Issues with status updates on 2441ZTH Thermostat

I purchased a battery operated 2441ZTH thermostat to monitor the temperature inside the humidor. I have programs setup to turn on the cooler when temps go over 79 and turn it off when temps go under 77. The issue is that the thermostat is not sending its temperature to the ISY when the temperature changes. For example, the ISY thinks the thermostat is at 75 but when the temperature changes to 76, 77, or 78 the temperature doesn't reflect that on the ISY. Sometimes once it gets to over 80 degrees the ISY gets updated with the temperature. 

 

Is this thermostat a total piece of **** or is something wrong with it?

 

Are there any other options to monitor the temperature (Z-wave or Insteon) without using the solution smarthome has with the IOlink?

You probably have poor communications between the thermostat and the ISY. try placing a dual band device such as a range extender near the thermostat.

The wireless thermostat reports changes about every two degrees.

Ditto what Techman reported.

 

Also there are many temperatures sensors

CAO Tags are very accurate but cloud dependant to report.

Autelis with 1 wire sensors for totally LAN

CAI WC8 with 1-wire sensors for totally LAN.

Several Venstar, Honeywell, ecobee3 with NodeLink running on an RPi but the Venstar is the only one not cloud dependant and they all take AC power.

 

I use 2441ZTH stats for probes and one for anti-freeze heater in my utility room.

You could probably put a 1-wire sensor up to a Rpi with a wifi adapter in a nice case for about the same money as the 2441ZTH.

I ended up getting the Aeotec MultiSensor 6. We will see how well that works. If that doesn't work then I'll try the RPi as suggested.

 

I'm on my 3rd Insteon thermostat. First one was DOA. Second one wouldn't go into the setup menu when holding down the program button, so I returned that for my third one.

 

Smarthome support had no idea on the specs for the power supply, so I found on their website the power supply that is 6V, 900mA. Purchased a supply at that rating and the thermostat keeps turning on and off. Ended up using batteries but it doesn't report the status.

 

I have at minimum 10 dual band devices within a 10ft radius of the thermostat.

I ended up getting the Aeotec MultiSensor 6. We will see how well that works. If that doesn't work then I'll try the RPi as suggested.

 

I don't believe Gen5 is fully supported yet but seems like a good choice.

The power supply should be between 5 and 5 1/2 volts. Higher voltages will cause erratic behavior.  Some power supplies are noisy and can interfere with the operation of the stat. If the thermostat is connected to a power supply then try running it on batteries to see if that improves communication, but give it a while to stabilize, it won't report immediately.

Gen5 requires a different Sigma chip, so a dongle replacement.

 

However, most Gen5 devices work just fine - including the Aeon Multisensor..

Thanks, Gen5 looks like a marked improvement.   Z-Wave's growing like a monster :)

Hello, can you help me understand, I have Multisensor 6 installed in the room, so which thermostat I need to chose that can pick up temperature from multisensory 6, as I want put thermostat in boiler room, and all HVAC control will be from IPAD or so. i need find solution for control HVAC with only multisensor in the room. Any ideas will be so much appreciated. Thank you
