I am in the process of installing LED strips under each stair tread but it is new construction so that does help. I really like the look of having it under the hand rail. Just make sure to use a channel that as a diffuser in to help.
-
Yeah the 300W is at full brightness for all 4 channels. I dont think that will hardly happen and if it does it would be for a split second. I only chose the Sk6812 strip so that I have options. Currrently I dont have big plans for it but figured just as well install something that can be useful or more fun to play with

Maybe a polyglot would be a possibility. will need to read up on it more. The polisy/nodes/polyglots are all new to me.

The controller I mentioned does most standard anamations/colors. I just need something that can turn on the controller signal. So basically the controller is plugged in and powered but not putting a signal out for color/animation. I was curious if I would be able to create a node that would use the native app for that controller to signal the strips to turn on. I can use the app to do everything, but my wife would much rather push a button and have the white channel come when she needs to. You know... happy wife. Also according to the site I bought my strips they pull 18W per meter (60leds) at full brightness. x 17M just for the stairs gives you 306W @5v =61 Amps at full power. I will be injecting 5V every 2M. So my assumption is that each wire will be pulling a lot fewer amps. And that is at full power all 4 channels going, which will never really happen.

The version I am looking at is actually Wifi not bluetooth, although they do have bluetooth as well. I have read a fair bit of topics, the issue is most of those strips are standard 5050 strips these are individually addressable LED strips but I can keep looking maybe I missed something.

@larryllix shoot ok I did not think of the delay to reconnect etc. Is there a way to incorporate the SP108E LED controller with a polisy node?

Goodmorning! OK not sure were to start. All questions relate to using the SK6812 LED strips: https://www.btf-lighting.com/collections/pixels-led-strip-1/products/1-sk6812-rgbw-4-in-1-pixels-individual-addressable-led-strip-dc5v?variant=25757793452132 Questions #1: I would like to create something similar to the stair lights that I saw here: https://www.instructables.com/id/LED-Stair-Lighting/ This is basically a stand alone system, but I would still like to control on/off with Isy/Insteon. What would the best way be? I would guess a on/off outlet 2663-222, or is there another way you would suggest? From my search I did not see anything on Arduino integration Question #2: I will use the same strips for under cabinet and toe kick lightning. What would you suggest I use for control that would allow On/Off, color changing and integration with ISY/Insteon, I am planning on adding Polisy. Would something like this work? https://www.amazon.com/RGBZONE-DC5-24V-Controller-SK6812-RGBW-Android/dp/B075SXXXFY/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2JJWZM9X2FEPX&dchild=1&keywords=sk6812+controller&qid=1598363631&sprefix=sk6812+con%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-4

OK bringing thread back as I am about to wire this house. Anyone have 4" wafer LED's that work Insteon? I am planning on doing a Lowes/HomeDepot/Menards run and grabbing a bunch to test.

They just responded back: Update for Case 1025647 - "Insteon LED Color Change Kit for Insteon Keypads - 4-Color" Hi Thank you for contacting Smarthome Support. With regards to your email, We are sorry for the delay in response. We are sorry to inform you that Insteon LED Color Change Kit for Insteon Keypads - 4-Color (Item # 2401L) is a discontinued product and and we do manufacture it anymore. Feel Free to write to us for any further assistance. Regards, Martin Brown

I have searched the internet high and low (including this forum) but cannot seem to find any of these for sale? Any one here know of a place? I have contacted Smarthome as well (no reply) Thanks

Great thanks, any of you guys have experience with Halo RL56 or Halo SMD-DM

OK guys bring this thread back, as I am building a house for myself again. And since I still have about $7000.00 worth of insteon products to use form the last project that was incompatible due to the LED's that was used and I missed the return deadline. For the guys that switched to LED cans. Been reading thru the forums to find model #'s etc. but I dont seem to find to much info. Anyone want to throw out some models #'s that work for them? And yes I am fine with them not dimming all the way down. I am looking for both 4" and 6"

Depending on Insteon outlet or switch I would say 5'-20' at most. Walls would be 2x6 construction with blown in cellulose for insulation.

