That might be in the works for when ISY moves to Polisy which has USB ports. So far Michel has only said they are working on it. In short, it's not a short term solution. The serial version repair thread is long, I wish I knew enough to abridge it down to a single post-- summarizing it however is beyond my skills.

I think whoever you dealt with must be confusing the ISY and the PLM. There web page for that looks like this: As opposed to On Sale! for the ISY: Or maybe the rep you spoke with for some reason thinks the two are connected and their would be no need for the ISY if you couldn't also order a PLM. I'm sure @Michel Kohanim will resolve the issue with the distributor if there is one.

Sure looks orderable via Larry's link....

Yes you do not need IR. The pro/non-pro is version is a soft upgrade. Meaning if you don't have it when you need it you "purchase the pro module" online and poof you get the additional nodes and programs, immediately no waiting. Although the other thing only available on pro is these two buttons: on the admin console ribbon that allow you to delay writes to devices while you're configuring scenes. If your insteon system is very big it save a lot of time during setup. Do you have a polisy?

yes you can have multiple ISY's on the network, but you probably don't need two, and remote swapover would be difficult at best, you probably just need a way to pull the plug to reboot it. I have a cheap KMC plugstrip that used to be connected via my nextdoor neighbors wifi. Its purpose was to reboot the modem, router, and ISY... all separate controls. I've since switched to having a failover WAN on an LTE modem and KASA plugs for the cable modem and the ISY (since I can switch them off/on using the KASA app). I also have a windows computer I can wake up remotely and a couple of methods for remote desktop connections to it (in case one doesn't work). literally my only weak point is router failure.. but it seems to be a very stable workhorse, and as long as i can reach the ISY, even the router can be powercyled.. but only by running an ISY program since when you loose connection from outside the program would have to wait 30 seconds and power the module back up. Unless you have a spare PLM that's going to be the problem right now. They are out of stock at smarthome, amazon and pretty much all distributors. smarthome has placed a hold on production apparently but there is confusion because some smarthome reps say they have been discontinued, there is other information around that say's that's false. ISY is also moving to polisy at some point. I have the alpha version running on one of my polisy's now but it's not ready for prime time and has a ways to go. At least when we get there it's probable that it will support the USB PLM. If I were you, what I'd order is a 4pack of these.

I was hoping you were going to get a ping response from the routers command line. If you had we could have rebooted the isy remotely. The drawback to having your friend pull the plug is at least the programs are running now, assuming rebooting should bring things back to normal, but what if it makes it worse and the programs aren't running after that? tough call to make. so what triggers the camera to send a picture when the light turns on? I'm trying to understand if anything is getting out on the ethernet port of the ISY, or if the lights turning on because the ISY told the PLM to turn the light on, then that's trigger the camera to send the pic? or is the ISY involved in that?

I doubt it's the ER-4... my edgerouter hasn't been rebooted in over a year bill@ubnt:~$ uptime 15:04:50 up 435 days, 5:17, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.01, 0.05 When you say you can't ping the ISY, how or where are you pinging from? If you can log into the edgerouter remotely, what happens if you ping from there? Type 'ping <IP.ADDR.of.ISY>'
-
To add to that: Scene's are stored in devices and the PLM, programs are only in the ISY.
-
See above. Do you have access through a VPN or windows computer at home? It's a gamble having someone pull the plug and restart it if programs are actually running? How do you know the programs are running?
-
you really should be installing 5.3.3, while labeled as a test build, it's been out over 3 months and has zero issues.

admin/admin You can do this yourself, In the admin console revoke the portal registration. (Configuration Tab > Portals) then login to your portal account and click the Red X to the left of the UUID of the ISY you wish to delete from your account. (I assume both steps are needed, but I've never done it, the ISY may disappear from your portal account after the first step.)

