Garage Door Sensor - ISUE

Hey guys again,

I should have been passed that level already, but since I got my Garage Sensor/Control kit, I've been having issues with it.

Im using the IO Linc with magnetic sensors (I bought the sensors at home depot, they are way smaller than the ones they sell at smarthome.com), the magnetics do sense when the doors are open or closed. The issue is that sometimes, no really often but most of the times when Im not home, I get the notification that the garage door is open and If I check my camera, they are closed (I have 2 doors). Sometimes it happens to one door, sometimes with the other. So I open the door and close it again, then the status updates to closed... And when Im home and I get that notification, my keypad light is ON telling me that the door is open.

Ive tried installing the wireless Open/Close Door sensor and believe it or not, Im also having issue with them not telling me the right status.

So here my thoughts:

Maybe the magnetic sensor is not compatible with my IOLinc (because I bought them at home depot)

Maybe Im having a magnetic interference

Maybe because I have a metal structure that holds the door, that is interfering with my contacts...

Any idea guys? Should I get a new garage kit and replace the one I have to start all over?

Thank you all for all the inputs!

If the sensors are just close enough to activate every time and there is any vibrations or slight movements they may false.

You may want to see if you can find their gap specifications.  They do make security sensors that are rated as Large Gap and have a much wider gap between the magnet and sensor where they work.

Hi

I had a similar approach on the sensor and had similar results with the false triggering, but very infrequently.  After looking at it, I found that the garage door "wandered" right to left during use. At certain points, the wandering to one side was enough to put the sensor at the edge of its reach from the magnet.

I put a shim board on the side that let the garage door wander too far away from the sensor. I put it at an angle so as the door came down, it gently touch the board at the outside, and over a couple of feet nudged the door to the right spot. Here is a pic

Hopefully this will work for you. If you go inside the garage and run a few cycles, you will see it happening and can make some marks for placement

Hi Brian, thanks for the answer. I have the sensors really close to each other, I even made a cut on my door to make everything fit perfectly. Im assuming I can't retrieve this gap notification from the home depot ones...

Hi Paul, thanks for your time in going to your garage to take a picture I understand what you are saying, It makes sense. I will check mine as well, so if this is happening maybe a longer sensor would avoid that...

Yes, possibly. The "wander" on mine was quite a bit. It doesn't affect use of the door, however it was always a head scratcher why it would false trigger sometimes. I did an number of tests from inside and made marks on the header,  and it was apparent that this was the problem. It was an easy fix and its not happened again. At its worse, the sensor was pretty far from the magnet.

Just in case: Make sure you don't have the IOLinc 'sense reverse' option enabled. If you do, when a query runs you'll get an inverse reading, since the reverse only reverses the notification, not the query result.

I actually had to disable my Query All program because it was triggering my garage to open... I don't know why... that must be the reason then...
