    Security System

So if I have EOL resistors on my wiring then I cannot use the ELK system? Thanks for the information pointing me in the right direction to get started. I appreciate your help.

    Security System

Would that require re-wiring and replacing all my door and window contacts or would I be able to use existing wiring and contacts and just replace the "box" where all the wires connect in and the "keypads"? Thanks again.

    Security System

Is there any way to "convert" or "connect" my existing home security system to work with the ISY99. I don't know too much about my system, just that it is 3 years old, has 2 Honeywell basic keypads, zones all hardwired to a metal box, landline connected for monitoring. I've read things about "ELK" being compatible, but is there anyway to integrate that into an existing system. I appreciate any and all suggestions.
  4. Another great suggestion. I will remove lamp from the scene and try your program next. THANKS SO MUCH, I really appreciate the help!!!
  5. THANKS Tim for the quick reply, that worked great!
  6. I have a scene where an icon relay wall switch controls on/off for 2 devices, (1) my office hihats (the load connected to the switch) and (2) a desk lamp (plugged into an appliancelinc). Both devices go on/off together with the one icon switch. What I would like to do, is to be able to tap on the switch one time for the desk lamp to come on, and then tap a second time, if I wish to put on the hihats. (Didn't really want to purchase another keypadlinc just to control these 2 devices separately). Would an ISY program be able to accomplish this task? Or, will the hihats always have to come on because it is the load on the switch? If a program could accomplish this, could someone please provide a sample program? Thanks for all your help.
  7. I do very much appreciate the further explanation. I realize now it was the "on level" that was throwing me off the entire time.
  8. The ISY software version that I have is 3.1.10. My KPL8 button set at 100% worked exactly as you described it would work being set at 0% (how you said the ISY would initially set up the scene), which prompted me to then set it to 0% to see what would happen. Somehow it is working the exact opposite of how you described, which would mean I possible have something wired up backwards? All I know is when it was set to 100%, the KPL8 button required me to press it twice before the door would move (up or down), (just like your description of how it would work at 0%). With it set to 0%, I only have to press the button once to move door (up or down), which is a much preferable operation. Thanks again for your assistance.
  9. OMG!!! Thanks LeeG for bringing up that 100% setting. Just for the hell of it, I set the new KPL8 (formerly the kpl6) TO 0% (yes, ZERO percent) and it WORKS, set my other KPL8 to 0% and it also WORKS perfectly, one button press-door up, next button press-door down! Thanks to ALL for all the suggestions!
  10. That makes perfect sense, BUT the scene where kpl8 button is controller and relay is responder, is set to 100%. This is what I have observed from within the ADMIN CONSOLE (if this matters). SCENE where kpl8 button is controller and relay is responder (set at 100%, momentary C, toggle mode set normal, and starting in the "off" state with door down). 1) When the "Relay scene icon" is highlighted---clicking OFF OPENS door---clicking ON CLOSES door---clicking OFF again OPENS door---clicking ON again CLOSES door. 2) When the "Relay device" is highlighted from within the scene---clicking OFF does nothing---clicking ON opens door---clicking OFF again still does nothing---clicking ON closes door. Thank you for all the suggestions on the ISY "buzzing", it may have been the PLM as they are next to each other. That issue was resolved when I did a second factory reset on the kpl module (I must have done it wrong the first time).
  11. Thank you for the quick reply. In identical situations: both LED's off both doors down kpl 6: one press will OPEN door and put led ON. (and led stays ON) kpl 6: second press will CLOSE door and put led OFF. (and led stays OFF) (magnetic sensor will keep led ON if door is OPEN and OFF when CLOSED) kpl 8: one press will NOT open door and put led ON. (and led stays ON) kpl 8: second press will OPEN door and put led OFF. (BUT led comes right back ON as the sensor detects door open.) I've done the above numerous times during a two week time period, even going as far as rechecking and marking every wire connection on garage door openers, sensors, i/olincs, etc on both installations and checking every setting I could think of in the ISY scenes. It drove me crazy that I couldn't get both KPL's to work exactly the same. Then, like I said, today, I converted that KPL6 (mentioned above) to a KPL8 with a conversion kit from Smarthome and that's when I realized that the newly converted kpl no longer works with the one press method as mentioned above (kpl6). It is now working identical to my other KPL8 which requires the two presses to open or close door. I totally understand that the KPL6 and 8 should work exactly the same, but for some reason they did not. I can't run the diagnostic tool as you suggest, as I would have to convert the kpl8 back to a 6. I most appreciate the help.
