System Busy dialog box runs a loop

Recommended Posts

I have an ISY 994i Series running version 4.5.1 and when I open the Administrative Console I get a System Busy dialog box which continuously loops stopping all other processes and preventing my ability to control any device actions.

Here is a copy of the Event Log:

I presume one of my 19 devices is not working correctly but I cannot tell from the above log which device I should be looking for.

Is there any way to stop or kill the System Busy dialog?

Thanks for any help, I'm a newbie and I am unsure what to do next.

Do you have any X10 devices? Do you have any programs that include X10 commands?

Yes to both. I have a few X10 devices from my previous setup before upgrading to the dual band Insteon devices.

Try removing power from the ISY, wait about 15 seconds then power back up.

Did that stop the loop, if so then take a look at your programs one of which could be causing the loop.

X10 seems to be where the problem is. Disable any Insteon device that has an X10 house/unit code (right click) and also disable any program that involves X10. If you can't do that due to activity, power down or disconnect the PLM and restart the ISY.

Caution: Power down the ISY before reconnecting the PLM. Power up the ISY a few seconds after powering up the PLM.

If you have an active X10 signal repeater for phase coupling. It maybe causing the M Dim signal flood.

Passive couplers should not be an issue.

Any chance you have a X10 remote somewhere and its dim button is stuck?

If you where using a CM15A as your older X10 controller. Is it still powered up?

Any X10 Motion Sensors or X10 Security Sensors still in use?

After rechecking, all my devices and Insteon with a mixture of single and dual band. The older single band are mostly X10 compatible.

The only X10 devices I use are the old Palm Pad HR12A remote controls.

I already tried that multiple times with no effect. I even did a Factory Reset and when I restored from a backup, it still had the constantly running System Busy dialog.

I have a Signaling model 4816B2 which was left over from my old X10 system. I doubt that I need it anymore since I have several Dual Band Insteon devices. I'll pull it and see what happens.

I have multiple Palm Pad (HR12A) remote controls which work with some of my Insteon devices but nothing is on top depressing the dim button.

The older X10 controllers are unplugged and are tossed into a box. Should get rid of all of them.

I'm not using any Motion Sensors or Security Sensors.

I just tried to reload the ISY Admin Console with both the browser version and the JNLP icon and it did not work.

Instead I get the ISY Finder window without a path. Entering the URL via the ADD button brings up an "Error - Not Found" dialog box. And yes, I have checked my router and the IP address appears correctly within the router.

This has happened before and the solution I have found is powering down the ISY and the Modem. After a few minutes,I plug them back in and I can successfully log onto the Admin Console.

I'll try working more on this tomorrow when I am a little fresher.

Years back I would have the X10 RF to powerline converter plug-ins do this every few years. Slowly I used up all my old X10 units with RF capability after each one being tossed.

They seemed to lock into a loop like that, that would lock up my whole HA system.

The 4816B is a passive style coupler. It will couple X10 and Insteon power line commands between the two incoming Lines. It has no electronics in it. So it probably is not generating the X10 string of commands. Some have left them installed for extra coupling.

If it was the 4826B X10 Repeater. It could cause issues and be removed in Insteon setups.

Power cycling to get things going. Sometimes indicates the PLM is going bad.

How old is the 2413S PLM? Anything over two yeas old is suspect.

When power cycling. Power up the PLM first so it is initialized before powering up the ISY994i so it can properly find it.

You may want to try turning breakers off to see if you can find a noise maker.

Thanks larryllix, I had completely forgotten about these X10 converters. After searching my home, I found two which were plugged in. After removing them from the electrical outlet, my HA system came to life and my problem was solved!

In addition, my system is now working much faster which means those X10 converters were slowing the system down. Now there are no X10 devices in my system, only X10 Palm Pad Remotes which I still find useful for controlling individual Insteon devices.

thanks everyone for your input, I really appreciate your help.
