smokegrub
Replacing a switch that controls a light. One wire entering and leaving the existing switch. How do I wire the 2477S? Link to comment
paulbates
What colors are the wires, and how old is the house? It sounds like its not wired with a white neutral wire which is require for the 2477S. If that last assertion is true, you'll need an insteon 2 wire on/off, which is the 2466SW., toggle style, not decora. The dimmer version 2wire is decora and 2474DWH. smokegrub
Paul, I have a ToggleLinc 2466SW. We are using a meter to see which side of the switch the power comes in on. Having done that, how do we wire the ToggleLinc? The white wire is line; the black is load. Edited August 2, 2016 by smokegrub Link to comment
rleidy
You won't be able to wire it without a rewire to bring neutral into the box. Link to comment
Brian H
Sounds like you have a switch loop. You may want to look and see if there is a bundle of Neutral white wires in the back of the switch box. The two wire SwitchLinc that will only work with a incandescent or 120 volt halogen bulb is a 2474D. As it steals it power through the load and needs no Neutral to work.. The 2466 ToggleLinc and 2477D SwitchLinc need a Neutral power connection as pointed out. You need to run a Neutral into the switch box or rewire the wires to Line and Neutral to power the ToggleLinc or SwitchLinc . Cap off the load wire and install a micromodule or InlineLinc in the lights and link it to the ToggleLinc or SwitchLinc to control it. Edited August 2, 2016 by Brian H Link to comment
smokegrub
Stuck the switch back in the wall and will order a 2477D. Thanks very much for the feedback. Link to comment
stusviews
Another solution is to install a Micro Module dimmer in the fixture box. That allows you to use nearly any bulb. You'll need to change some connections in the fixture box to provide line and neutral at the switch box. Link to comment
Brian H
The 2477D or 2477S both still will need a Neutral power connection. Are you going to rewire so the switch box has Line and Neutral. Then link it to a InlineLinc or Micro Module in the fixture? Link to comment
