TimoJones Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Here's the link to their developer tools: http://developer.venstar.com/ It would be great to have native support in iSY for these nice thermostats. Any thoughts? Thanks, Timo
Michel Kohanim Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Hi Timo, O boy ... a UPnP device!!! Would you be kind enough to start a poll. We need user demand to support this device. With kind regards, Michel
jwagner010 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 +1 if the Venstar thermostats are also programmable to automatically send temperature changes to the ISY without having to poll / query the thermostat through the API. While an API is very useful to me to control the thermostat I personally find it pretty limiting if I need to set up a program to query the thermostat every few minutes to test for temperature changes. Not an efficient way of doing things.
Xathros Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 FWIW, after looking at the Venstar data posted above, it looks to me like once we get two way comms in network resources, we will be able to work quite easily with this stat. -Xathros

Hardly seems an efficient way of doing things.
Xathros Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Yes. You would need a repeating program to query the tstat. Once a minute is probably often enough and doesn't seem like it would be a huge load on the ISY to manage that as it looks like a very simple network call. I'm not saying that UDI shouldn't build native support for these - just that we can still take advantage of these stats even without native support unlike many of the other network enabled tstats out there. I'm glad to see that these do not REQUIRE cloud support. -Xathros
Michel Kohanim Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Hi Xathros, You are correct: 1. With GenIII firmware (v5x), you should be able to support this type of devices rather easily 2. I am so very glad their API is not cloud based either. That's something that pretty much stops us from going any further With kind regards, Michel
Xathros Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Depending on their pricing, I may pick up a few of these simply for remote temp and humidity monitoring. -Xathros
ferdies Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Yes! I am interested on this. Just recently upgraded my Venstar 6800 to the latest version - 3.10 with API. Any thoughts alteast set the thermostat to home or away from ISY? Thanks.
Xathros Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Ferdies- Section 3.2 Control (Page 7) of the posted API contains what you would need to manage the stat using the ISY networking module. http://developer.venstar.com/assets/ColorTouchRemoteControlAPIv3rev1.pdf -Xathros
timlacey Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I'm happy to see the wifi REST interface support on the Venstar Colortouch line. . . I use the network module already for my Autelis pool controller. So if I understand correctly, I should be able to fully control/query using the specs posted above. Does anybody have this working already? It's nice to know it's working well before going out and buying one. Or should I wait until their is module to natively support them to make it simpler? Is UDI working on that? Thanks, Tim
Xathros Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Hi Tim- Today, you should be able to control the stat using commands from the network module. With ISY Firmware 5.x (due early this year) you should be able to query the stat. -Xathros