  12. The ISY component that I referred to is the actual blue ISY99i device box. I did a factory reset on the KPL before converting it from a 6 to an 8, so I think that should have wiped out any previous programming as far as the toggle modes are concerned. I actually have two separate garage doors, both doors and openers identically the same, each controlled with it's own separate i/o linc, two separate identical door relays, both installed and wired exactly the same, both set up with the exact same scenes, both set to momentary C, both set to toggle on/off, BUT one was controlled with a KPL 8 and the other with a KPL 6 (until today when I converted the KPL 6 to a KPL 8 ). It always drove me nuts as I could never figure out why the KPL 6 allowed me to "push the button one time" to trigger the door to open/close as compared to the KPL 8 that required me to "push the button twice" to trigger the door open/close. BUT, now that I've converted the KPL 6 to an 8, it works like my other KPL 8 having to "push the button twice"??? So I guess my questions is, with everything set up exactly the same, why would a KPL 6 control the i/o linc differently than the KPL 8?
  13. I just converted a keypadlinc 6 to a keypadlinc 8. I followed the instructions that came with the KPL conversion kit, then followed instructions on wiki for deleting and relinking the device in the ISY. I have just programmed each new button a-g with 8 scenes. I have two issues if anyone has any suggestions: 1) When button F on the keypadlinc is pressed it is not controlling the scene and it is causing the ISY component to make a buzzing noise for about 10 seconds. I tried removing the button F from that scene and added it to another scene, but ended up with the same results. 2) I had one button assigned on KPL6 to control relay/sensor scenes for garage door. Each time button was pressed, door either opened or closed (light on button would adjust on or off depending on whether the door ended up open or closed). On the new KPL8, the button I assigned to this task is now requiring me to press it twice (instead of once) to either open or close the door. This is not a big deal, but what would cause the KPL6 button to work differently than the KPL8 button for this particular task? Any suggestions on correcting issue #1 above regarding button F would be most appreciated. Thank you.
  14. Thank you again for your assistance.
  15. Thank you! I can't remember now why I set that as an option, but that did the trick. Thanks so much. Would you be so kind to provide a simple "program" to "close" the garage door at sunset (if it is left open)? My objective is to try to use one KPL button to show the status of the door (lit or "on" for door being open/off for closed) and also use that same kpl button to close and open the door if necessary. It seems that two kpl buttons would work better, but I'm trying to use just one. I have two scenes set up, one relay & kpl as controller and the other with sensor & same kpl as responder. Thanks again for any suggestions.
  16. Good morning: I have spent the last two days installing and programming the Insteon Garage Door Kit. My garage door opener is an "Overhead Door" SilentMax 4040 with a standard indoor mounted wall remote, outdoor keypad remote and handheld car remotes. After testing every possible scenario and combination of options, below is how I have it set up that work best for me, until realizing this morning that my outdoor keypad and the remote in the car will only open the garage door 2 inches from ground then stops! I had tested everything with the indoor garage wall mounted remote and knew it did the same thing, BUT, I could hold down the button an extra second and it would actually open the door just fine, (I can live with that). It never occurred to me that the outdoor keypad and car remotes would work differently from the wall remote and never tested them in any of my scenarios. Bottom line is, the outdoor keypad remote and car remote WILL NOT open garage door no matter how long I hold down the button, essentially making it impossible to enter my home from the outside! Has anyone else experienced this issue and how was it corrected? Connections: Black to GND and Red to Sensor connections from magnetic contact to I/O Linc. N/O and Com on I/O Linc connected to garage motor. Options: Momentary C and Relay follows input Scenes: Relay Scene with KPL button as controller and Sensor Scene with KPL button as responder I appreciate all input and suggestions. Thank you.
