  1. Thank you I was able to get this working with a state variable. I got past my original clunky idea and am comfortable with the implementation. Works great in my initial testing. Now you have me rethinking my original design, but this is a good thought. I have been entertaining a different design. In my garage I dont always have my phone and its a convince, but its a great point, I'm not sure how often I actually adjust the volume. To both of you. Thank you very much for replying. I always learn a lot from both of you in other posts and appreciate your contributions to the community.
  2. I'm working to replace my Insteon Hub functionality with Polisy and Node Servers. The last piece seems to be my Sonos control in my garage with a keypad linc. The KPL makes a great controller since I don't always have my phone with me and I typically have 3 stations I listen to, need volume up/down adjustment, and play/pause. The Hub was a bit of black box on controlling this but it just worked for my setup(was also aggravated at Insteon when they announced the new app wouldn't be able to configure the Sonos integration). I have the volume buttons on my keypad and they could adjust up/down with the hub(sometimes a little lag or missed a command, but totally functional). Is there recommended way to set up my volume buttons? I have some ideas about using the programs with Polisy, but my idea seems a little clunky. Is there a recommend way to trigger the "Sonos Favorites"? I have 3 buttons on my KPL for presets. I'm leaning towards a program, because my initial test of configuring this a scan failed(but later looked and the node server was not started, so my test wasn't valid).
  3. I don't see how this could be related to the upstream Internet. Since you can get to the Login page and successfully see the console, but the devices are showing as "check connections" that eliminates the IP network side(horrible DSL or Starlink). Insteon connectivity is a different "network". Since you checked the PLM and it is recognized that should not be the problem unless you have a PLM problem at the same time as the change to Starlink(I think this coincidence would be pretty unlikely). Maybe someone with more experience on the ISY/Insteon side can chime in, but when I saw you didn't have a reply yet, I wanted to eliminate the change to Starlink. Will be watching this thread as I'm interested what the issue could be.
  4. I don't know when this happened with mine, but can confirm this was the same thing happened with my hub. I'm pretty sure it was out of warranty, but it was pretty painless.
  5. One with a PLM had about 7 minutes left on Ebay when I saw this thread. Reserve was not met. The item is relisted. I will PM you the link.
  6. So many good points in your post, but this is a key take away for me. It will be interesting to see what products Insteon brings back and how open they are with 3rd parties like UD. The territorial stuff happens with companies, but after being a Polisy user for about 6-8 weeks, I wish I would have done it sooner. I think the simpler interface like a single purpose app and hub appeal to the market that wants the easy factor. Using Polisy seems more to the Prosumer clients that want more from their system. My opinion is there is more risk to alienate 3rd parties vs working with them. It will be interesting to see what happens as I'm totally speculating but hoping for the best. Keeping an open mind, but Polisy will help me be future proof while continuing to use my existing Insteon devices.
  7. Totally agree with you! Im in a similar situation, but with a single home with Insteon. My failure rate is low as well, but I read early on about putting in a whole home surge protector.
  8. Gotcha. No problem. Here to learn and appreciate the insights.
  9. Hey RPerrault. I’m not following your comment to my quote above. I totally understand that with Z-Wave. I tried adding my Polisy as a secondary controller to my Qolsys alarm panel and learned that the hard way. I like the ease of use of the Qolsys but the interoperability and not being able to shift to be a second controller opened my eyes. I just wanted to add some “trigger” type Z-Wave devices like remotelinc in the Insteon world and Qolsys doesn’t recognize them and can’t use them with the Polisy being the secondary controller. That’s when I figured out there wasn’t broadcast type traffic and the Polisy couldn’t see what the Zwave network was doing in real time since it wasn’t the primary. I can query the Z-Wave device and send commands but not see changes in real time. Doing a periodic query was where I settled on to bring my lock status and thermostat information into Polisy. I may be misunderstanding something but have moved on from trying to tightly integrate with the Qolsys.
  10. I appreciate hearing the terminology so I can understand it bit better, but this reminds of how spoiled I was with my Insteon setup. I didnt really know much about how it work, it just worked well for me. Sure some lights may not have been 100% perfect 100% of the time, but it was not a problem or even something I would think about. I didn't know what the pop corn effect was until Insteon went offline and started reading when I was looking at options. Now I dont want it especially with multiple lamps in the same rooms.
  11. 100% Agree. See a lot of technology that is that way...frustrating. I did see a response in Reddit, that Home Seer can do Z-Wave without the popcorn effect, but its dependent on the controllers and the devices. Thats my biggest issue with Z-Wave now is it should work, but interoperability is always questionable. Lots of folks are optimistic about Matter because of the big names involved, but I will wait and see. Sony was a big name when BetaMax was competing for that space. My point is the bigger names probably fail at way more things than we remember or think about and having optimism because big names are involved doesn't get my attention like it did when Insteon was partnering with the Microsoft Stores ?
  12. Anybody finding out what is going on with Insteon? Personally I wish I hadn't waited so long to go to ISY(running Polisy) with Home Assistant, but his is an interesting development. I see a lot of people on Reddit verifying connectivity, but nothing on Insteon website.
  13. Thank you very much!!
  14. I'm working with ST-Sonos as well. Nice idea for the fade out for the music. I have gotten the TTS work. Does anyone know where to load the custom MP3 for the "Clip" audio?
