Change Amazon Echo "Trigger Phrase"

Featured Replies

I am very excited to see that the ISY has support for the Amazon Echo but after watching the latest video over in the "How To" section I am a bit disappointed to see that I may have to say "Alexa, tell Issy to..." every time that I want to run an scene or command. Can this phrase be changed or simplified? Such as "Alexa, turn off light."

Thanks!

No. That's an Amazon limitation, not an ISY or UDI one. It's the only way Alexa can tell where to send your command since you may have many skills attached to your Amazon account.

The connected home interface, when approved, will allow a simpler interaction as you indicate for lights and scenes, but has a limited vocabulary. So, no programs or non-lighting commands.

Using ISY Portal and the Alexa Skill there's no way around "Alexa, tell Issy to" however, if you use the hue emulator on Rpi you can use the phrase Alexa, turn on...  Instruction for the emulator is found on this thread but you have to dig through it to get updated instructions.

This is exactly home the ISY connected home interface will work, when Amazon approve it. If you want IZZY-less interaction then this is the only way to do it until the native method is approved.

I'm anxious to see how the connected home interface will perform but for now I'm using Trigger :)

I know things will improve because voice control seems so intuitive with HA and so I believe it'll become a major means for control (I'm thinkin' of the Jetson's here :)

Hello all,

We are all anxious. We are going to have a call with Amazon next week as the skill (slots) are not working very well. In short, Echo has a hard time filling in slots and sends an empty slot. That's why you might get repeated "which device" WITHOUT "I cannot find x, which device?".

I shall keep everyone posted.

With kind regards,

Michel
