Insteon Compatible T'Stats
PLCG- I ran into the exact same issue with my setup although mine is a single zone forced hot air system. I tried to find a way to just do a 3 wire run from the furnace to the Venstar but couldn't find a way to get the necessary connections at the furnace. I ended up buying a 24VAC transformer, pulling a run of 3 wire tstat wire to the tstat location and building a small relay circuit at the furnace to interface to the 2 wire line from the furnace. As I recall, I cost me all of about $20 for the wire and components from Radio Shack and another $20 for the transformer and jbox to mount that to. This has to be a fairly common problem and I'm surprised that nobody sells a conversion kit like this already built. If they do, I was unable to search it out. -Xathros

Large campus & Thermostat question?
pikach- Are both buildings on the same Ethernet network ? If so, An ISY (with the network resources module and either a dual band PLM or an access point) for the building with the thermostat. The dual band PLM or access point are required to communicate with the RF only thermostat. For the other building, you may be able to use a SmartLinc controller for the Insteon devices there and operate those over Ethernet from the network resources module via the SmartLinc. Not nearly as nice as having them all on the same Insteon network but I think this can meet your stated need. Michel, LeeG - Thought or comments on this approach ? -Xathros

Installing a Generac Generator
I'm not sure that inside the generator would be a friendly location for an IOLinc. There won't be line power there or a connection back to the rest of the insteon network unless the generator is running and the transfer switch has flipped to the generator side. This means no comms with that IOLinc under normal conditions. Also, the power at startup and shutdown of the generator is not going to be nice. I'm not sure how well the IOLinc will stand up to that. I think the house side of the transfer switch is the best place for the IOLinc to live. Thinking a bit more about the remote shutdown aspect, Cutting the power to the CDI is probably not a good idea as the generator will still likely continue trying to start thereby running down the starter battery. The low oil switch *should* prevent it from trying tho there may still be an active drain on the starter battery. Some testing beforehand should be done. I would think there is a method for taking the generator offline that you may be able to tap into and with any luck, that may be at the transfer switch. -Xathros

Release 3.2.6 Is Now Official
It's safer to do locally however, I have done this remote a number of times without issue. If you feel that you have a solid connection from the remote location to the ISY then you should be alright. If you have problems making the backup due to the remote connection, that would be a good indication that you are likely to have similar issues during the upgrade. In that case I'd say wait until you can work locally. -Xathros

Release 3.2.6 Is Now Official
hbsh01- Don't worry. Everything is retained through the upgrade. The first part of the update process prompts you to make a backup just in case anything goes wrong. Make sure you clear your Java cache AFTER the upgrade and BEFORE you attempt to log back into the admin console. -Xathros

Installing a Generac Generator
Nice looking installation there. Congrats! As for the remote shutdown my bet would be the low oil switch circuit for an easy relay operated remote generator shutdown. Of course, this means another pair run out to the generator. Otherwise maybe look for the V+ for the CDI and put some relay contacts in series with that line. -Xathros

3-way status LED update issue.
Thanks for the explanation Wes. This is a capability I didn't know existed in Mobilinc. I'll have to see if I can simplify any of my configuration using this. -Xathros

3-way status LED update issue.
The proper way to accomplish what you want in Mobilinc would be to make the scene for your 3way(s) a favorite(s). Make any other standalone devices favorites then everything you want will be on the favorites page in Mobilinc. You will control the 3way with a scene and the standalone devices as devices. I will have to play with the device icon thing that you mentioned. I don't believe that is the way it was intended to work. -Xathros UPDATE: I can confirm the device Icon in MobilincHD (Latest Version) acts as a scene controller for multiway configurations when accessed from a member device's device page.

Using a remotelinc2, setting a scene to be 'off' only?
SetMonkey13- My RemoteLincs are in toggle mode so the LEDs alternate between red/green but since I'm under program control my lights toggle regardless of the red/green state of the buttons. In one case, I have a single RemoteLinc button cycle through (low-med-high-off) for my bedroom ceiling fan with faston/fastoff presses setting the fan off regardless of where it was in the cycle. -Xathros

problem with outletlinc and isy-26 //status updating
I have been running my ISY-99 with my MAC's for several years now with no complaints. I download ISY firmware images with Firefox rather than Safari and choose "Save" when prompted to "Open or Save" the download. -Xathros

Release 3.2.6 Is Now Official
Is it possible that the ISY's static address is within the DHCP range on your router and the address has been issued to another device on your network (ip conflict) ? -Xathros

3-way status LED update issue.
scotcarter- I find that all new scenes that I create will appear at the very bottom of the device/folder/scene list in the order created until I quit and reload the console at which point they appear in the proper alpha sort position. Make sure you have scrolled to the bottom of the list to see if they show there. -Xathros

