New to ISY

Must be the 2413S serial version. As the signal cable between the PLM and the ISY994i is serial protocol. The 2413U is a USB type interface.

My Hardware V1.5 Date Code 1122. Lasted about a day after letting it rest with no power.

Dell is showing  3-5 day shipping normally for the 2413S. I suspect they have it shipped from Smarthome.

I bought a 2413S from Amazon and it was the latest hardware. As they where waiting for more stock when I ordered it. Was $66.95 while Smarthome was $79.99

I rebuilt my 2413S V1.5 using the information in this thread.

I know you suggested Smarthome, but they are $25 more.  I assume it would be the latest hardware given they are from a retailer rather than ebay.

Being that the PLM and the ISY are the heart and brains of your system I would still suggest that you buy from Smarthome. When you buy from a 3rd party you really don't know what you're getting until it shows up on your door step. All the Insteon devices, including the PLM are constantly evolving. Unlike the ISY which has the ability to have its firmware updated, the Insteon products don't yet support that option.

There's an old saying: If you think you're getting a free lunch then you just haven't received the bill yet.

My experience is that any device from Amazon is the latest. It seems to have been set from SH.

The only thing to watch with Amazon. Is if it is sold and shipped by Amazon or one of their Amazon Stores and fulfilled by Amazon.

I am not sure if their Amazon Stores always have the latest versions.

OK, I just ordered a bunch of capacitors from Mouser.  I have also ordered the Serial PLC from Dell as I recently purchased a IOLink from Dell which also seemed to ship direct from SmartHome.  Between the two I should have at least one working unit and hopefully will have learned something along the way.  Once getting my system working on the new PLC, my goal will be to switch back to the old PLC after repairing it and keep the latest as a back up or sell it.

My mouser order is for the following

Qty=10 647-USV1C100MFD USV1C100MFD 16volts 10uF

Qty=20 661-EKY50ETD100ME11D EKY-500ETD100ME11D 10uF 50 Volt

Qty=10 647-UTT1E101MPD UTT1E101MPD 25volts 100uF

Qty=10 80-ESX106M400AH4AA ESX106M400AH4AA 400volts 10uF 20%

I'm guessing that PLC is a typo. The PowerLinc Controller hasn't been available for years.

Looking at my board C3, C11, C7, C13 and C8 all look fine and will be replaced, however there looks like some strange damage below the speaker and above the daughter board connector in two spots.  I am wondering if this is something that indicates a problem.

Is theer supposed to be components there taht someone removed after they failed?  Not sure if C32 was designed out or if it is missing and there seems to be something going on there and the larger mess to the left of the LED...

There is no capacitor in C32's position on my hardware 1.5 or my hardware 1.B.

The gunk around the LED is normal for many Insteon products. Seems the assembler with the glue applicator used to hold the LED in place likes to over fill the space.

The white residue near the daughter board connector. Is most likely poorly cleaned PCB after soldering. Has been seen in many different Insteon Modules.

My C3, C11, C7, C13 and C8 didn't show any signs of failures in mine. Though a capacitance meter showed they where not in specification anymore.

C7 and C13 in one of my Version 2 2443 Access Points that uses the same base board with no daughter board and a different firmware. Showed slightly bulge tops or swollen rubber seals on the bottom.

I have a v1.5 PLM and with that unit, the versions of all linked insteon modules was always v.00. Something to be aware of?

How did you link the modules. If you're showing v.00 then the ISY didn't pick up the device's firmware version when you linked it.

Hi Techman,

I link the device using add new Insteon device. My PLM V 1.B adds the device with the device's version number correctly.

The V 1.5 PLM however, does not, using the same linking method. I posted this just in case it showed up with the above

mentioned PLMs.

You can try removing power from both the PLM and the ISY, then first power up the PLM, wait about 15 seconds then power up the ISY.

Delete a device with a v.00 firmware, then re-link it.  There most likely was a communications issue.

Just send me a PM.  I will update this post when I have run out of my excess stock.

I finished replacing all 5 capacitors, cleaned up the board and re-assembled.  My new PLM still has not arrived so I am going to try and play with this repaired unit.

Posted

Smarthome is now showing them in stock. Amazon had some a day ago and expects more by 04/09/16.

So hopefully your new one will arrive shortly.

Well, my repaired PLM seems to be functioning fine now.  I have linked one device (which I was unable to do before) and it is still working this morning.

Posted

Yes, I am glad I made the repair.  My Dell PLM arrived 2413S V2.2 1611.  I will hold onto this for a couple weeks in case my rebuilt unit decides to fail, but I have a feeling it will be fine.  Is there any advantage in the V2.2 device now that I have replaced my capacitors?

Posted

Yes, sorry.  Previously in this thread I was told it might be best to buy from Smarthome or Amazon to get the latest build.  The only reason I mentioned Dell was because that is where I purchased the PLM.  It is a Smarthome labeled Insteon PLM.

Posted

The new one will have the latest firmware in it.

OK so the latest firmware will have improvements that could potentially be better for me.

Posted

Yes the latest firmware should have some improvements in it and maybe correct flaws.

Smarthome does not publicly post firmware change notices and I am not even sure if the Developers are getting the information. Now that the Developers Group was disbanded.