OK people just spend the morning doing some research but would like to confirm something. In the process of designing a house with an attached garage, with an apartment above the garage. The apartment would have its own meter from the transformer and own electrical panel. I will be using Insteon switches etc thru the whole house and apartment. I know I could run each electrical meter on its own Isy but would prefer to keep it as one system. Since range would be close enough I think the RF should be able to get the communication done between the 2 meters (House and apartment)? Or do you guys suggest something else that I can hard wire, since this is still in the planning phase Thanks
-
Yeah I think that should work. I already have 3x water leak multipacks. Just need to pick up a hub
-
Yeah Moen makes the smart one https://meetflo.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjwr8zoBRA0EiwANmvpYHn66NPf_S9xXHvPDaivvXBiSsYYtbnenYAprr11aOuYKqC3BeK0RxoCJkkQAvD_BwE For that cost I would much rather just use my ISY. My only concern is doing only insteon leak detectors/hub would be range. With nothing else being Insteon for increasing signal strength should I be concerned? (3300 sqft a floor x2) This house is occupied most weekends during the summer and will shut water off when gone for the winter. Its just more for when we are gone during the week. And no the ice machines need to have ice when we show up. We cannot wait a day for ice. The standard RO system is too small for a commercial machine.
-
@TomL I havent used the Insteon hub before actually, that might not be a bad idea either! I have a bunch of insteon leak detectors I can use. I like the wireless tags as they can provide me temperature at the house during winters months
-
Sorry yeah I forgot that part. They have a commercial ice machine and 2 fridges with ice machines that need water. I guess I could put that on a separate line and have the main for the rest shut off when we leave during the week, and on during the weekends. The only concern still would be to shut off 2x on demand water heaters.

@apostolakisl Ha yeah I love the ISY/Insteon and use them all the time. And would have loved to use it for this build (My parents vacation home) but the LED cans they installed was not compatible with the dimmer (SO I have $8000 worth of Insteon product sitting in my garage-Should be able to use on another project....I hope) Was hoping to save the ISY for that project but maybe it would be easier to just use the ISY. OR maybe a Rasberry pi and relay block...thoughts? Or this should be simple enough https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Solenoid-BOXMART-Control-Version/dp/B07FZZFBPQ I can setup the tags to notify me of a leak and then use the valve control/app to shut it off. Not automatic but simple enough I think.
-
Paul, thanks yeah that is how I have it setup in the past and was planning on doing it again. But sucks that I have to use an ISY, PLM and outletlinc to just control just a valve. I was hoping there would be easier solution since I just want to control the valve and nothing else in the house.
-
So if you read my previous topic you would know I was planning on doing a new construction all Insteon, but had difficulty with the dimmers and LED's we decided to not install the Insteon system. But I still installed the Smarthome water valve. https://www.smarthome.com/smarthome-select-electronic-water-shutoff-valve-3-4-inch-12v-dc.html I was planning on using wireless sensor tags https://store.wirelesstag.net/products/wireless-water-moisture-sensor-2-0 and an ISY to control the valve if a leak is detected since this is a vacation home. Since I am not installing the ISY on this project, what would you recommend for simple control to shut off the valve if leak is detected. I could still do the ISY, but wanted to check with you first. Thanks!
-
Yeah called Leviton and said that they changed the internals and removed the Insteon dimmer from their list of compatible dimmers in their latest spec sheet. So just decided to scrap the whole smart house idea for my parents. Hopefully, smart-home is good about returns or I might save it for my next house...

-
Good thing I tested the wafers. They do blink for a couple of seconds at full power. Do you guys have any other ideas suggestions for replacement 4" wafers that look similar? If not I will have to scrap the Insteon for this house.
-
OK after a little light reading found this in the spec sheets. So it looks good to go for the wafer (WF4) series, but will probably test first since I cannot seem to find any info for the 65BE compatibility. https://a89b8e4143ca50438f09-7c1706ba3fabeeda794725d88e4f5e57.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com/spec_sheets/files/000/063/720/original/lithonia-wf4led30kmvoltmw-specs-and-dimmer.pdf?1522946569
