I was sad to see the hard factory reset still requires the two man operational method. Energy consumption is indicated as <0.75 watts vs the originals 1.44 watts, which I will confirm via my Dash Box (DB) & Green Eye Monitor (GEM) when this product is released. I was very happy to see the surge rating has been upgraded to 1000 VAC vs the original 150 VAC. The manual indicates its also 120 VAC 50/60 Hz compatible. This new Error Blink diagnostic is something I am hoping will be pushed into all newer devices in the future. Over all I am extremely pleased that Smarthome / Insteon has been able to bring this new device to market with an eye towards energy efficiency and long term reliability from surge / spike conditions. The manual describes a technique for performing a Factory Reset using only the Set button on the chart on page 22, *as well as* an ALTERNATIVE two-person technique described a couple of pages later. In the flow chart does the user press and hold down one of the buttons? This flow chart is just terrible. Or is it tap four times, than hold? Even with filters on the load, they occasionally lock up and need the power killed and reapplied. They replaced supersockets on the same loads that never had those issues (but had durability issues). I realize that these new ones are dualband, but the places I use them are in metal boxes, radio most likely won't be that helpful. It only blinks red and exits immediately from the flow chart from there. IOW: the factory reset leg of the flowchart doesn't seem to exist despite the manual showing the same chart. I will not use the receptacle modules as long as there are plug-in modules available. Imagine the RF standing waves inside a metal box? I am surprised these things don't go up in smoke every few weeks. Nearly all my dual-band devices have been functioning reliably for years in metal boxes. That includes both wall and ceiling boxes. The metal box may reduce RF range to the sides and back, but other than that there is absolutely no harmful effect. I had the same problem with a refurbished one I recently purchased from Smarthome. Mine used the older method. Unplug for ten seconds. Plug in while holding the set button. Will start beeping. Keep holding until beeping stops. I did find the proper manual for the older version with out the flow chart. The unit seems to do the first two legs of the flowchart but not any further (no factory reset leg). It flashes red and flashes green and also does the double flash sequence to indicate the options down each leg of the chart. I have to assume this unit may be the "missing link" between the old style and the new style settability. Mine has a label: 2457D2R R3.4 4413 Firmware as reported in the Administrative Console v.41 Back then there was also a 2457D2X. The X version was single band power line only and was cheaper than the Dual Band version. There is an unofficial chart of Insteon Models on this web site: http://www.madreporite.com/insteon/Insteon_device_list.htm It is from end users reporting things like model, date code, reported firmware, date purchased and known issues found by the user. I also just received the e-mail and look forward to reviewing the user manual. I was extremely happy to read the depth has been reduced from 1.42" to 1.32" it also has the maximum power output for a 15 amp receptacle of 1800 watts. I was also looking to see what happens after a power outage if it goes back to the previous state. I couldn't find that piece of info either. This used to be clearly stated on each device page. I have an OutletLinc that's about 4-5 years old & it goes to the off state. But the OutletLincs from the last few years reverted back to the previous state. I also prefer it that way.
