Holy Smokes! Adding a Matter device even a simple Matter WiFi device seems like a real PITA right now. Hopefully UDI will come out with a really good HowTo Wiki page in the near future. UDI, please? This has been eye opening. John

Since I upgraded my eisy to the latest OS and IOX and having a look around UDM, I have to ask a few more questions about Matter on WiFi. I am a bit confused about WiFi Matter vs ZWave Matter, which I 'think' uses the RF ZWave dongle. I was looking through the UDM and found where one can add a Matter device. When trying to enable it to see what might happen next, it pretty much told me that I have to have the ZWave dongle or hardware or something attached. Is this true? Must I have the ZWave dongle to use WiFi Matter? Just some WiFi Matter compatible light bulbs. I have no reason not to by a dongle or two, but when I am slowly learning, I don't want to have hardware that I may not use since I am 99% Insteon... so far. OR, is there a full wiki yet or "how to" somewhere on how to enable WiFi Matter devices and create a node and exactly what is needed? Thanks again for all your help and information. John

WOW! That was just too quick and easy! Everything seems to work, OS updated, and IOX updated as well. One more to go next week. Just reporting... John

Looks like I won't be an early adopter! How long did this upgrade take for those of you that were successful? Thanks. John

SImply, can a switch that is ONLY a controller for a dimmer, control the dimmer function of a responding dimmer? Some research suggests that it will work just fine as a controller for a dimmer and will in fact control dimming and brightening of the dimmer responder. But, I have only found one reference that says it will work fine as a controller for a dimmer, so I thought I had better ask you guys who have done a lot more with the eISY and home automation than I ever had. A bit of background might be in order. I have a responder 'Master', 6 button dimming switchlinc that controls 2 LED lights in a hallway and it dims and brightens the lights just fine. I have a 2477 Dimmer switch as a controller, (and responder to on off) at the other end as years ago when I installed this stuff, I thought i needed to do it that way. The dimmer switch is both a controller and responder to/from the switchlinc keypad dimmer and it works... until a few years ago. I just put up wiht it but now it is driving me nuts. When you brighten or dim the lights using the switch, the LED lamps flicker and do a lot fo weird things at times, even going really bright then dimming. The main controller, the switchlinc that the lights are connected to works without this issue. I happen to have a 2477S that I would like to swap out for the 2477D. 1). Will the 2477S as a controller for the Dimming Switchlinc dim the Switchlinc? 2). Can I physically remove the 2477D, then delete it from my eISY then add/link the 2477S into my eISY then do a Replace With? No functions or links as to controller/responder will be changed and there is no set dimming for the 2477D now as it was just a manual controller. Thank you so much for your help and insight! John

I have been scouring the forums and trying to keep an eye on when the January 2025 OS upgrade along with Matter support and other cool stuff will be available. All I know is January. https://www.universal-devices.com/2025-liftoff/ Has a release date been set? What order of upgrade? OS first then IoX? Does the mobile app in its last update have the graphing ability now? I'm certain full information will be forthcoming but trying to plan on the upgrade and find time to work out any issues that might occur. Thanks for any info. John

@Goose66 This too is what I am hoping for as, for right now, I have no need of zmatter/zigbee stuff and desiring direct wifi to matter. And a dongle, IMHO, just adds another layer of complexity, if it were to be required. I must give kudos to the UDI team for working on all of this so diligently! I think the wait will be worth it! John

Thanks Guy! I am hoping for an accurate answer to my query as well as the unknowns you mentioned. Maybe one of the UDI folks will respond after the Holidays... or sooner! John

With all the Matters, I guess only a couple really, I have two stupid questions which I am just unclear about. UDI is coming out with a pretty major upgrade in early 2025 for our eisys and it includes, "...Link WiFi-based Matter switches/plugins directly." 1). What does this mean, "Link...directly"? 2). Do I need to purchase the ZMatter USB dongle to utilize WiFi/IP based Matter devices? Such as those Matter based WiFi light bulbs and more, that hook up to your WiFI network, not a wireless connection from the dongle. Thanks! John

A user preference would be great! I am always an oddball it seems!

