First off. This isn’t a frequent issue. Safe Mode means the ISY couldn’t find a PLM. The opening suggestions are make certain to power the PLM up first. Plug it is and wait 30 seconds before plugging in the ISY. Third which ISY product are you using 994, Polisy or eisy? fourth, did you try a support ticket with UDI?
-
@dbwarner5 as pointed out the ISY error log should yield some clues... Mine happen tho because my cable connection sucks... but the comcraptic cable company doesn't fix anything that's working-- which it is working 99.9% of the time.

@Dean the problem is battery powered z-wave radios go to sleep to preserve battery. In order to receive (things such as parameter changes) they must first be manually woken up. as @dbuss points out the key word is TO... let me change the bold face... If the device was line powered, the z-wave radio could listen continuously, unfortunately however I'm still certain that the smoke alarm manufacturer would not allow an external system to sound the horn. Why? there's all sorts of rules and insurance limitations around "Life Safety Devices" performing as expected. If the device is relying on a z-wave network to provide interconnection, it might not work as expected during an actual emergency because the z-wave controller might have lost power first, or some other device is flooding the network with traffic or noise and the z-wave message can't get through. The smoke alarm manufacturer can't guarantee the z-wave network will work correctly, therefor they can't rely on it. It's not, because battery powered z-wave radio's are simply not awake to receive.

I read the PDF manual for the unit and realized it's a battery device. Battery devices don't listen, they only speak. Therefor you won't be able to command the smoke detector to do anything. https://www.firstalert.com/us/en/products/alarms/combo-smoke-carbon-monoxide-alarms/zcombo-wireless-smoke-carbon-monoxide-alarm-works-with-zwave-ring-zcombo/#resources

but to resell for $290 UD will likely need to wait for their container shipment to arrive from china, without windows installed.

Volume control with network resources and other controls
MrBill replied to landolfi's topic in IoX Support
if the value is available from the node server there is no need to use API to set the variable, the variable can be set directly. Actually, you actually don't even need the variable anymore. -
I'll tag @bpwwer because he's likely the only one that can help. There's also another thread on this topic where the process is explained.

they can. I have two insteon networks in my house, one is just a test network, but they co-exist fine. Not sure what the problem at your place is, but they should coexist.

If you have z-wave run a z-wave backup first. Admin Console > Z-wave > Backup Then Admin Console > File > Backup ISY (this step will save the file to your computer, the saved backup file will include the z-wave backup if you made one above.) If your MicroSD dies.... Insert a new one (32gb or less, look for the A1 rating). After booting you must install the apprioriate firmware file first (help > manually upgrade) then after the ISY reboots at then end of that, Restore your backup file. There is no supported method of making card images to backup or using other software. I've seen other people say they've had success doing that, but note the only SUPPORTED method outlined above. I'd follow it in case you ever nned UD support to help... they don't help with image copy methods.

@Michel Kohanim isn't posting as often anymore, Perhaps you should email sales@universal-devices and ask.

Before you do that, you might check with UD support to see waiting will solve your issue.

PG3(x) Newbie - Why should I be interested in PG3(x)
MrBill replied to j.rieff's topic in Polyglot v3 (PG3x)
Here's a couple real world examples: The water hoses in our pool area are actually a sprinkler zone that needs to be turned on to use the hose. I have Insteon hidden open and close sensors hidden in two dry places (they aren't being used on doors, just as a push button activator). Press the button and the ISY turns on the single Rachio zone for hoses for 30 minutes. Another one (but this one uses Home Assistant instead of ISY).... During the hours of 5am to 9am, when both phones have been disconnected from the charger, the bedroom blinds open. That's stated simply, but it doesn't matter which one of use gets up first, if the other phone is still plugged in the blind won't open. (only reason it's HA instead was the blinds are zigbee) -
Volume control with network resources and other controls
MrBill replied to landolfi's topic in IoX Support
if you haven't found it: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY_Developers:API:REST_Interface -
just make a text backup of your 994 programs... Right Click "My Programs" (or whatever the root program folder name is) and selected Copy Folder to Clipboard. Open any very basic editor that won't try to format the text, windows Notepad is a great choice, (but not the 3rd party Notepad+), click into the notepad window and paste your clipboard (ctrl-V) into notepad, then File > Save As.

