Hello,

I am having trouble adding a new device.  Its a 2487S.

Below is the log for when I tried as well as a pic of the error.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jacob

There is poor communication with new KPL.  Hops Left=0 on some of the commands.  There should have been an Extended message response with address of link database.  Some commands get no response.  This Extended message is not being received.  One approach is to put new KPL on extension cord and pull into circuit PLM is on.

What type PLM is being used (2412 or 2413) and what is PLM firmware (Tools | Diagnostics | PLM Info/Status)?

What type devices are coupling the 2 120v legs?

Sorry For the Delay.

I am using a 2413S V1.B PLM running firmware version 9B.  Does that sound like the issue.

I was actually able to finally add the KPL.  Seems to have just worked after trying enough times.

Now I am having an issue adding a ToggleLinc 2466S.  Below is the log of my last attempt.  Is it the same issue? Poor Communication?

In regards to your question about what devices are coupling the 120V legs... I have many devices in the house.  Not sure which are on which legs, but I just assumed that if I add enough Insteon devices, the mesh network is supposed to just get even stronger and I shouldn't have any issues.  I'm obviously missing something.  Below is a list/count of all the devices I have in the house.

The SignaLinc - Insteon 2406H Phase Coupler would be the better choice to bridge (couple) legs however the range extender comes in handy to extend RF to wireless devices.  You should also consider possible sources of noise and signal dampening (signal suckers) that also cause PL (powerline) losses.  Electronics can create noise (included are some LED bulbs and many CFL's) and UPS tend to dampen signals so filters upstream of those devices helps.

Thanks.  Is there any type of (not so manual) troubleshooting tool within ISY that I can run with various circuits (like the refrigerator, UPSes, Lighting) turned on and then off?  That way I can isolate the issue and fix it.  I'd rather approach this in an orderly fashion as opposed to just buying hardware and installing and hoping for the best.

Once you bridge the legs you can throw circuits and using event viewer level 3 show hops by operating switches but any UPS should be filtered as well as electronics as computers, receivers etc..

Edit: one filter ahead of UPS will filter everything behind it.

Manual troubleshooting is required. The problem is site specific. Have you ensured that the circuit that powers the PLM is clean?

As LeeG pointed out in post #3 hooking up and linking the Keypadlinc using an extension cord plugged into the same outlet as the PLM is a sure fire way to get it to link.  After that you can carry it around to various outlets with event viewer open to level 3, activate a couple buttons and observe the hops left at various points (3-2 is good and less is poor.)