  17. FYI if it matters to anyone ever having same problems with remotelincs. The remotelinc in question started communicating again with ISY thru access point when I changed to a different brand of batteries in the remotelinc?? Strange, but I put that same brand in a different remotelinc and same thing happened, would work devices just fine on/off, etc thru access points, but would not communicate to ISY thru access points. Just curious, one further question, why wouldn't the remotelincs communicate to ISY placing them directly near the PLM? Isn't the "dual" PLM supposed to act as an access point? Thanks again for all your help.
  18. Started having issues again with ISY communicating with devices, so I purchased a filterlinc and installed on the UPS in question (above posts). I now can communicate with all devices on my network EXCEPT remotelincs. I have the remotelinc near the access point (as I did before when it was working) and have remotelinc activated (blinking). ISY continues to give me "reading failed" when I try to update the remotelinc. Is there anyway to check the PLM to make sure it is working properly and not defective? Or any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
  19. PERFECT. Everything went from frustrating to fun. I will get filterlincs if I have further issues. Thanks again for your help. I'm sure I'll be back here when I'm ready for programming ISY for IR & my Harmony Remotes.
  20. The PLM was originally installed directly into an outlet which shared a UPS (which has a printer/fax machine, internet modem, telephone and wifi equipment). I do have several UPS in another room connected to my home theatre/media closet and I have CFL's in some of my hi-hats throughout house. The home is new and electrical wiring is two years old. I do have one of my access points in a detached garage which is roughly 75 feet of electrical wiring away from the main house panel. I was going to purchase an additional access point for inside the house but thought when I purchased the PLM, it would act as an additional access point, but maybe I am wrong and need additional access points? My three remotes now show up in ISY but now do not control the light switches any longer. I manually re-linked one button on the remote to my office light switch and it works now. How do I use ISY to re-link my remote to it's switches without manually going around the house and re-linking them all? I used the third option when linking the remotes, to keep all existing links. Would I have to set up scenes for each remote button and the switch it controls? Also with a keypadlinc, I have it linked to a kitchen switch, but when I use the switch itself, the keypad link then has to be pushed twice in order for it to control the switch again. is there a way to program a button on keypadlinc to the switch so that it works like a virtual 3-way switch? Sorry for all the questions but, I DO APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP!!
  21. I was able to re-establish communication with lighting devices after reinstalling PLM to a different outlet and reinstalling/linking access points. Once that was achieved, I was able to link all three of my RemoteLincs to the ISY. Thank you once again for your help.
  22. What would you suggest to clear up the issues going on? Restore devices? Restore Isy? I am still receiving the communication errors, check connections. Thanks for your assistance.
  23. I have already tried several times placing remotes right next to access point and used dim/bright buttons to put into linking mode. I saw the access point blinking like it was communicating with the remote. The remotes will not show up in Isy. Now, this morning, most, but not all of my devices I am receiving "communication errors, check connection". Isy will turn a light on with no problem and then when I go to turn it off, I will get a "communication error, check connection". Once the device has the red exclamation point next to it, I can no longer control it at all in Isy (manually turning on/off device is working fine and remotelincs control devices fine). I have included below an event viewer log with device communcations events chosen from the menu. Thank you for your assistance. 25. Can you confirm that this would be an example of a correctly formatted address (which is located in battery compartment of the remotelinks)? 11.C3.F6 If so, I have done this several times each time using a different remote. The remote was in linking mode (flashing) and was communicating with an access point as the access point light was flashing while the remote was in linking mode. Would the process be similar to linking a device, I mean should I see the program scanning 0-100% until it is programmed into the isy system (as I am seeing nothing happening)? Thanks again for your help.
