I have two ISY994i's, one at home and the other at the cabin, fired up the Mobilinc app to adjust thermostat at cabin and didn't work. Definitely worked a few weeks before and have changed nothing since then. Works fine on arrival over the local network/Wifi. I use a Netgear router with dyndns.org dynamic IP address service, and it is working and the router IP address and dyndns.org's info on the IP address is correct. Tried setting the Secure https manually to the router's current IP address and no difference. Tried changing my secure port from 555 to 443 and back, no difference (including on the ISY994i of course). Reset router, cable modem, ISY994i, Mobilinc, no difference. Error message received when trying to control a device: "Network Error. There was a problem sending the request. Please verify the connection settings in My Settings an try again. Error code: 0. Error Message: A connection failure occurred: SSL problem (Possible causes may include a bad/xpired/self-signed certificate, clock set to wrong date)" The cabin ISY994i is on firmware 4.2.18. Yes that's long in the tooth but I don't update unless there's an irresistible feature or a problem. My ISY994i at my main home seems to be working fine through Mobilinc although for some reason I cannot access it through the web browser. What now, update the firmware or am I missing something obvious? If firmware update is indicated, which version? Any theories what has happened? Mitch

Sounds difficult, but it will be fun. I hope. Bill, do you have some Dots now and just now ordered some more or are you just starting out? I have 12 on pre-order. I'm wondering because I'm not even sure how long the product has been out. It's described on Amazon as "All New" and is on pre-order. But there are some posters here who seem to know about it already. Mitch

I posted a question in the ISY994i about the Echo Dot, I thought it was brand new and being released on a delay from Amazon because it's so new, evidently it's not and there is some experience with it. So you experienced users, two questions, and some information. 1. Does the Echo Dot require a standard Echo as a hub to operate the Dots or can the work together by themselves? 2. I had this pipe dream of 6 Dots in my home, that you could say "turn on the light" and it turns on the light in that room no matter which Dot/Room you are in. It seems it can be done?? I'd be satisfied if it simply required you to specify which light. And for your information, Amazon is offering a buy 5 get 6 promotion, or buy 10 get 12. Generally speaking, I was really wanting the ISY994i or a new device to work with Siri, especially since I have an Apple Watch. I'm coming around to the idea that the Amazon Dot, strategically placed, voice activated, easy for non-techies in the family, and relatively cheap, is better. IF it works. Mitch

I'm considering getting a bunch of Amazon Echo Dot devices to distribute in the home. [i thought Siri would be nice in order to have one platform but I've come to realize that the Echo might be better for home use than even an Apple Watch on your wrist, and of course the ISY994i isn't compatible anyway] So will this scenario work once programmed? An Echo Dot in 5 rooms. You say at any location, "Echo turn on kitchen light", and light goes on? It'd be a pleasant surprise if I could say "Echo turn on the light" and it knows which room I am in and turns on the corresponding light, but not expecting that. Note that the Echo Dot is available for preorder at Amazon and if you use a coupon code you can get 6 for the price of 5 or 12 for the price of 10. (DOT6PACK, DOT12PACK). I'd hate to get them and find out it won't do what I want. Mitch

Not sure if there are special implications when using Amazon Echo alongside the ISY994i, but the August Smart Lock for your home can be controlled from the Echo. http://august.com/2016/07/28/alexa/

Since the iPhone is almost always on me I'd think their app would be extremely useful for those noisy environments. dbuss, you say "echos", you can have more than one in association with the ISY994i in a single home? I've contemplated getting the Insteon Hub Pro to replace (since they apparently can't work in parallel) the ISY994i in my small vacation home. But I'm a little worried that the programming capability will be found wanting. I use the powerful programming of the ISY994i a lot, including alarms and triggers and all the things we do with it, but did you know that the Hub Pro works with the programming brains being within the iPhone? Can you believe it? It seems so ludicrous that it couldn't be so, but apparently when you leave the house the programming you did stops.
-
Have you found that it listens through noise pretty well? Like a TV?
-
Anyone reading this been happy with it in conjunction with the ISY994i? Will the system communicate with the August Smart Lock somehow? Would have to be via something other than Siri! [Haven't searched the forum yet]
-
Bummer. No reason why one shouldn't be able to do both. But I did notice there's an Alexa app which I assume works similarly, give commands to the app if you are out of earshot of the device?
-
Ah didn't know that. They even have kits with the standard Insteon Hub and Echo, so the Pro with HomeKit capability isn't compatible?
-
I'm using August Lock, the latest model is HomeKit compatible. I like it a lot. I thought the Schlage is overall better because it has a keypad but it doesn't have the feature I like the most about the August lock - it doesn't unlock automatically when you approach it. It is positively eerie, and nice, to walk up to the door you locked before and it's now unlocked. Only the alert on your phone tells you that it unlocked and not that you forgot to lock it.
-
Yes. I've discovered I like locking the door with "Hey Siri lock the front door" and want more of it.

