I'm having trouble using the admin console on Windows 10

Chrome reports they do not allow java use anymore

The new browser on Windows 10 (Windows Edge) does not allow access period.

How do I gain access to the control panel on this machine?

I tried Edge for a few days and then turn it off and went back to IE 11 that Windows 10 comes with. I have had no admin console problems. In fact the Admin Console takes longer to and does not time out as frequently as Win 7 java did.

Go into your Control Panel and change your default programs to all IE and uncheck all defaults for Edge. It sucks and seems only half developed. Slow as molasses in January when you open PDF files. favourites are two menus deep??? Yuk.

I agree with bipto. A browser is not needed to access the Admin Console, only the HTTP interface (which Edge can't handle). Firefox works fine on Win10.

IE is still under the W10 hood, you find it by typing Internet Explorer in the search box next to the windows icon on the lower left.

Its now a "Windows Accessory"! You can pin it to the task bar if you still want it around.

To the point made by others, I download the java app one time from the link given on the version release page, and run it directly,

Funny thing, Java was almost dead and gone a few years ago. They publicly stated they would never produce a 64 bit version and it was slated for the bin. Suddenly they make a big come back and begin promoting it everywhere. There must be big incentives.

I wish google would win that fight, even though I have painfully avoided the Chrome load. It is going to cost me a new laptop. My 2.8 GHz Netbook runs Java so slowly it is painful. My local weather report uses it and it takes over 2 minutes to load and then most time the current weather is blank. I think it just gives up. Admin Console load is about the same speed.

Java apps are active and everywhere in corporate america, especially backend uses like interfaces.  The large body of certified offshore java resources makes it hard to justify rewrites in something else. Java is not going away anytime soon.

I am hanging out for the surface 4 release next month as my new travel tablet that will be able to run the admin console.

64-bit Java has been available for quite some time. At least since Win XP Pro 64x.

I use Windows 10 and haven't had any issues.  There's 2 ways to do it:

1) IE is still on Windows 10.  Just click start and type Internet Explorer, that's easiest way, then access the ISY at http://IP/admin.  IP being your ISYs IP.

2) If you go to the current releases page on here and go to the one that matches the firmware you have, just click the link there to download the admin console.  That installs it as an application on your computer to access it like a Desktop app.

I use both ways depending where I am, but using IE always works.  One tip I find is when you open IE, open a second tab and then launch the ISY.  Reason for that is because if the ISY admin console closes, it closes the IE tab that launched it as well, so if you have just 1 tab open then it closes all of IE forcing you to open it again if you need to log back in (like if you put your laptop to sleep etc).  Opening a new tab will close that one, keeping IE open.

Just another reason to get rid of Java, it's going the way of the dinosaurs!  I've yet to see anything else that uses it.  Even when you install it it's like "Install the Ask toolbar!" "Install Yahoo Search!" it's like downloading some shifty spyware filled program like uTorrent, having all the add ons checked off by default.

My Win 10 came with IE 11.

I just type ISY on the URL box and then click on Install Admin Console, looking for the icon on the desktop to drag it into my HA folder.

All this requires working browsers.  I am a little ashamed of MS for releasing a new browser with half of it missing. Very compact though but very confusing for me and slow to run JavaScript.

I know the Surface Pro 4 is coming out soon.  Do you know when the Surface 4 (non Pro) is coming out???  They are 2 different devices.

Not sure. Costco is cleaning out its 3s, they will send a few non pro 3s to the stores in in the midwest in a month or so with the type cover for $600. I'm contemplating that vs waiting for the non pro 4. I've researched both and the non pro with its atom processor is the right one for my requirements as well.

The beauty of costco is that if I don't like it, I can just take ti back and be done with it, so I might go ahead and try the 3 and see if I like it.
