NEW Amazon Echo Dot and Tap

Featured Replies

Ordered.  "Alexa. Order an Echo Dot."  Email confirmation arrives seconds later.

This Echo is pretty neat device.

Ordered!

This is great news! The Dot is the perfect product for ISY users looking for a less expensive way to add voice control to more rooms. I'd order one right now, but unfortunately I don't have my Echo yet. I ordered one 10 days ago, but they are out of stock until the 12th. Amazon must be selling a crapload of them. :)

Although I already have sufficient coverage with my existing two Echos, I couldn't resist ordering a Dot speculatively given the price premium Echo remotes commanded when they went out of stock. The ease in ordering was downright scary, I might add.

Tim-

Yep, and that's the point, as also evidenced by the dash buttons and tags

Two on order.  No more hollering or using the remote in the master suite and finally voice control for my office!  I agree with the previous posts, the ease of ordering is downright scary!

Ordered my Dot. I was on the verge of ordering a second Echo so this saves me a bit of money. I'll make up for the savings by buying some more Insteon switches. :)

Edit: do you think this announcement means that Amazon has addressed the multiple Echo issues?

The Dot is like a little sister for Alexa.

What would happen if an Echo and a Dot both heard someone asking Alexa to do something?

When  was first setting up multiple Echos there were two within earshot. There was a slight delay between the responses, but there was no conflict.

Interesting that I just got the ol' 404 for the "More Info." URL in Amazon's announcement E-Mail for the Dot on my home computer, and searches on their Website for "Amazon Dot' return no applicable results. Also, if I go to Amazon's page for the Tap device, the Dot is shown at the top of the page as another Alexa-enabled device. That link yields a 404 as well. Works fine on my phone, however. Are they trying to limit access, or am I missing something here?

Yes, they--Amazon--are trying to limit access. Are you a Prime member? Do you have an Echo or Fire TV? Currently, you need to answer yes to both.

Stu, Yes to both. I guess they've forgotten I'm a Prime member who was one of the first to order an Echo and have already successfully ordered a Dot.

You can only order by asking Alexa to order for you.

I ordered two as well for the same purposes - master suite and office. The delivery estimate of May 10th is a bummer. I hope it doesn't take that long.

There was a discussion of mounting an echo to the ceiling. The Dot would be even better for this.

If the current delivery is quoted as May, that must mean they have sold the initial run.

You can order one without having an Echo or FireTV already. In the Amazon iOS app, search for "echo dot". When it appears in the search results, swipe right and "Add to Cart".

My Dot is showing with an April 8 delivery date... I hope it dosnt slip... :)

Thanks bgav! I am out of the country and thought I would miss out! Now I'm IN, thanks to you![emoji106][emoji16]

Dang it!

I tried what you described bgav, but it won't work for me. I'm using the Amazon app and I have tried it on the Prime Now app as well with no luck.

Guess I'll have to wait after all. [emoji58]

Check out this link from Lifehacker...

Tried it with an Android and it worked.  Not sure about iOS though.

It shows that I "pre-ordered" it and it will be "Arriving Jul 20, 2016".  That is not the May date that I've heard.  I know someone who ordered it last night with their Echo and had a delivery date of May 17th.  I guess I'll have to wait and see if my date gets updated or maybe it knew I was ordering on the Android app and gave me a later date.  I'll have to try it with my regular Echo in the morning and see what date it says.

Good Luck.

UPDATE 3/10/16:  Arriving date was updated to "Arriving May 18, 2016"

Hey TheWizard, your idea worked for ! [emoji3]

am a bit disappointed with July 20 delivery tho....[emoji58]

I got in the next day and was offered April 20 delivery.  Hopefully their stock tracker is just pessimistic, because if they are delayed to July on just presale, they will be months delayed on making it available to new customers, which will just slow the demand for new features for us!

I have estimated delivery on march 31st, but I am considering just cancelling the order and just buying a used Echo on craigslist for $25 more. I don't know if there is any advantage to buy the Dot over the regular echo if the full version can be had for around the same price.