Volume control with network resources and other controls
MrBill replied to landolfi's topic in IoX Support
Actually there is, the REST API. I used to have a portal monitor that used the API. A network resource called from one program, set a variable via the portal, and a second standard heartbeat type program monitored the variable being set over the portal. IIRC I created for a forum post somewhere. What there is no way indeed to do however in OPs case is capture a value using a network resource. -
I can't say on the rest of it, but at 4.c you're going to need to reboot eisy I believe.

I've never figured out the differences, but I find that occasionally the Launcher needs to be reinstalled, Including re-downloading a fresh start.jnlp The procedure I normally use is: Verify the java installation is current using the "Update Now" button on the "Update" tab of the java control panel. switching back to the "General Tab", pressing "settings" button, then "delete files", checking "Installed Applications and Applets" before OK Then I get rid of any and all files named admin.jnlp and start.jnlp, usually these days there's only one, but formerly I'd have lots of old copies hanging around because I never deleted them. Then i download the fresh copy of start.jnlp https://isy.universal-devices.com/start.jnlp After installing it, I add both -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m per these instructions (note that includes a second parameter which at least for me works better than the single for me, there's a post somewhere on this topic)

Some but not all node servers generate a heartbeat... i use that to determine when it's working, Such as: hb.controller - [ID 0028][Parent 016D] If 'Node Servers / Notification Controller' is switched On Or 'Node Servers / Notification Controller' is switched Off Then Wait 11 minutes Repeat Every 30 minutes Resource 'ISYnotification.NotificationNS.Missed Heartbeat' Else - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action') I need to switch that program to a version that also notifies on restored heartbeat, but I've never gotten around to it. Check the log for DON and DOFF of the Controller node or ask the developer if they included a heartbeat. I'm pretty sure all of @Jimbo.Automates node server include a heartbeat.

Oh, the fact that factory reset clears the link database has never been unclear to me. Factory Reset clearing links in devices applies to ALL devices, PLM, line powered or battery powered.
-
@vbPhil oh sorry, i didn't realize you needed to know how to do that.... same as any other line powered Insteon device--hold the set button during powerup until the beep stops. (Since pulling the set button out on a switch air-gaps or de-powers the device, the instruction is essentially the same across the board).

Alexa no longer turns on zwave fans, "the hub is not responding"
MrBill replied to ctviggen1's topic in Amazon Echo
did you do step 9 of the migration process? Does Alexa control anything else via eisy? -
I think the mistake here is that the First thing you do with a new formatted card is load the appropriate firmware, the second thing that you do is restore backup. The ISY will boot with boot loader firmware when a new blank MicroSD card is installed. The problem is that firmware is both not complete, and it's ancient. Therefor the next thing to do is install full recent firmware, second thing to do is restore your backup. I'm not sure what happens when you perform factory reset on a new card, but components of whatever gets installed are likely ancient.

@rayg to post programs please RIGHT CLICK the program name in the Admin console Programs tree, choose the bottom item-- copy to clipboard. then Paste into a forum message. This is much easier to read and work with than screenshots. Are you saying the button is changed to non-toggle mode? (in non-toggle mode it will only send On or Off, whichever it's programed for, and each time the button is pushed it's repeating the same command. Toggle mode (which is default) alternates on, off, on, off, on, etc...).
-
Factory reset is what I would do.

There is a step in the migration process that migrates the portal including remaining paid subscriptions, and alexa setup, etc see Step 9 here, and here for additional information. I don't know if that's a typo, do you really mean Leviton? If so they have excellent documentation, if you know longer have the documentation that came with the switch you can simply google "Leviton <part number> Manual". Leviton has great Docs.
