I added two switchlinc on/off switches right next to each other. It seems that one of them randomly flashes red on either on or off after I add it to my controller. When I disconnect it from the controller, it operates the light just fine and there's no red flashing. Does anyone know what that's about?

Max number of entries and wording commands
Kevin Connolly replied to Kevin Connolly's topic in Amazon Echo
Nice list Stu. On a side note, since I'm now controlling my TV from the Echo, has anyone come up with another term other than "mute" which is a Echo term? I've been toying with the word "audio" -
Max number of entries and wording commands
Kevin Connolly replied to Kevin Connolly's topic in Amazon Echo
That's interesting about the word "the". I had thought, when setting up the Echo that the command structure was literal so I added the word "the" so I and my family didn't feel like Neanderthals when issuing a commands. I'll have to give that a try. I'm sure, if the Echo does ignore the word "the", that it'll improve the performance and accuracy of a match word search by the Echo by not having to go to the second word. -
I'm relatively new to using the Portal and Alexa for voice commands (admittedly still weeding my way through making commands unique). That said, a lot of my spokens start with the word "the" only because it feels more natural when speaking the command. is that ok? or am I stressing Alexa out by doing that? (Also I tried to correct as many nonunique commands as possible, but it's difficult because, since Alexa now has the ability to control my TV via a Global Cache, a lot of commands also start with the word "channel".) I ask, which brings me to a second question, because I now have roughly 45 devices controlled by Alexa and I noticed when the number of devices was low Alexa performed 100% of the time, but now (or at least yesterday) it's seems as if she's getting confused between devices "You have several devices with that name..." or she says "ok" but nothing happens So is there a limiting number of devices that Alexa can control from a performance aspect before she times out on the request ( not sure I asked that correctly)? And lastly, is there a list of keywords to stay away from when creating a spoken? I can say with certainty that using the command "Alexa, turn C B S on." goes to tuneln versus channel 2 on my TV. I haven't really tested trying the TV volume controls, but I'm assuming there might be a conflict if I name that spoken volume up or volume down.

Thanks guys. I'll order a few today.

Does anyone know if the Insteon Dual on/off outlet can be used with LED lighting. I have a few Z-wave outlets because the old Insteon outlets had voltage even when the outlet was off...not good for Christmas lights.

Portal returns error when I try to add a program.
Kevin Connolly replied to sorka's topic in Amazon Echo
I get somewhat the same thing since yesterday evening. The return I get is "Device already has a spoken" and doesn't add the program. I'm thinking, since I'm not the only one this is affecting, that the Connectivity\Amazon Echo\Program section has a problem. -
I'm kind of thinking that maybe there's some "ghost code" on my profile. I wouldn't mind if someone reset or wipedd my profile in order to get rid of it. I didn't have but 25 entries. it wouldn't take me long to reenter them...but right now i'm somewhat stuck.

I used the drop down menus. I don't have any devices or scenes with the same name(s). it seems to be all my programs. it's very weird. it was working and than I just lost it
-
I deleted all my entries in the Portal and started over. i re-entered devices and than scenes. When I got to programs, enter my information and hit save, the return notification is: "Device already has a spoken"...so I can't add any programs. I just spent pretty much all day setting up my Global cache iTach, teaching it codes, putting them into network resources and testing them, and creating programs and testing those. I rechecked operation directly by running in the Admin Console. Everything works great until I get to the Portal. It looks like the Portal crashed on me
-
i had roughly 25 entries in the portal between devices, scenes, and programs. I modified one entry and than I was down to something like 16 entries. When I tried to re-enter one that looked like it was missing it said it was already there when I hit save, but it doesn't show
-
I was working with the Portal adding some things for my Echo. I had about 25 entries and than I didn't. now it's down to 15 entries. When I tried to add back an entry it tells me that I already have it when I hit save. As well, not the full set of 25 are listed after hitting discover in Echo. It not a huge deal but I'd rather not have to delete all and start over

Just added the book mark. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks -
How to use "Dim to X%" with IR commands through programs?
Kevin Connolly replied to Kevin Connolly's topic in Amazon Echo
Thanks Jon. I don't have IR yet either, but my Global Cache wifi2ir should be coming tomorrow and I was just looking for a head start on certain things. I've book marked a few threads in the IR section. I suppose I can write programs for various volume settings although the speech maybe a bit awkward. I'm doing this IR project to keep my mind off the effects of the Lyme disease I have. I can get absorbed for hours doing something on the computer without noticing time go by. Again, thanks for the advice though. -
While paging through skills today I found a skill called Reflect. Reflect integrates a single nest thermostat with Echo. It currently has limited ability (asking the humidity, asking the temperature, and setting the temperature). Just thought I'd share the find.

Amazon Echo - Connected Home Feature!
Kevin Connolly replied to Michel Kohanim's topic in Amazon Echo
I realize this isn't directly related to Echo, but how long did it take you to enter all your commands for a remote into a WF2IR, transfer those commands to network resources, make the applicable programs, and than tag them through the portal so that you could use them with the Echo? -

Thanks. I realize that you have to say Alexa initially but I wasn't sure what happens after that because, for example, if you use a skill like Eliza the channel stays open until you close it...which in the case of the ISY might be helpful -

If I implement an IR solution for my TV and Dish Receiver will: a) Will it work? Say utilizing Global Cache If it will work will I have to say Alexa,... before everything? (that could get annoying) -
Probably a dumb question, but...Has anyone gotten the ISY to work with a Dish Receiver thru IR or otherwise?

Amazon Echo - Connected Home Feature!
Kevin Connolly replied to Michel Kohanim's topic in Amazon Echo
Thank You so much. I somewhat thought so. I just wanted to be 100% sure. This will be really nice if they add Alexa voice remote functionality to their phone/Tablet apps. I'd be able to turn on the light while I'm driving home or do a Simon says to my wife if I get stuck in traffic. -

I just have one question. I went to get the module. As I was at the pay screen I noticed a "shipping" option. I stopped at that screen. So the question is: Is this purely a software module or is it a hardware module? I've already expanded my system for Z-wave so if it's a hardware module through an expansion board than I'm SOL on that front. All the other documentation I've seen in threads would indicate that it's purely a software module. -
I had it up and running a while ago, but what I found while testing is that BT signal strength isn't all that reliable. The correlation between distance and strength isn't exactly linear. Since than I've been watching a product called Xethru and waiting for the price to come down. I also have my name in for the SDK of Navisens, but haven't heard anything as of yet.

Is there a way to add a Zwave device as a controller in a scene or have it just work? I have a Yale Zwave front door lock. I tried putting it in a scene and it: goes in as a responder; and doesn't do anything with either on or off command.

Does anyone know who wrote this app for the Pebble? I got it to work for the most part. I have gotten a "parsing error" for one or two screens that would be nice if I could correct it.
