transfer or be prorated?

I switched it to DHCP on the console and reserved the IP on the router.... went back into the launcher after the ISY rebooted and back to not finding it. I had to put in its reserved IP address to get in and all is fine but i guess my setup is just finicky

Poked around more with this when I got home from work and while I have DHCP on the router (101 and higher for the 4th octet), I for whatever reason have a static IP set on the ISY (.5). I'm wondering if I did it so that I could find it from outside the LAN? It's been so long since I've had to change anything on the setup here, I'm not sure why I did it.... The theory is I shouldn't have to set a static IP to access from outside the LAN, right?

SUCCESS! The iox finder wouldn't find it, but i was able to get the IP Address after the router cleared all leases and then i could confirm IP vs MAC Address on the ISY and give that to the launcher. Thanks for going down the rabbit hole with me! Buys me some time before I decide what I'm going to do with the eISY

there definitely is something up, tho I don't know what or how. i just looked on my router (linksys) for all LAN connections and I don't see anything that looks like the ISY. it's on port 4 of the router, when I power cycle the ISY, the router light goes off and comes back on as expected. But..... Oddly I do see one of my cameras on the LAN connections even tho it's clearly wireless and says wireless. I'm going to try to release all DHCP leases and see what that does

Ah ok. I swear it was the same light blue as my other patch cables so... i'll take a look at the steps above in a bit, for now I'm letting it sit there and think about itself lol!

Also going back to something from earlier about the connection between the PLM in the wall outlet and my ISY, that is just a normal cat 5 cable. I just went and looked again. It's how it's always been. My mother, when she was still alive, had the same setup at her house. Just a normal blue patach cable

HP laptop (the one I've always used) running Win 10 pro. And yep, I have the launcher on my desktop and that's what I'm clicking on. I swear I fight with this thing every Christmas season. lol!

I downloaded the latest Java version (version 8, update 431) but when I click on the link, it downloads the start file. I laungh that with JavaWS and it doesn't find my ISY
-
Thank you! That gives much clarity. I don't have to rush into anything then. The only issue I have is that when I bring up the IoX Launcher, it says not found and when I go to add based on the UUID at https://my.isy.io/index.htm it appears to only want a URL and says invalid URL when I put the UUID in. Not matter what I click on at my.isy.io, it says access license expired. It's definitely online and works because every nite my window candles come out at sunset and go off at 22:30
-
Also I should add on my phone, I use Agave for instant control of things but I'm not tied to it if there's better options. I also don't care if everything comes over or not, I have no problem re-adding all the switches and such to essentially have a clean install.

Hi all, I have an ISY944 and I let the license expire a few weeks ago. Seems like there's a hard push to get over to eisy but I'll admit, I know nothing about it. I have a mix of Insteon, X-10 (very limited these days) and Z-wave plug in units. I have a PLM that goes from my wall outlet to the ISY with a Cat 5 cable that I'd like to get rid of if possible but I don't think I can right? I believe insteon needs that? I don't do anything too crazy, mainly just remote control of lights and turning everything on and off at Christmas. I don't want to pay the $44 license fee on the ISY now if I'm going to be upgrading but I'm kind of under the gun since it's Christmas list time. thanks for any advice!

Oooofff.... me being dumb an in a hurry, I wasn't using the IoX launcher. All seems right with the world

Hi there, I'm not exactly new, but not very advanced either. Working with an ISY that has been fine so I haven't gone to the eISY yet. Wanted to change some programs we have going and the page comes up blank on the admin console like there's no programs. Yet when I go to the ISY via the web access, I see them, but not all the if/then etc part, just the enabled, startup, running, last run etc. And I can only enable/disable, not edit. Obviously the programs are there somewhere but not sure how I can edit them beyond enable/disable. Also when I click programs in the ISY console, i get a "not implementd" pop up and at first there's a green arrow looking thing on the "my programs" folder but when I double click to look in the folder, it hangs and then the green goes away. Any advice? thanks!

As a new thing since there's been an UPS in this house on the same plug it's on for years? I'm not debating, just trying to learn. I'll try that later tonite once I'm done with work and can reconfigure cords. Would the suggestion be to use a filter linc or something on the UPS since I can't go without the UPS.
-
I had tried that off the get go. That wall of the office has 3 sets of outlets, we'll call them 1 - 2 - 3 left to right. The PLM always was plugged into 1 when my mom was here and up until about 2 months ago. Then I decided to try to consolidate wires and clean it up so I moved PLM from 1 to 2 and UPS with laptop/etc from 3 to 2. It worked fine for at least a few weeks AND was fine even when Christmas lights were added. Then for no reason crapped out. So I thought along the lines you are and figured must have too much going on, so I moved PLM back to outlet 1 and saw no change in behavior. Solid green, Z wave and X10 working fine, just no insteon.
-
I thought the same too and had to double check that I wasn't nuts but I stood there and watched 3 X10 devices work while nothing on insteon would. I don't have any battery devices but it looks like the steps I took worked ok. I have an ISY listed for sale and said I wasn't selling the PLM because of the failure I've already had on one a few years ago. Will take a look at your "repaired" thread more closely but one thing to note from a brief skim is that my green light never went out or dimmed on the "bad" PLM. Which that, plus the fact that x10 worked, really makes me wonder if there was suddenly something else going on but I can't imagine what.
-
well I can safely say I think I found the issue, the *&^%$#! PLM died. I happened to have a spare from our old house so I followed these instructions: ---------- To replace a PLM: i. Unplug ISY from the power outlet ii. Unplug the PLM from ISY and power outlet iii. Connect ISY’s port A to the new PLM iv. Plug the new PLM into a power outlet v. Plug ISY into a power outlet vi. Open the browser to ISY’s GUI and wait for system initialization to complete vii. Click on the Restore Modem (PLM) menu option --------------- And suddenly all is working again. I noticed before I did this that the lights on the ISY when sending a signal would just be very quickly the Rx and Tx at the same time. Now with the "new" PLM, on sending signal it's Rx/Tx basically at the same time, but then the Rx flashes again right after. Does that help confirm the first PLM bit the dust? Given that z wave and x 10 were working ok, it would seem like it. This is the second PLM I've had that has died randomly. There's no way around using them is there?
