  1. I switched it to DHCP on the console and reserved the IP on the router.... went back into the launcher after the ISY rebooted and back to not finding it. I had to put in its reserved IP address to get in and all is fine but i guess my setup is just finicky
  2. Poked around more with this when I got home from work and while I have DHCP on the router (101 and higher for the 4th octet), I for whatever reason have a static IP set on the ISY (.5). I'm wondering if I did it so that I could find it from outside the LAN? It's been so long since I've had to change anything on the setup here, I'm not sure why I did it.... The theory is I shouldn't have to set a static IP to access from outside the LAN, right?
  3. SUCCESS! The iox finder wouldn't find it, but i was able to get the IP Address after the router cleared all leases and then i could confirm IP vs MAC Address on the ISY and give that to the launcher. Thanks for going down the rabbit hole with me! Buys me some time before I decide what I'm going to do with the eISY
  4. there definitely is something up, tho I don't know what or how. i just looked on my router (linksys) for all LAN connections and I don't see anything that looks like the ISY. it's on port 4 of the router, when I power cycle the ISY, the router light goes off and comes back on as expected. But..... Oddly I do see one of my cameras on the LAN connections even tho it's clearly wireless and says wireless. I'm going to try to release all DHCP leases and see what that does
  5. Ah ok. I swear it was the same light blue as my other patch cables so... i'll take a look at the steps above in a bit, for now I'm letting it sit there and think about itself lol!
  6. Also going back to something from earlier about the connection between the PLM in the wall outlet and my ISY, that is just a normal cat 5 cable. I just went and looked again. It's how it's always been. My mother, when she was still alive, had the same setup at her house. Just a normal blue patach cable
  7. No firewall or anti virus. Confirmed VPN is off (and app closed)
  8. HP laptop (the one I've always used) running Win 10 pro. And yep, I have the launcher on my desktop and that's what I'm clicking on. I swear I fight with this thing every Christmas season. lol!
  9. I downloaded the latest Java version (version 8, update 431) but when I click on the link, it downloads the start file. I laungh that with JavaWS and it doesn't find my ISY
  10. Thank you! That gives much clarity. I don't have to rush into anything then. The only issue I have is that when I bring up the IoX Launcher, it says not found and when I go to add based on the UUID at https://my.isy.io/index.htm it appears to only want a URL and says invalid URL when I put the UUID in. Not matter what I click on at my.isy.io, it says access license expired. It's definitely online and works because every nite my window candles come out at sunset and go off at 22:30
  11. Also I should add on my phone, I use Agave for instant control of things but I'm not tied to it if there's better options. I also don't care if everything comes over or not, I have no problem re-adding all the switches and such to essentially have a clean install.
  12. Hi all, I have an ISY944 and I let the license expire a few weeks ago. Seems like there's a hard push to get over to eisy but I'll admit, I know nothing about it. I have a mix of Insteon, X-10 (very limited these days) and Z-wave plug in units. I have a PLM that goes from my wall outlet to the ISY with a Cat 5 cable that I'd like to get rid of if possible but I don't think I can right? I believe insteon needs that? I don't do anything too crazy, mainly just remote control of lights and turning everything on and off at Christmas. I don't want to pay the $44 license fee on the ISY now if I'm going to be upgrading but I'm kind of under the gun since it's Christmas list time. thanks for any advice!
  13. Oooofff.... me being dumb an in a hurry, I wasn't using the IoX launcher. All seems right with the world
  14. Hi there, I'm not exactly new, but not very advanced either. Working with an ISY that has been fine so I haven't gone to the eISY yet. Wanted to change some programs we have going and the page comes up blank on the admin console like there's no programs. Yet when I go to the ISY via the web access, I see them, but not all the if/then etc part, just the enabled, startup, running, last run etc. And I can only enable/disable, not edit. Obviously the programs are there somewhere but not sure how I can edit them beyond enable/disable. Also when I click programs in the ISY console, i get a "not implementd" pop up and at first there's a green arrow looking thing on the "my programs" folder but when I double click to look in the folder, it hangs and then the green goes away. Any advice? thanks!
  15. As a new thing since there's been an UPS in this house on the same plug it's on for years? I'm not debating, just trying to learn. I'll try that later tonite once I'm done with work and can reconfigure cords. Would the suggestion be to use a filter linc or something on the UPS since I can't go without the UPS.
  16. I had tried that off the get go. That wall of the office has 3 sets of outlets, we'll call them 1 - 2 - 3 left to right. The PLM always was plugged into 1 when my mom was here and up until about 2 months ago. Then I decided to try to consolidate wires and clean it up so I moved PLM from 1 to 2 and UPS with laptop/etc from 3 to 2. It worked fine for at least a few weeks AND was fine even when Christmas lights were added. Then for no reason crapped out. So I thought along the lines you are and figured must have too much going on, so I moved PLM back to outlet 1 and saw no change in behavior. Solid green, Z wave and X10 working fine, just no insteon.