Does your ISY have a zwave board? If so, and it's a series 300 board, then the furthest you can upgrade is v5.0.16c If it doesn't have a z-wave board or it has a series 500 z-wave board, you should skip straight to v5.3.3. Coming from 4.9 can require extra effort, generally updates go well, however if your programs make use of "Adjust scene" each of those programs will require manual intervention. Make certain that you have a good backup, and read ALL of the instructions. Also another tip I'd recommend is to right click at the top folder in your programs (usually named "my programs") then right click and choose "copy folder to clipboard" then paste that into any editor such as notepad that won't add margins/page breaks etc. and save that file. You now have a searchable copy of your programs. which will come in handy where something doesn't convert. (most notable this is programs using "adjust scene" but there could be others.)

We keep having this weird conversation, that I think you make more confusing. Last week I pointed out how ridiculous it sounds: The problem is smarthome reps are emailing one thing, and you think another to be true and you post vociferously saying it's not discontinued, and you include a screenshot that says they aren't making PLMs right now. Persoanlly, its only my opinion, but I suspect the 2413s really has been killed.... literally no hardware introduced in the last 10 years uses that style of serial interface. I doubt the 2413u has been killed, and I was certainly relieved to see @Michel Kohanim state that UDI is working on supporting the USB PLM. What would really be nice is if your contact at smarthome would feed you the same information that Customer Support Reps are emailing to customers. Regardless of whose message changes. Smarthome is not consistently messaging and for some reason you think that you're the only one that seems to understand what's really happening. You also throw a fit when someone wants to believe the email that a smarthome rep emailed them. You seem to be the lone wolf tho, nobody else seems to have access (this forum or social media in general) that says things are different than what Smarthome CSR's are saying.
-
correct. portal runs in the cloud on AWS instances leased by UDI.
-
I don't know why but UDI's portal does not use "spoken" field in the Admin console. All spokens must be entered into your my.isy.io portal account. It sure would be nice if it used the Spoken field.
-
You'll have 2 completely separate independent Insteon networks. Also unless you already own PLM2 you're going to have trouble finding one to purchase. Smarthome is out of stock and told someone via email the product is being discontinued. A better question to ask is why are you wanting to do this? What roadblocks are you encountering? UDI did say in the same thread that they are working on supporting USB for PLM on ISY on Polisy (not the 994)
-
There's a bunch of threads, some of which are also outdated because things changed. Do your programs make use of "Adjust Scene"? If so, how extensively? Those statements don't automatically upgrade and require manual intervention. Most of the other one time conversion problems shouldn't effect you, and you said you don't have z-wave-- which can also be a headache when going v4 to v5. In addition to your backup open the programs tab, click on My Programs (or whatever your top root folder is named), then right click and select "Copy Folder to Clipboard", now open Notepad (or any other cheap plain text editor that doesn't want to add pagebreaks, margins etc) and paste the clipboard. Then save. Now you have a text copy of your programs that you can look at. Is your system currently all insteon?

ISY is moving to Polisy. I don't know how soon the 994's will be discontinued or how soon ISY on Polisy will be ready for mass consumption, it's currently in the Alpha testing stage.
-
With No Z-wave board you should go straight to v5.3.3 (assuming you're on v5.x already the update will be quick and easy, if you are still on V4.x you may need to manually fix certain programs or you may not just depends on how your programs where created). I would always backup just before the update.
-
The short answer is ISY to Polisy is not ready yet. Alpha test stage. No documentation available outside of the brief mentions in the forum over the past week. They haven't announced what Z-wave interface will be used yet. The Elk Node Server section of the forum would be a better place for questions about that node server.

Actually in another thread we've recently learned that Alexa knows and sometimes cares if the program finished on time. You can avoid the scenario by having Alexa Run Program A and having nothing else in Program A other than Run Program B (then). Program A runs and tells Alexa it's finished after firing off your longer program that's full of waits.

What method are the notifications? If email and you're using UDI's default mail server you likely need to upgrade your firmware. What version are you using? (Admin Console: Help > About) Without finding and linking other threads, the short story is UDI's mail server got spam attacked, it went offline for a period of time back around the start of this year. Finally came back but only works in later firmware versions now. In addition to the above questions does your ISY have a z-wave board? (the answer depends which firmware we suggest you use).

@pmoeller Did you get it worked out?

Black is hot into the switch, Red is the load or fixture.
