pintu1228 Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Hi, everyone..this is my first post. I need some help on how to program my Insteon I/O GarageLinc with the ISY. I have successfully added the garage I/O to the ISY, but am having trouble getting the garage door to open/close. When I send a signal nothing is happening....I tried to follow the wiki page to help setup scene for garage door sensor/relay but with no success. I would really appreciate someones help to get this working. Thank you

oberkc Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 More specifically, have you created any ISY "scenes"? Have you created any manual links? How have you configured the IOLinc. One issue that happens more in recent times is that thenewer garage door openers are sometimes not compatible with the IOLinc. Describe the wall buttons. Is it a simple button, or can it also control the lights and other things?
pintu1228 Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 have attached pictures of where I plugged the garage door kit onto...and also the wall pad of my garage door. The keypad has one primary (open/close button) and also a light on button. I have tried to create scenes but don't know if I did it correctly.
oberkc Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I am hoping you can help us out here a bit. You say you have created some scenes. With what devices? Are there any controllers in the scene? With what device do you wish to control the door? A keypad button? Have you created a scene with the keypad button as controller and relay as responder? How is the IOLinc set up? Is it in momentary mode? Does it respond to OFF commands? ON commands? Either? Do you have a sensor installed with the IOLinc? Is it working? Does the ISY see the state of the sensor? Is it ON when the door is opened or when closed? Have you tried closing the door simply by quickly shorting the to wires connecting it to the IOLinc, just to test if it works. Since your chamberlain button appears to be a simple contact, I remain hopeful that this can be made to work.

I wanted to just test it out with my computer first and then was going to buy iRule and use that app to control it. I wanted to control door with iRule app How is the IOLinc set up? Is it in momentary mode? Does it respond to OFF commands? ON commands? Either? Regarding above question, I don't know which momentary mode to use (currently the relay and sensor is set to momentary A with LED on TX with 4.0 ms hold time) Do you have a sensor installed with the IOLinc? Is it working? Does the ISY see the state of the sensor? Is it ON when the door is opened or when closed? Regarding above question..I do have the sensor installed to the IO Linc. The ISY does see the current state of the sensor but doesn't change when garage door is open/close manually. Have you tried closing the door simply by quickly shorting the to wires connecting it to the IOLinc, just to test if it works. How do I go about doing this to test it? Are you talking about the two wires that are screwed into the IOLinc? Like the picture below.
Xathros Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Hello pintu1228- You should have 2 wires connected to Com & N/O terminals and running to the opener. What happens if you short those together for a second? Does the door move? The wires on Gnd and S should be running to the magnetic door sensor. As for your programs, you only need one program to do the open/close and there should be nothing in the If section. The then should just set the relay on. Your IOLinc momentary delay is longer than necessary, set that to 1 second rather than 4. Post your results. -Xathros
Brian H Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Did you possibly connect the door openers jam sensor to the I/OLincs Ground and Sensor input? The magnetic sensor that is part of the garage door kit. Goes to the Sensor and Ground Terminals. The NC and Common to the door openers open closed button terminals.

I also have ran 2 wires from the N/O and Comm to the garage opener unit. I did try to touch the wires together but nothing happened? Is there something I did wrong? Did I put in the correct positions (other other 2 wires) on the garage opener motor? Thanks

I don't have the garage door model or manual, do you? Are you able to trace the wire from the wall button to the opener? Into which positions do they go? These should be the same as from the IOLinc.
oberkc Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 The ISY does see the current state of the sensor but doesn't change when garage door is open/close manually. And this still concerns me. The sensor LED indicator on the IOLinc should change state when the door is manually opened or closed.

Brian H Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 The Garage Door Sensor is a magnetic switch mounted by you on the door and frame correct? If you are using the Garage Door's Openers Jam Sensor. You have the incorrect one and have to use an independent magnetic sensor. There should be four wires from the I/OLinc to the Garage Door Area. Relay NO and Common for the Push Button Input connection on the opener. The Red and White terminal in your above diagram. The Sensor and Ground to is own separate Magnetic Sensor. Mounted on the Garage Door and Door Frame. If the Sensor LED is not going On and Off when the door moves. It maybe out of adjustment. pintu1228 Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Yea the magnetic part of the kit is mounted to the garage door while the other sensor is put into the wall (just like how the guide says to do it). What do you mean incorrect one? All I have attached to the motor is garage door senors and the keypad. Does it matter which part of the relay NO and Common goes into the red and white? When I open the garage door manually, I see a white light blink on the insteon unit but when I close it, I don't see such a light. What part would I need to adjust? Thanks, hope I can figure this out.
Brian H Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I just wanted to verify the Sensor Input for the I/OLInc may have been connected to the safety sensor input on the opener. The NO and Common are a dry relay contact and should not be polarity sensitive. The opener and its control pad are polarity sensitive. As some controls put electronic components on the contacts. To do things like turn the light openers Light On and Off. The white LED on the side of the I/OLinc flickers when the opener is running? Does the Sensor LED go On and Off when the magnet gets moved from being close to the sensor?

When I open the door manually, the light on the IO/Linc blinks and turns off; this doesn't happen when I close the door. I checked the sensor input, they are connected to where the keypad is connected to on the opener motor.
LeeG Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 The I/O Linc magnetic switch wires (2 wires) are connected to the I/O Linc S (Sensor) and GND. It does not matter which wire is connected to S and GND. The magnetic switch is not connected to the garage door opener. There is a Green LED next to the wire connections on the I/O Linc. This Green LED should be On when the garage door is closed and Off when the garage door is not closed.

LeeG Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Is the Green LED On when the door is closed and the Green LED Off when the door is open? No Scenes are necessary to verify the ISY can move the garage door. Click on the I/O Linc Relay node. Click the On button to move the garage door.

oberkc Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 There are a variety of potential causes for this. Perhaps the ISY is not working (unlikely, in my mind). Perhaps there is communication problems between the ISY and IOLinc (possible, but not yet concerned with this). IOLinc may be wired incorrectly (given the answers so far, I am tending to discount this possibility). Garage door opener does not respond to momentary contact. Right now, I am mostly focused on this problem. You stated that you shorted out the wires connected to the opener and the door did not move. From this I conclude that either the wires are not connected to the proper connections, or that the door opener does not respond to this. Since you believe you have confirmed that the wires are connected properly, I have to conclude that your opener does not work like this. Unfortunately for those of us who use the IOLinc, some of the newer doors appear to require more than a simple momentary contact in order to activate the door. Until you are able to get the door to respond to a momentary short in the two wires, there is little that can be done with insteon and the IOLinc. My focus, were I you, would be to triple check this again. Remove the two wires from the IOLinc that connect to the garage door and, again, quickly short. Again, check for the proper connections. If you are unable to get this to work, there is little else to be done, I am afraid.
LeeG Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks for the Green LED info. The opener looks like a single button which normally works with I/O Linc. Does the manual button still work with the I/O Linc Relay connected in parallel? If the I/O Linc Relay is in Latching mode it would not operate the door and would stop the existing manual button from working.
