How do you add an IRLinc?

I have an IRLinc from before it came with the handheld card remote so it doesn't have any programed IR codes yet. I am using a Harmony 1000 remote. Looking at the IRLinc instructions it says to hold down the button then let go so the LED goes out then issue a command and it accepts the IR code then to link it to a device. Since I am using an ISY I don't think I sould be manually linking a device at this point. I would think the procedure would be to add the codes to the IRLinc and then add it to the ISY and then use all the codes that it brings in to link devices but I can't find instructions on just how to just load a bunch of IR codes without then manually linking devices. Also after adding the IRLinc to the ISY is there a way to add addiional codes. I couldn't find much on the ISY wiki on this either. I suspect that the newer IRLincs aready have IR codes programmed in and this isn't a problem. But step by step instructions might help me and those who may have factory reset their IRLinc. Thanks

Hi dss,

The procedure is very simple:

Link Management->Add and IRLinc Button

Follow the instructions on the screen

Michel

Thanks. But after I add the last button I click cancel and get a "request failed". Then when I try to drag the resultant button to a scene I again get a "request failed". Any ideas?

Hello dss,

Do you currently have some number of buttons linked into your ISY? Would you be kind enough to try Tools->Diagnostics->Event Viewer and change the level to 2, retry, and send us the logs (support@universal-devices.com).

Thanks and with kind regards,

Michel

Thanks, I have 8 keypads so about 64 buttons. Plus 3 remotelins and 3 controlincs. I've emailed you the log file. Also once the IRLinc is warking is there a way to change it from toggle mode to non-toggle mode?

Hello dss,

Thanks so very much. Apologies for the confusion; my question was how many of your IR Linc buttons were added before you clicked the Cancel button? I suspect that we have the same issue as we have with EZIO devices: (i2) memory address changes which have made us impotent in find the solution. We are going to have our final release soon with more i2 related bug fixes and, if you don't mind, please wait till our official 2.7 release (before the end of this year).

With kind regards,

Michel

Oh, those buttons. The first time I tried to do IRLinc I installed 9 buttons before clicking cancel and it did a "request failed". Then I did a factory reset on the IRLinc and tried it again with only one button with the same result.

Will the software be able to change the IRLinc button from toggle mode to non-toggle mode? If not please place that on the list for requested features. Or is that something IRLinc just can't do?

Thanks

Hello dss,

I am not aware of that functionality in IRLinc nor do we have the memory map layout for IRLinc. Can this be done manually?

Michel

From looking at the credit card remote that comes with the newer IRLinc the remote has ON and OFF buttons like a Controlinc so it would seem that there is a command that can make one button always off and another always on but I don't see anyting in the instruction manual on how to achieve this with a univeral remote.

Hi dss,

I will have to look into this ... I think this is the function of the remote but it may have something to do with the memory map in IRLinc.

Once we get IRLinc to work, then we can surely address this issue as well.

Michel

This is from the older (and better) manual before their new wiki based manual:

http://www.casamotriz.com/manuales/2411rqs.pdf

Create Links that Always Send On (or Off)

This can be handy if you want to create a button that is “All Off†or “Party-time†(or other situations where you want the button to do the same thing every

time you press it). This is also sometimes referred to as “non-toggle†mode.

1) Press & hold the IRLinc Set button for about 5 seconds, then release

Blue LED will turn Off

2) Point your IR remote at IR Receiver, and press the button to be learned

Blue LED will begin blinking

3) Tap IRLinc’s Set button once (to always send an on), or twice (to always send an off)

Blue LED will continue blinking

4) Go to the INSTEON-compatible product you would like to control, then press & hold its set button for 5 seconds*

Done… blue LED will return to steady on (*see instructions for multi-button devices)

Hi dss,

Thanks so very much! I wished you could also point us to the memory location where this information is stored as that's the only way we can program it.

Thanks again for all the feedback.

Is there a non-toggle mode functionality for the IRLinc yet?

Hi dss,

You can add them just like KPL buttons but the main issue is that they will all be toggled. As of right now, we do not know how we can change that function: it's a memory location which needs to be programmed for each button and we do not have the specs for it.

Smarthome doesn't provide this information to their developers? Seems odd. What if it is done manually using the method outlined in the manual and then added to the ISY? Or if I purchased one with the remote and then added it to the ISY would it retain the toggle functionality? For making a theater scene with my Harmony remote to turn the lights off when the movie starts you need a non-toggle off button.

Hi dss,

I am certain you can do as the manual outlines as long as you consider ISY the responder. So, if you follow the instructions for non-toggle on the CC while linking it to ISY, it should work. There's just no programmatic way (like KPLs) that we can accomplish the same feat.

Please keep me posted.

Michel

Yes, that seems to work. When adding an IRLink button to the ISY I:

1. Did the "Link Management"/"Add button to IRLinc Receiver" command.

2. Clicked the set button on the IRlinc 5 seconds,

3. Issued the IR command from the remote.

4. Clicked the set button once for always on (twice for always off)

5. Then clicked okay in the ISY IRLinc window and it created the always on or off button.