Using motion sensor to create "passing through" light zone
I think the problem is the motion sensor has not turned off yet. Unless it's in occupancy mode then there is a timeout that needs to run out before it turns off and becomes capable of sending "On" again. LeeG has an excellent understanding of these beasts and will hopefully chime in here. -Xathros

Using a remotelinc2, setting a scene to be 'off' only?
Sure. No problem with that at all. If you have a lot of devices then 5 seconds may not be a long enough wait for the first flood of traffic to subside. Pop open the event monitor and watch the traffic when you set that scene off manually. That should give you a feel for the timing. Also, if you have previously added that RL button to a scene, make sure you remove the button from any scenes its in and update the RL first or you may get some unexpected results if not just some extra traffic. I handle ALL of my RL buttons via program for just the reason you mentioned and so the toggle mode doesn't get out of sync when a scene is controlled by other devices or ISY. This makes for a lot of programs but I can manage programming without having access to the RL to write updates every time I change something. Never do I have to press a RL button more than once to toggle a scene. -Xathros

Using a remotelinc2, setting a scene to be 'off' only?
Hi Rich- How about create your scene but don't include the remotelinc button in it. Then create a program like: If Control RemoteLinc.A On or Control RemoteLinc.A Off Then Set Scene TheWorks Off Else I think that will do what you want independent of the Remotelinc configuration. -Xathros

Keypad button in a scene
This is normal expected behavior. Devices do not control other devices when controlled directly. Thats what the scene is for. -Xathros

Schedule Every Other Day
Thanks apostolakisl I just read through your stuff and there are some elegant pieces to that though it really does highlight the need for some native basic date/time calc capabilities in the ISY. -Xathros

Upgrade Issue with iPhone/iPad
Is there any pattern to the failures ? Like works over WiFi when home but not via 3g or WiFi away from home ? When you see this problem, do other web sites/apps still work on the iPhone ? Its hard to say if its a hardware problem or not but since the problem is limited to the iPhone, the the phone is the place to look for a solution. Something drastic to try would be to do a full backup of the phone with iTunes, factory reset the phone and restore from the phone from the backup. -Xathros

Schedule Every Other Day
phil- I would use an integer variable to indicate on/off days and run a program at the end of the day to flip it for you. Define: iWaterDay Value 0 Init 0 Program1: EndOfDay If Time is 11:59:00 Then Run Program WaterDayFlip IF Program 2: WaterDayFlip (Disable this program) If iWaterday = 0 Then iWaterDay=1 iWaterDay Init To 1 Else iWaterDay=0 iWaterDay Init To 0 Irrigation Program(s): If iWaterDay=1 And... Thats the idea. -Xathros

uestion:
Marc- I haven't heard of Norton being a problem with the ISY but Avast and Kaspersky are known to cause issues. You might try temporarily disabling Norton to see if it makes a difference. If it does, you may need to add some firewall rules to allow the ISY's ip address. -Xathros

Dealing with button 1 in multiple definitions (e.g., scenes)
Not directly but I have accomplished this by using an inlinelink. I did not use the load line on the keypadlinc and instead used the inlinelinc in a scene with button "H" on the keypad for the load (hallway light) on that box (2 gang) while button "A" is in a scene with button "A" from the keypad across the room and controls the load on that other keypad (ceiling light in main room). If no room in the box at the keypadlinc, you can pass the line through to the fixture, move the inlinelinc to the fixture and cap off the load lines at the keypadlincs. -Xathros

Link records in hex on screen vs. XML in output file?
To follow up on the subject of this thread, I dumped my links using the save option, converted the xml file to a dbf using the "Advanced XML converter". Opened the resulting file in Excel and used =DEC2HEX(H2,6) to convert the decimal back to hex then to dotted hex using =CONCATENATE(MID(J2,1,2),".",MID(J2,3,2),".",MID(J2,5,2)) NOTE: DEC2HEX is part of the Analysis Toolkit Add-In available from Tools/AddIns on the Excel menu. It took about 3 minutes to make a readable file that looks like: -or- A cheap way out: Open event viewer at level 3, then Show PLM links table, then save the event log as text file. Sort out the extra records and your done. Output looks like: Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:55 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 E2 00 12 12 D4 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:55 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 A2 01 12 12 D4 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:55 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 E2 00 12 12 1F 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:55 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 A2 01 12 12 1F 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:56 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 E2 00 12 11 B1 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:56 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 E2 00 12 13 BC 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:57 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 A2 01 12 11 B1 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:57 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 A2 01 12 13 BC 02 0D 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:58 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 E2 00 13 29 F9 02 14 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:58 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 A2 01 13 29 F9 02 14 38 Wed 05/16/2012 16:29:59 : [LNK-DATA ] 02 57 E2 10 12 11 B1 02 0D 38 I hope you find this useful. -Xathros
