Do I need a separate scene for each device?

Here my set up:

I have three SwitchLinc dimmers each controlling a set of lights. I have an Icon switch controlling another and an In-LineLinc controlling a table lamp.

Here's what I want to do:

I want the lamps to come on about 1 hour before sunset and slowly decrease in intensity throughout the night. Currently I have a four scenes set up. The first turns all the lights on - this works. The next three kick in at sunset, 9pm and 10pm. These don't work correctly. Some lamps don't change in intensity, others seem to respond correctly. All my lamps and switches respond appropriately to inputs made in the ISY browser.

Do I need to a separate scene for each device. Currently each scene has about four or five devices in it.

Is there any documentation that addresses this? The supplied and online documentation is pretty basic.

Thanks,

Andy

greensha,

You do not need separate scenes for each device. The way you have it is correct. The main question is does each scene respond correctly to ISY's scene on command (is the on level what you anticipated)?

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks for the quick reply.

No, some devices only seem to respond the first scene, then they don't respond to subsequent level changes included in other scenes. It's entirely possible that I am not scripting the scenes or program commands correctly, but I can't seem to find any documentation to help me.

Hello greensha,

My pleasure and I am sorry for the lack of documentation. I do hope that the following tutorials will help you:

http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... h_tutorial

http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... te_a_Scene

Please let me know if these are not sufficient and then we'll setup a time to go over the problems you are experiencing on the phone.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel: Back me up on this one. I don't think you can send a "dim" or "fade" command to a scene and have multiple lights respond. Can you not just set the scene "on" or "off". I'm guessing thatis what greensha is trying to do here! Again, please interject as I'm not a master by any means...

I'm not sending dim or fade commands. I have the levels set in each scene and then I turn the scenes "on" when I want the level to change. Even so, there are some devices that work fine when sent commands on their own, but when I place them in a scene, even if it's just that one device it doesn't respond. However, now I am getting loads of communication errors... Sometimes it even gives me an error message that it can't communicate with a device, but the command I send still works!?!?! I think I'm am going to switch back to the PLC. It was basic but it pretty much worked as advertised.

greensha: Don't be too quick to switch that far backwards. PLease post indetail what your scene does and what you want to accomplish. Your needs sound very basic and should be easy to remedy.

I have a related question...

If you start at 100% and (prior to sundown) and then 'dim over time' how are you doing this?

In 'chunks' where:

@ sunset the lights in the scene dim to 80% (in a quick jump)

@ 9pm they dim to 70% (in a quick jump)

@ 10pm they dim to 50% (in a quick jump)

This would be the only way I could see it working...

What I'd love to see is a 'super slow dim' or 'super slow bright' where I could have all the lights gradually dim/bright over the entire time span of sundown --> 10PM (so lets say thats 3 hours or so) and lets say you want to go from 100% to 50% (or a total of a 50% drop) then the scene would dim 1% every X minutes (I'm not doing the math) so the dim/bright would be more 'fluid'...

Is that possible?

Kinda like a 'really really long' ramp rate.. (instead of it being max 9 minutes - or whatever).

I guess the really sticky part would be what would/should happen if someone turned on/off (or both) or even just dimmed/brightened one or more lights in the scene? Thinking about it myself, no easy or correct answer exists as far as I can see.
