Bad switchlinc?

Featured Replies

I have a switchlinc that has worked flawlessly for years but now when you turn it on either manually or remotely it ramps up and down and brightness over and over at about a five second cycle rate. I have tried a restore from the ISY but to no avail. Do you think a wire has come loose or is it just time to replace it?

That's weird.. I think I'd try a factory reset then restore and see it anything changes.

Ha, today when I turned it on it that the ramp even faster it would not shut off when I hit the off switch. So I pulled out the airgap and just left it alone to take a look at this weekend. I agree, very strange Maybe it is self adjusting itself in preparation for Halloween.

I will try the factory reset and see if that works

Spooky :)

We have seen failed Switchlincs do this.

If a factory reset and restore don't work. Good chance it has failed. Most likely the power supply area. I believe someone reported changing the filter caps in theirs to fix it.

I agree this issue has been reported in the past by a few customers. OP, for the benefit of others can you please state the hardware information listed on the switch & the ISY firmware information. This will at least allow others to track this issue and be able to determine if their devices are prone to this issue and what to look for.

As an aside the following quote was offered by Smarthome:

Smarthome response: a few years ago Insteon began implementing a more robust internal power supply for many of their products. This change made their devices much less prone to damage during power surges as well as brown-outs. It would be helpful for other review readers if you would provide specifics on the types of load you are using as well as detail on how they fail.
