I just installed mobilinc lite and trying to setup tasker for geofence.  From what I have read is that I need pro in order to get tasker to see mobilinc, is this correct.

Second I cant find a tutorial on how to setup tasker to run mobilinc to turn on house lights, open garage etc. when withing certain radius of "home".

Hi Drew,

Yes, if you'd like to use MobiLinc to easily hook into Tasker via Taskers 3rd Party Plugins without having to understand the ISY API then you'll need MobiLinc Pro.

Also, you can use our MobiLinc Connect cloud service to reach your ISY anywhere you have internet access without having to port forward and manage your ISY's network information. This all works with Tasker as well to give you the same performance and reliability and security in and outside of your home.

Did you see this post from another one of our MobiLinc/Android users?

That's makes sense as to why tasker doesn't see mobilinc in third party apps. I looked at that post but the link doesn't work.

It took me a while, and a bit of trial and error, to be ome comfortable with tasker. Even now, I claim only basic competence. Fortunately, my interests are basic.

I use tasker and mobilinc plug in. I do not use the direct network commands.

I have programmed a couple of things to happen based on location of cell phone relative to house. One can use gps coordinates, connection to certain cellular towers, or (in my case) connection to home wifi as an indication of location.

To accomplish this in tasker, one has to create a profile (based on location) and create a task (to accomplish any actions as profile becomes active/true or inactive/false).

Start with the task you want to happen. Click on the task tab then + to create a new task. Give the task a name of your choice. Press + to add a new action, then choose plugin and mobilincpro. In the configuration field, click the pencil icon, and pick your event type (I generally use scenes or programs). Once chosen, pick the scene/program/device i the third field, and what you want to command the scene/program/device to do in the fourth field. Save the task and back your way out, to the tasker main menu.

For the profile, select the tab and press + to create a new profile. Pick location (if you want to use geographic location as you condition) or pick "state" if you would rather use proximity to a specific wifi network or cell tower as your location trigger. Hopefully you will find this part straightforward.

Once your condition is established, tasker will prompt you to give the profile a name...give it a name. From there, tasker will show a list of available tasks. Hopefully, the one you just created will show up. Pick it. You have now created a profile that, when it becomes "active", will execute the chosen task.

Profiles can also have exit tasks as well if that interests you.

I know it is not as easy as it sounds, but I hope this gives you enough to figure it out.

Have you seen this I put together? Might help. Having Tasker control ISY does not need either PRO or MobiLinc, though PRO will give you stronger security.

Thx, I will keep that in mind if I get mobilinc, which I just might cause i cant figure out tasker by itself.  Hope mobilinc is a little easier.

I followed your tutorial, couldnt find "

Select 'Home-Leave' for the exit task

everything else went along.  but how do I find

"Assuming state variable 16 is your 'home' or 'away' variable,"

when I press play nothing happens, probably because i dont know my state variable

I followed your tutorial, couldnt find "

Select 'Home-Leave' for the exit task

Second box is 'Create the following tasks' - the second of which is creating the 'Home-Leave' task. After you create the task - you have to exit and re-launch Tasker for the list of tasks to populate the selection lists before you can actually select it as the exit task.

And yes - State variable 16 is my 'Home/Away state variable. There are several options for Tasker to trigger these tasks. Wife state, cell tower info etc. It's up to you.  I documented using wifi state for setting the URL because that's an accurate status. Even if home and wifi is not connected you need to use the SSL external URL. I've not found wifi state to be a good indicator of 'at home'.

Regarding Mobilinc connect - it certainly does make remote connectivity easier. It's worth the cost of admission for many just for that. The problem is is requires Internet connectivity so if you are at home and your Internet is down - you will not be able to control your ISY via Mobilinc Connect - and your tasker tasks will fail as a result. You'll need to switch Mobilinc between two profiles 'connect' and 'direct'.  Using Tasker directly this limitation is overcome. As noted though - there is a (much?) steeper learning curve.

I'll see if I can get some screenshots to the wiki to help!

Michael.
