Cannot determine Insteon Engine

I was adding a new switch link dimmer. The system found the new device and when I went to finish the process, I got this message: New Device Error- The Following Devices could not be added: FO.62.13

(2477D) Dual Band Switch Linc Dimmer V.45. cannot determine Insteon engine.

 

Did a factory reset of the switch and got the same result.

 

Defective switch?

Probably bad communication between the PLM and the switch. What version of the ISY firmware and UI are you running?

Do you have an ISY 99i or 994?

 

A lot of the newer devices are not supported by the older version of the ISY and/or the older firmware.

 

If you have a 99i then you'll need to upgrade to a 994.

 

If you already have a 994 then you'll need to update your firmware and user interface to the current firmware release

Suggest running Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer at LEVEL 3.

 

Use New INSTEON Device, enter device Insteon address, Name of your choice, and Auto Discover.

 

That Insteon address FO.xx.xx looks like an invalid Insteon address.  Is that the Insteon address stamped into frame of device?

Trying to add Mini-Remote version 1.8 1647 to my ISY994i Pro Version 4.6.2 and receiving the error "cannot determine insteon engine". Here is the log dump for the process:

I did get it to add once but it kept losing connection to the ISY so I deleted it and now get this error consistently. Have reset the mini but no change.

shpegel, does your firmware match your UI?

 

anw01, line voltage switches don't plug-in, they wire-in (unless you connected the switch using a cut extension cord). What exactly do you have plugged in?

In your log.

I see the ISY994i sending the command to the PLM [insteon-TX-I1].

I do not see the PLM acknowledging the command [insteon-ACK].

It looks like the PLM is not answering the ISY994i.

Is the firmware and UI the same revision as pointed out by Stu?

I have had my hub for several (3+) years.  Hub is isy994i .  Firmware is 4.6.2.  I have about a dozen devices running now.  Never really experienced any issues over the time.  I have connected and disconnected devices over time.

 

Couple months ago we had some kind of power disruption and several of my devices could not connect.  I fooled around with the devices for a while and everything was fine.

 

Several weeks ago we had two power disruptions one just a few minutes after the first.  Once everything came back up there are three devices that will not connect. 

 

During trouble shooting I tried deleting one device; when trying to add back I  get the "cannot determine insteon engine" error which is on the log as an error 3.  Similar error when trying to reset the other two devices. 

 

I have moved the interface to another wall outlet in the same room, still no success.  I did that as I read it was most likely some kind of communication issue.

 

During this time the programs continue to run correctly with no issues.

 

We did add a wireless camera system just before the power failures.  I don't know if there could be a conflict as they are both on the same router.

 

Not sure what to do at this point.  Looking for some pointers.

The first thing to try is a factory reset. You wnn't lose anything because the ISY has a restore option (right click on the device). You'll need to view the on-line Owner's Manual for factory reset instructions for the problematic devices.

Did a factory reset, appeared to have completed successfully.  Restored a backup, that worked. However, I have the same few devices that are not connecting, cannot find Insteon Engine.  Two of the three are on a remote control and works fine.

 

Totally puzzled.

What's the model number of the devices you're having problems with.

various; 2634-sss outdoor module; 2466d; toggle linc dimmer & 2456d3 Lamplinc -

 

Currently have PLM plugged into wall, cable to ISY and ISY cable to router; wondered if it made sense to relocate everything away from router to PC, at least to test; not sure if the system will work that way

If the PLM is connected to the same circuit as the computing equipment.

Their power supplies AC input filters can absorb Insteon power line signals. Some may also be noisy on the power lines.

I have my computing gear behind a FilterLinc and the PLM in the front unfiltered outlet.

Computing equipment in my case is wireless and router; PC in another room

Being in another room does not guarantee that the outlets are not on the same circuit, especially if the rooms are adjacent to each other, most especially if their back-to-back on the same wall. The only way to determine if they're on the same circuit is to turn off the circuit breaker for either one device. If the other device loser power, than they're on the same circuit.