@Javi I stand corrected.. If I go to Home and change accounts there, the results are the same. When I go to notifications and change accounts I can see the notifications! And can delete them! Yea!! Is this now new normal behavior. One must change accounts to delete and see the notifications? I certainly liked being able to see notifications from any account/device no matter what account I'm in as some notifications from the account I am not in or viewing might be critical! Is this a new "feature"? I don't recall this behavior a couple weeks ago. If this is new please then add a View All and Delete All. This would lessen confusion for most users I might assume... Or go back to what it was some time ago to fewer steps and a little less code. I guess I'm the only one finding this annoying and not a fan. Oh well. I do wonder how and why things change and must have been from user feedback? Thanks! John
-
@Javi I have done that a bunch of times too in just general use and in trying to see which device might cause this if that might be the cause. In any event, There is no change in the results. What ever account I am in, it displays the same results and numbers in both accounts. I have gone into app settings and cleared the cache but not data. John

@DennisC No update available on the Play Store. Again, it was recently updated maybe a week ago or less. About 21 apps back and I had 9 today.
-
@DennisC @Javi OH ME!! This is interesting. Each reboot caused three notifications for each eisy. And I received all 3. First is the going off line/reboot, then two for startup, PG3 etc. SO I went from on my tablet 1 notification always flagged to 4 (3+1), with 3 in the notification area. I deleted all notifications. On my phone I had 4 or vice versa... not sure it maters which android, I delted the three and ow I have 6 notifications in the folder with a red 6!!! So, it seems the app is not subtracting the deleted notifications. Surely someone else should be experiencing this if it is a bug. It's the latest version of UDM but just a week ago or so, maybe less. Not sure exactly when it started and not a big deal as things still work but annoying to have it tell you you have notifications when none are shown. Thanks. I'll Do a support ticket.

Seems as tho sometimes a reboot clears all things. Just don't know which device or where, is the fault if that can casue the issue. SO here we go. One at a time. I'll report back.
-
I've done that a lot of times and just a while ago a couple times after resyncing. No change.
-
Thanks @DennisC I have two devices in different parts of the state so I will reboot and see what happens.... Thanks!
-
Thanks for the reply @DennisC What happens if you select the 3 notifications on your tablet? Nothing.... you see what the image shows that I posted which is nothing, actually "no new notifications". Have you synchronized both devices recently? (Didn't even cross my mind), but tried and again, no change. Still no notifications but shows at the bottom I have them. I've tried deleting notifications, but that changes nothing. Nothing to delete but tried it. John

Before I enter a ticket, there might be something I am missing in clearing notifications. I have UDM installed on my Android Tablet and My Samsung Android phone. My phone shows one notification in the bottom center, (screenshot attached), and my tablet shows three notifications in the bottom center but none are evident or showing. How do I clear these ghost notifications or are there notifications for something else, somewhere else? Thanks! John

I am pleased that my question got quite a bit of discussion! Now my hope would be that; INSTEON, if you're listening, PLEASE help the folks at UDI make this and ALL your devices work 100% on our platform of choice, Universal Devices! Thanks

Thank-you everyone for the insight. Thank-you IndyMike for the detailed info on how to query it after an on off which I will play with. And you ask about what things aren't working. First it does do motion sensing! That's it and that's all I can use it for. And it does that well. Temperature is not functional, unless you query it several times throughout the hour and with my eisy or your code. I have never gotten the LED to stop blinking or flash when motion is detected. I think I recall that when I first set it up that might have worked but now no matter what I do, which should be simple, does not work. Again after pressing the set button and sending the setup desired. It is on battery only and says it is powered by USB. I cannot get a battery level unless queried. I tried making a battery node and again, one must query it and generally after pushing the set button. I know you have to do that to write to it, save your wants, wishes and desires. In summary, I was just wanting something from a company that I have bought stuff from for years to cooperate and share their API for this device so that all might work as it should. Kudos to UDI for doing the best they could with nothing in return. Wonder what else Insteon has that might work better or other features if they would just do the right thing. They would probably sell more devices if all things worked as they should. But this I think is one that has been the most secretive! Thanks guys! Rant Off John

With the latest promotion with Insteon, I was wondering if Insteon and UDI have worked out the ongoing issues with the Motion Sensor II. There have been quite a few forum posts on the motion sensor II and suggestions to use a Z wave product instead and issues with the Insteon product. I have a couple of them and they work, but... a lot of the features available in, or actually shown, in the GUI for my eisy, (latest firmware version), simply don't work. Mine are battery operated and show up as not battery operated. And I have always pushed the set button to read and write changes to the motion sensor. LED off never works, still always flashes, and other similar things.. So just wondering if this will ever work fully with UDI stuff. Thanks again for any insight. John

Quick question... When one updates PG3, will this also bring us up to the latest python interface? Or must this reinstall all be performed before we realize the new interface? Thx! John
