jmed999 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I have a few weather related questions with the climate control. BTW, I'm using a PWS although I don't think it matters with regard to the following questions. -When does, "Forecast for next 24 hours" start? Now, Midnight, etc? -What does 24h coverage mean? Mine currently says "Isolated". -Mine says "24h rain = 0.15 inches". Does that mean HAM Weather is predicting 0.15" of rain in the next 24h? -I don't see "%" chance of rain in the next 24h...am I missing something? I'd love to program my irrigation to not run if % rain is above X today as I water between 2AM and 6AM. -Rain today says 6 inches but WU says it has rained 0.38 inches. The 0.38 is correct. Also the pressure say 0 PSI...yikes. Any idea what the problem is? Thanks for any help!
apostolakisl Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 The data is coming from someones weather station. It could be wrong. Like 6 inches of rain. 0 psi means they don't have a barometer or it isn't reporting. Pick another station. I am rather vague on what forecast for tomorrow as compared to forecast for next 24 hours means. They seam like they should be pretty much the same. But oddly they are quite different. Like my 24 hour forecast says high of 95 and the forecast for tomorrow says high of 90. At this time of day, the high for tomorrow and the high for the next 24 hours would be the same.
jmed999 Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Yeah it's coming from my weather station. See original post. My PWS was saying 0.38 inches and my Weather Underground page was saying the same thing. I do have a barometer and it is reporting correctly. I think 24h forecast is from a time ie. midnight to 11:59PM and tomorrow's forecast is the day after. So if my irrigation program says to start at 6AM but the chance of rain is high at 10AM that would report in 24h forecast. If it was going to rain the day after my program was going to run at 6AM then it would show up in "tomorrows forecast". I think it works something like that, I'm just not sure when each (24h, tomorrow) starts. The problem is, I don't see "Chance of rain". That's what I need to delay an irrigation program. ie. if Chance of rain is > 70% then dont irrigate.
wrj0 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 -Rain today says 6 inches but WU says it has rained 0.38 inches. The 0.38 is correct. Also the pressure say 0 PSI...yikes. Any idea what the problem is? My PWS currently shows RainDay=0.4289 in. PWSweather shows it as 0.43. My ISY shows Total Rain Today 5 inches. My PWS currently shows Baro=29.85 Hg. PWSweather shows it as 29.86. My ISY shows Pressure 0 psi. What's up docs?
Michel Kohanim Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Hello jmed999, -When does, "Forecast for next 24 hours" start? Now, Midnight, etc? This is basically forecast for today which is updated every hour. It's usually from 7:00 AM for the day. -What does 24h coverage mean? Mine currently says "Isolated". There are there concepts Coverage ... things such as chance of, isolated, etc. Intensity ... the intensity of the next condition such as heavy Condition ... such as rain, snow, etc. You can see a list for all of these under programs. -Mine says "24h rain = 0.15 inches". Does that mean HAM Weather is predicting 0.15" of rain in the next 24h? Yes. -I don't see "%" chance of rain in the next 24h...am I missing something? I'd love to program my irrigation to not run if % rain is above X today as I water between 2AM and 6AM. The available listings is under Coverage in programs -Rain today says 6 inches but WU says it has rained 0.38 inches. The 0.38 is correct. Also the pressure say 0 PSI...yikes. Any idea what the problem is? Please send your station ID to support@universal-devices.com With kind regards, Michel

wrj0 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Thank you, sir! Station info has been sent as requested.
apostolakisl Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 wrj0, Please send your station ID along with a link to this topic to support@universal-devices.com. With kind regards, Michel I have noticed many stations are reporting 0 for barometer even though I can directly access those stations and see that they are recording barometer. On the flip side, others are showing barometer. It would appear to me that "forecast for next 24 hours" is really a poor label. I think it would be more accurate to say "forecast for today". . . if it is indeed 24 hours starting at the most recent past 7am.
Michel Kohanim Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Hello apostolakisl, Barometer should be fixed by now. Please check again and let me know. The label was a huge task in and of itself. The problem is that the forecast is not really for today. It's for 7am till 7am next day and updated every hour so there's an overlap with forecast for tomorrow at some point after 12:00am today. This is how meteorologists decided what 24 hour forecast should mean. With kind regards, Michel
jmed999 Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 The barometer is working much better! Thanks! Did they figure out the crazy rain values? I know a ticket was submitted to HAM...just curious if they had a fix yet. When you say the forecast for the next 24 hours is "usually from 7:00AM for the day"....does that mean it could be different than 7AM for the day? Thanks for all your help!

I still think the label for "forecast for next 24 hours" is very misleading, or actually just plain wrong. It may be meteorologist secret code talk for 7am to 7am, but ISY users are not members of that club and would have no way of knowing that without putting questions up on this forum over and over. I suggest labeling it in a way that correctly defines what it is (like "24 hour forecast ending next 7am". It says my irrigation requirement is 58 inches. ??? All sites I go to say that same number.
jmed999 Posted June 17, 2014 Author Posted June 17, 2014 It says my irrigation requirement is 58 inches. ??? All sites I go to say that same number. What other "sites" give you your irrigation requirement?
Teken Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 The service must be down or something weird is going on. All of my temperatures are showing up as 0 degree's? Teken . . .

Teken Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Hi Teken, That station is no longer listed (and it's not reporting). Would you please use the Find button to try another? With kind regards, Michel Is this something we should expect to occur from time to time? Where stations where we subscribe just disappear? I will need to do a locate me when I get back home as I am on our Corporate network and it shows me as being in Washington! Teken . . .
Michel Kohanim Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 Hi Teken, If you are using personal stations, it's possible. If not, then no. You do not need to use locate. Just click on the Find button and then type winnipeg. With kind regards, Michel

I have to take pause with some of the other stations listed as either HAM defaults to some random value for some fields. Or, five of these sites have exactly the same errors being displayed. ie. Cloud condition is dead wrong, light, humidity, etc Teken . . .
