Scene Not Working

I'm sure I'm missing something here but I'm at my wits end.

I have a KPL that controls a few lights and am trying to add a "Home" button that will turn 3 different lights on. Before ISY, this was working fine but somehow during my setup and playing around with other things it no longer does. I don't think it's a communication issue as the 3 other buttons can still control their respective lights. I've tried to "restore link to Home", scene and button, as well as restoring the devices to make sure the link tables are matching. How is it that I can turn the scene on from the ISY, the links match but the button won't turn on the scene? When I do a scene test it even says it works. I've tried to set the button as toggle, non-toggle on/off and nothing seems to be working. I'm at a loss here.

Any advice or even suggestions on where to look or how to post logs would be great. I'm sure it's an operator issue.

what relationship does the "few lights" and the "3 different lights" have with one another? Are they all the same lights, some of the same lights, or none of the same lights? What buttons on the KPL controls these lights? What devices actually provide power to the lights?

I am not sure what this means. Sorry.

So...you want one of your KPL buttons to be a "home" button and when pressed, 3 different lights turn on and any other KPL buttons which individually control those same lights also come on. Do I have that correct?

To do this, create a scene that includes the home button (as controller) the other KPL buttons, and any devices that actually provide power to the lights. Set the ON levels and ramp rates as you desire for the scene, and any controller in the scene. Is this what you did?

Entry KPL controls 3 separate Switchlincs that control the Kitchen, Stairs and Living room lights. The buttons on the Entry KPL work fine. Just to illustrate that there is no signal sucker or any interference.

Under the Scene, this is an option to rewrite the link for the scene.

That's correct and that's what I have as illustrated by the fact that when I turn on the scene from the ISY everything works fine. When I use the Home button on the KPL that is set as the controller, only the lights on the Entry KLP respond. The on levels are the same as (and taken from) ISY scene. I just link table checked all the responders and the controller and they are the same as the ISY. I restored the devices as well. Still no luck.

If I understand correctly, I have no explanation for this behavior. You have a scene that includes the "home" button as controller, three KPL buttons as responders, and three switchlincs also as responders. You have confirmed that the ON levels are not zero for when the home button is controller. Yet, the reponders don't all come on.

I understand that your comms looks good, and I agree. However, it is worth checking something. When you press the home button (to ON) and some of your reponders fail to respond, have you checked the status in the ISY for those non-responsive devices? Does it show OFF or ON for those devices? Does it match the true status of the devices?

In the ISY, they show the true status. I just disabled all my programs as well (in case they were somehow doing something) but it still doesn't work. I already tried to remake the scene but maybe I'll try it one device at a time to see how it works. The only other thing I was thinking was that this is for a button 7 on and 8 button KPL. It shows as an 8 button in ISY but I wasn't sure if a 6/8 button thing is going on here? If I Restore the device with ISY, is that the same as a factory reset at the device? Should I try that next? Thanks for the help.

  • 2 weeks later...

I never was able to solve this with just the ISY (restore or anything) so I ended up removing the KPL, doing a factory reset at the unit and then relinking to the ISY. Everything seems to be working great now. I wish there was a way to do the factory reset and then restore from the ISY so I didn't have to recreate all the scenes. If there is and I couldn't figure it out, please let me know in case this ever comes up again.

That's what I thought I could do but after I did a factory reset, the ISY couldn't communicate with it. I thought it broke the link between the ISY and the KPL with the factory reset. I couldn't get it to work without removing and adding the KPL back in. I guess I should have tried a little harder. Thanks for the help, I'm still leaning here. I like what I'm seeing so far though.
