sauerjc Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 My ISY-99i keeps losing it's location and time settings even though it's set to update it's time through a NTP time server. My settings get lost on a weekly basis even though the unit is continually plugged in to an AC outlet. Of course this throws off all times since the location and time defaults to the West Coast and I live on the east Coast. This is getting annoying. IS there an internal battery inside that can go bad? My unit is outside of it's warranty period. so if there is a battery, is it user replaceable? If not, what is the cost to have the battery replaced? Thanks in Advance! John

John John, If the time is being lost either the firmware on the ISY is corrupt, bad memory card, bad power supply, or the most likely scenario. Your AC power is being interrupted. Is the ISY on a UPS to ensure consistent and steady AC Power? Even if the there was no Internet connection the ISY keeps a pretty rock solid track of time. Teken . . .
sauerjc Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 thanks for the recommendations. I've plugged it into an UPS to see if that helps. I had two ISY-26s and one ISY-99i units that crapped out so this is my second ISY-99i. Hopefully it's not bad. How long do they normally last. All of my units have been plugged in to good Panamax surge protectors, so I don't understand why they go bad so often. Hopefully the UPS fixes the problem. So there is no internal battery that keeps the settings? thanks again, John

There are not very many threads about hardware failures. Most of them are about the memory card, power supply, and random firmware corruption. The fact you have gone through so many leads me to believe you have a power issue. Please keep in mind a surge protector does not protect an electronic device from sags. A low voltage condition is actually more damaging to electronics as when voltage drops, current rises. When current rises it tends to let the magic smoke out of the box. I would also back up the unit and do a update to the latest 4.1.2. Complete another back up with the latest 4.1.2. Teken . . .
sauerjc Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Thank you for the recommendations, I will ensure that I give them all a try. In general the ISY products are excellent, but it is annoying when they have problems because all of my automated items go haywire, and when they do break they are expensive to replace or upgrade. It would be nice if they were modular so upgrades and repairs weren't so expensive, but I understand that you get what you pay for. Thanks again, John
