I had purchased the network module previously. I "upgraded" to the ISY portal, which is supposed to include the network module but on a renewable subscription. BUT...the "network" tab is now gone! Instead I have a tab called "portals" which doesn't have networking. I'm confused...where is the network tab now??? Starman

I don't see how to pass a program variable (light intensity) to a program. Say "Alexa turn on kitchen lights to 50%". The program contains several lights to adjust.
-
Lee I agree. I'm finding the Portal unusable for more than one ISY. Starmanj

See my other thread on this issue. You must purchase a portal subscription for each ISY. Then you must tell each Alexa which ISY you want it to control. It is very difficult to get Alexa to switch ISY's I have found. My other thread is "observations and questions"

Just to update on status-- I have been working with Michel on this issue. We have found that for some reason Alexa only understands certain words for ISY aliases, and even then it is highly unreliable. So...bottom line you can use more than one ISY but changing the ISY is very, very difficult and haphazard. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It would be nice to have a command via the ISY portal to immediately change ISY's (I don't think changing "preferred" ISY is equivalent to that command). Starmanj

I think it is far better to have one amazon account (so you only pay one prime fee) and switch between two ISYs. I have two homes. I think I have clearly demonstrated to Michel this is a bug in the cloud software. Alexa cannot understand multiple aliases, she keeps asking "which ISY" repeatedly. In addition, even though Alexa responds that the local ISY is active, it only talks to my remote home ISY. I'm very likely the first to activate two ISY portals, so I'm pioneering issues/bugs like this...

I have eight echos/dots/taps, but why should that matter? I only have one master account.
-
I believe this is a bug in the cloud system. I purchased two portals but the second ISY cannot be used; it's impossible to switch commands to it. Michel can you confirm this is a known problem?? Thanks
-
Thank you for helping I appreciate it. Yes that's how I've been using izzy on my other ISY and how I know the izzy commands. Alexa understands the izzy commands as I showed above, it sees my first ISY, it simply doesn't see a second one. I may be the only one with two ISYs using the portal?
-
That's what I thought; no need for that convention then. You do need two portals per Steve; I bought two. 5.0.3. It is impossible to switch ISY's at this point. There is no mechanism to switch ISYs in the portal, and Alexa just keeps asking "which izzy" over and over.

Questions: 1) On setup Wiki, it says to conform to list of "spoken utterances". Where in the ISY admin program do you use this naming convention? Do we rename the device name to this convention? Also, the format is inconsistent. Device category is sometimes a device, but usually a location. Example: Attic and Chandelier. One is a location, the other a device. And Post device is seem to be devices, such as flood or fan. I'm confused... 2) I have two ISYs. I'm trying to get Alexa to change ISYs but it only recognizes my first preferred ISY, not the second Alias. Has this feature been tested? Or is there a long delay before Alexa will recognize the newly registered ISY? Starmanj

No you don't. When you select "your smart home skills" and select UDI, you get a broken link to the ISY portal. That's why you need to do the IZZY step on a regular computer.
-
I figured it out. You only see the link that directs you to the ISY portal login screen from a regular PC web screen. There is none for ipad or iphone browser interface. This was sort of referenced in the Wiki but unclear. This should be fixed to avoid user frustration...
-
I keep linking ISY skill via the Alexa app. It always connects me to my Amazon account. I am using my phone app. The instruction video says this is a problem, it should be logging me into the ISY portal, NOT the amazon website. To avoid it use the phone or tablet. But...I am using my iphone! I say, "Alexa ask Izzy (something)"... "This skill is not linked to UDI profile" So...How do you link the ISY skill correctly so I can access Izzy?? Starman

Thanks Barry- I made some changes and echo now finds the wired RPI2. I am now using jar .10 version, added the debug command you specified, sudo apt-get upgrade; I have no idea which of these things fixed it, but now Echo finds the RPI2! Argh, I hate it when things start to work and I have no idea why... Starmanj

Barry- My log file is below, I think it looks normal, not sure why Echo doesn't see it. Do you mean I need to get a wifi adapter for the Pi? My Pi is wired now, which I would think is a superior solution...
-
Yep that's what I have in my rc.local file. IP address is returned correctly. I have connected the Echo to two different wifi access points, one of them on the primary router, so I'm stumped why the echo can't see it...

I need help getting my Raspberry Pi working with Barry's program and the Hue emulator. I have installed the echo bridge java program ha-bridge-0.4.9 on the Pi, it runs and .db database is formed. Barry's AWS_Config.exe works on my Windows 10 platform, but only if I give it the exact IP address of the Pi in the AWS_config.ini file (not sure why discovery doesn't work with the Pi, maybe that's a tell tale why Echo doesn't see the Pi) I see all devices programs etc. in AWS_Config correctly, the .db is populated with my devices created by AWS_Config. But the Echo absolutely can't find any of these devices. Is there a Pi setting I'm missing? Anybody have a possible solution? Thanks! Starmanj

Turns out I did have two bad PLMs in a row. My third one works fine (first one was over two years old, second one I returned, third arrived today and works fine). Thanks for the help isolating the issue Steve, Teken and Xathros!
-
Good suggestions FPS, I had in fact done all of that except reboot computer. On Win7. Rebooting now...
-
Should have pointed that out. I did follow the Wiki for replacing the PLM by the letter. And it worked after doing that. It stopped working after I installed Zwave module and upgraded firmware. And I tried swapping ethernet cables as well. Argh...
-
I just had a 2413s v1.5 go bad, so I ordered a v2.0 replacement. That came and worked for a day, its status lights are still good, but then I upgraded ISY with Zwave module and upgraded firmware to .18. Now it does not see the PLM at all, it boots in safe mode. I tried factory reset of PLM many times. I did get it to see PLM after a reboot once but never again. Anything I'm doing wrong? PS when I log into the PLM the dashboard never asks for user/password, but admin console does give the challenge. Don't think that would affect PLM communication though! Starmanj

Thanks- yes, I have been googling those search terms for a few years since I bought my ISY. I knew the old squeezebox could do what I wanted, but alas it's no more. I have converted my Chromecast into an audio player with an HDMI-audio converter, but can't figure out how to command it with an URL address line. My dream is to come home, push an Insteon button and play music. My question is has anybody actually done this in real life with current technology??
-
So...a lot of views but no response. I take it that is a big fat "no" it can't be done. I guess we wait for Apple to follow up on its announcement of taking over the smarthome? Wonder how they will compete with the ISY... How about Chromecast? Can the ISY send commands to that to stream music? Music streaming in the Smarthome is kind of a big thing, very surprised ISY can't do anything there. Bueller?