  17. I thought the same too and had to double check that I wasn't nuts but I stood there and watched 3 X10 devices work while nothing on insteon would. I don't have any battery devices but it looks like the steps I took worked ok. I have an ISY listed for sale and said I wasn't selling the PLM because of the failure I've already had on one a few years ago. Will take a look at your "repaired" thread more closely but one thing to note from a brief skim is that my green light never went out or dimmed on the "bad" PLM. Which that, plus the fact that x10 worked, really makes me wonder if there was suddenly something else going on but I can't imagine what.
  18. well I can safely say I think I found the issue, the *&^%$#! PLM died. I happened to have a spare from our old house so I followed these instructions: ---------- To replace a PLM: i. Unplug ISY from the power outlet ii. Unplug the PLM from ISY and power outlet iii. Connect ISY’s port A to the new PLM iv. Plug the new PLM into a power outlet v. Plug ISY into a power outlet vi. Open the browser to ISY’s GUI and wait for system initialization to complete vii. Click on the Restore Modem (PLM) menu option --------------- And suddenly all is working again. I noticed before I did this that the lights on the ISY when sending a signal would just be very quickly the Rx and Tx at the same time. Now with the "new" PLM, on sending signal it's Rx/Tx basically at the same time, but then the Rx flashes again right after. Does that help confirm the first PLM bit the dust? Given that z wave and x 10 were working ok, it would seem like it. This is the second PLM I've had that has died randomly. There's no way around using them is there?
  19. Not really a newbie but I'm having trouble so... Have various insteon switches, an X10 plug in unit for the front door wreath, a Z wave plug in unit for an inside display and then outside goes into one of 2 outdoor insteon plug in units. This has been fine all week, no issues. Came home tonite, only half the outside is on, the Z wave and the X10. Light switches not on, 1 outside plug in unit not on. Reload in agave, they're not giving the right status. Tried switches NOT on the christmas program, they don't work either from agave. Looked at the ISY as I was sending signals from agave. ISY Tx and Rx blink once for each insteon/X10 signal sent, about 6 times on Z wave. PLM light green as expected, unplugged, replugged same behavior. Went through launcher to admin console, throws errors that it can't communicate with ANY of the insteon devices. Nothing new has changed as far as what's plugged in tonite vs what was plugged in/running yesterday (confirmed my husband's xBox isn't on since we know that's a suck). Already have the phase coupler in the panel and have for years. Again, all was fine until we came home tonite. Any guesses? This is why insteon kind of annoys me, I feel like it's very finicky.
  20. awesome, thanks for confirming!
  21. Is there a way to factory reset it without having it on the network so to speak? i.e. power it up while pushing on the tiny unmarked pinhole in the front? Thanks! Will take a look there. Not sure what to ask for it. Looks like UDI sells refurb'ed non zwave for $99 and knowing there's more confidence buying refurb from company vs private sale, I was thinking $75'ish
  22. Hi all, I've combined houses and both had an ISY so I don't need the second one. First question is how can I wipe out settings on the one I'm not using, and second question, is there a market for used ones? It's an ISY994iZW (NOT the newer ZW+). Just figured if someone wanted to get into this cheaper than new. Not selling the 2nd PLM with it because if my current one fails, I'll have a backup. thanks!
  23. I do have some insteon switches yes and they seem to work fine. We put a phase coupler in the box years ago when we set the system up for my mother but I did notice some unreliability when we first moved into the house (this is my parents old house where the insteon already existed) that wasn't there originally so we weren't sure if things that got added with the remodel caused it or not but as of now, things seem ok with the switches. Now with Christmas upon us, I have old x10 plug in units in the mix as well so we'll see how those behave (also used in the past during the holidays when my mom was here but with the remodel who knows). I would actually like to add some more switches and perhaps outlets but it seems everything on amazon and smarthome is out of stock. I even tried to get an outdoor plug in module (we already have 2) and no dice on those. We aren't putting up our 12' tree this year since we're still unpacking boxes and that needed a filter with it so I'm hoping to limp through this holiday season and then really take a look at things over the winter when maybe stock comes back up. I do have a bunch of insteon switches and some X10 outlets I pulled from our old house before we sold it that I plan to try to make use of, I'm just not great with multiway switches and how those get wired so it's always a "trial". If I can get the bugs worked out (or kept at bay) I'm perfectly fine sticking with the insteon and x10 since it's what I know best. Going to post some separate threads related to used equipment (I have two smarthome hubs and an ISY) that I don't think I have use for now that we just have the one house and also looking for options to deal with a particular type of switch that I have for an overhead fan/light in the bedrooms.
  24. I can't believe I forgot about the launcher. When I used to link from my desktop, all is right with the world!! Firmware and UI versions match and it no longer says "not implemented". Woot woot!!!! So now I think I'm going to look for some more zwave plug in units since zwave seems like it'd be more stable than insteon. Might even do some wall switches too tho I need to read up on how 3 way or 4 way switches work with zwave (if their install is any different than insteon). What does zwave plus do vs zwave regular? Can I keep the 300 board for now, get zwave plus devices and have them work but maybe not to their full potential? Thanks guys for the whack over the head about the launcher!!
  25. From what I just read on the wiki, if I go to a higher 5.x then I will lose the 300 series z wave capability and I'm pretty sure that's what I have based on how old the ISY is and the looks of the back of it when the partly cut out circle.
