EricK Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Hello, I am trying to figure out if and why I need an SD card for the ISY. I do not have the networking module. I have checked the user guide and found this as a reason to replace the SD card: You have purchased the ISY’s Networking Module and need more storage for the internal web server. For standard ISY use, is there any need to use an SD card? Thank you, Eric
Xathros Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Yes. Just don't need a larger one. The ISY firmware and file system is on the SD card. Without that, the ISY does not function at all. -Xathros
EricK Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Ok. I did not realize there was a card installed already. I thought it was just an empty slot to be used for extra memory. I think memory cards rarely go bad, but do people make a back-up of their card just in case. Eric
Xathros Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 You can backup the entire ISY from the file menu in the Admin console. There is a procedure in the Wiki for formatting a fresh SD card and restoring a backup in the event of a failure. -Xathros EDIT: Here is the Wiki article. Note, Since your ISY has a slot for the SD card, you can skip the portion about removing the ISY's cover to access the card inside - otherwise all is applicable. http://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Replacing/Formatting_an_SD_Card
Brian H Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I used that procedure to replace the original small one in my ISY99i. Later firmware supported bigger ones and I chose to change it. Mine was early enough to need case removal.
EricK Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 I have been doing back-ups of the ISY periodically since I am still adding devices and programs. I don't see any need at this point for me to change the SD card out. Thank you, Eric
Exten Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Has anyone ever used Apple's Disk Utility to make a .dmg file from an SD card? And if so...can you apply the .dmg image to a brand new SD card? Kinda sounds like a cool way to back up the whole SD card and have something one can quickly restore to a new SD card.
