aLf
New install... Old equipment. I have 4 old AL's that I used in the last house. I'm trying to get them to link with ISY through the "start linking" button. None of them will transmit and be seen by ISY??? I don't know (and its not written on them) what the address is, so I can't link via that? Any ideas. Some are very old V1.5, one is 3.1 and one is 4.5... aLf Link to comment
Teken
Press and hold the AL set button to place it in linking mode. Select the two whirling arrows to add the device. ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. lilyoyo1
Plug them in close to the ISY to link. Also make sure the firmware and UI are the same on the ISY prior to trying to link Link to comment
aLf
I've tried several presses of the link set button. I've tried many outlets and there is no link to ISY. Link to comment
aLf
Tried having a load on it, and wala, instant link! Guess it needs to have a purpose first? Link to comment
larryllix
Tried having a load on it, and wala, instant link! Guess it needs to have a purpose first? Maybe the load loads down the powerline transmitter and "settles down" the powerline signal, making it more coherent and less saturated/noisy. Link to comment
Teken
Tried having a load on it, and wala, instant link! Guess it needs to have a purpose first? Yes, those 1.5 firmware AL's are really old and I forgot a load needed to be placed on them to operate correctly. Going off memory some of the hardware I have on hand when you tried to turn the device on-off. If there was no load on the device a red (!) would appear. A lay person would think there was some kind of comm issue but in reality the device just needed an attached load to be present. Very happy this odd behavior was corrected in future iterations of Insteon hardware because that just didn't make sense! I can only imagine the returns and service calls for this product!