I have been waiting for a way to use my ISY994i with Amazon Echo and Siri along with my Insteon network at my main home and my vacation home, and was about to purchase the Insteon Hub Pro and an Echo to see if they would work in parallel. From what I can glean from Insteon, the ISY994i is much more powerful with programing, creating scenes etc. so I'm a little worried about mucking things up with the two working in parallel and having an Insteon Hub Pro paperweight. Then I came upon the sticky thread in Amazon Echo... So what to do? Get the Insteon Pro and Amazon Echo and perhaps be able to have it all with HomeKit, Siri integration, and Amazon Echo or just get the Echo? I'm assuming that the Amazon Echo + ISY994i doesn't yet do Siri/HomeKit? Mitch

Was thinking about getting rid of those anyway with their lack of dimmability and gradual warm up time to full brightness. Any evidence LED bulbs are a problem?
-
How does one find those signal suckers? I've tried to find the most troublesome Insteon link, unplug likely offenders, and one by one plug them in to no avail. Big job to turn off every electronic device in a home. Maybe try again sometime. I did stumble upon mention of CFLs being a problem, I have six in the home, but they came after the issues which have occurred since day one.
-
Very difficult to find that culprit! Yes definitely they are on opposite phases.
-
6000 sf home with dozens of switches, have always been played by intermittent sluggish response, multiple attempts required to add a new Insteon device, and other reliability issues. I limp along. I have four 2443 Range Extenders, all v. 1.0, guess I was an early adopter and filters where it seems likely noise could be a problem such as computer etc. power strips. Would the new 2992 Range Extenders have anything to offer? I use no RF devices currently. Mitch

Does Mobilinc Home in conjunction with the ISY994i Pro support turning devices on and off through the normal Siri activation i.e. with the double press from anywhere on the iPhone? Mobilinc Pro does but only when the app is running. Since the Dashboard exists for this sort of thing I view this ability as merely an amusement in that app. If so, does it work when Mobilinc Pro is installed as well? Mitch
-
From the Mobilinc Home page (link below) "Long press an accessory to see Siri voice command suggestions." That's ambiguous to me, I picture it as a means to allow reading of a command into the Mobilinc Home app. In the Mobilinc Pro there is a voice activation option at extra charge, and I did that, it works but requires the app to be running. Will post a question for Mobilinc Home users.

Well I conducted yet another forum keyword search and I think I found it: http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/13514-cannot-access-upgrade-file-on-mac-os-x/ Need to go into Safari settings and set the IP Address to Unsafe Mode and it did correct the weird dialog box file search problem, just did the downgrade to 3.3.10 and about to restore my backup, fingers crossed.
-
I'm afraid clearing the Java cache (all 3 checkboxes selected) had no effect, the dialog box to find the Firmware 3.3.10 (on the desktop of my Mac) still misbehaves. Not sure how helpful the details are, but it goes as follows: 1. Defaults to "Documents" 2. Select pulldown to go to use mitch (me) does nothing. 3. Go back to pulldown, wait cursor appears, and a small subset of folders appears (no documents). 4. Painfully getting to the desktop folder via these means shows only 3 subfolders from the desktop. 5. Tried workaround placing a copy of the 3.3.10 into the Documents folder (which it defaults to) and it still does not appear. That second link above opens an empty browser, takes no action, could that be a significant clue? Mitch
-
Yes, since Mobilinc Pro doesn't do Siri/HomeKit as far as I can tell, nor does Mobilinc Home app as far as I can tell from the cryptic website, I'm wondering if I can get the Insteon Hub to work in parallel to be that fancy remote. Don't get me wrong, the Mobilinc Pro app does a pretty god job and integration on the "Today" screen on the iPhone is nice, I am greedy, I want to be able to say "turn on ______" via the iPhone or Apple Watch. Possible? Hate to spend $100 and discover the ISY994i and Insteon Hub clash.

Had a catastrophic failure of my ISY994i, I believe due to a power glitch, forcing a factory reset which was successful. I thought this restored/downgraded the firmware to the current one at the time of manufacture, apparently I was mistaken... Anyway I did an automatic upgrade to 4.3.26, realized I need to downgrade to 3.3.10 in order to restore from my backup. When I try, this happens: 1. Select Manually Upgrade ISY in Java. 2. Defaults to my Documents folder and displays an incomplete list of its contents, a couple random folders. 3. Using a Mac laptop, copious bugs navigating through folders, won't go into detail but when navigating to any folder it displays a small number of subfolders only and not the 3.3.10 zip file no matter where I put it. 4. Tried doing another factory reset thinking it would downgrade the firmware and evidently it doesn't, it's stuck at 4.3.26. So I can't get to my downgraded firmware 3.3.10 in order to do a restore. Do I need to downgrade to the Java version present with 3.3.10 was the current one or something else? By the way, if I can't get that restore done, what's the most expeditious to walk the devices and download them and start from scratch with linking and programming if I have to? BIG JOB. Mitch

Thanks for the advice... Rumors of the demise of my ISY994i are premature, I successfully resurrected it. First I reset the PLM, no better. When firing up the ISY994i, the specific issue is the LEDs flash in a random and rapid peculiar way and lights start going wild in the house as if it's caught in a bizarre loop of code and delivering spurious lighting commands to the PLM. This happens to correlate with a problem we had with the WiFi here which is a symptom of power glitches. I was reluctant to to a factory reset because my last backup is 2 years old, but because it's not all that much different from today's data and can be updated, and because I had nothing to lose I did a factory reset and it's fine. Doing a firmware upgrade at this moment and little doubt it will be fine. So the question is now, how does an ISY994i user get Siri control? I'll start a new thread. The things I do with the ISY994i that I'm not confident the Insteon Hub will do are: 1. Lights on and off repeatedly through the day, such as bright stair lights at dusk, dimmer as the evening progresses. 2. Email alert when home in "Away" mode so any light control action sends a text. 3. Battery alert text for door sensor. 4. Temperature alert from the Venstar thermostat in the form of a text and email. 5. Other advanced programming with a lot of "if" and "else" that I can't recall because I take them for granted. Mitch
