toflaherty Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I just heard of this app today. Looks like it might be worth making the jump from mobilinc pro (android) finally, as nothing has happened with that app in the few years since I purchased it. I recently just did the z-wave add-on to my ISY-994i and have a couple schlage door locks. What I don't like about mobilinc is that if someone were to get my phone and open the app, they could lock/unlock my doors. I realize there is a workaround to enter a password to open the mobilinc app on my phone, but this would be extremely annoying when I just want to check status of something, or turn lights on/off or change the thermostat setting, etc... On to my question - is it possible currently, or would it be possible in the future, to have to enter a password when changing the status of a certain device (such as a z-wave doorlock) within the app? Thanks.

toflaherty Posted September 24, 2016 Author Posted September 24, 2016 You want to password/key code lock individual devices? Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk Yep, is that a reasonable request? Seems like this is something other people would also want, unless I'm missing an alternative solution. If this is a lot of work I'd hate for you to add it if only one person is going to make use of it, so maybe a poll is worthwhile if people would want such a feature? Anyway, thanks for listening and replying.
paulbates Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Would it make sense to have a single password for a 'security group' of devices? That way, a device could have a security group attribute, and just devices in the group would challenge for the one password when they were accessed. That allows the same protection for all things the user deems a security risk.

I've just been surprised on multiple occasions how easy it is for someone to guess the "swipe unlock pattern" on phones. If someone were to get my phone, and open this app, I don't care about what they do with the lights, but I for sure don't want my phone to unlock my doors in the wrong hands.

But in my personal opinion, any control of my HA is as important as the other. I can look into security groups, but I feel that is your going to secure one part , you might as well secure the whole thing. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk I guess, I'd just hate to have to enter a password every time I open the app just to check the status of something. Just thought I'd mention this as it seems like there's a small chance it could actually get implemented into this app, where mobilinc is probably out of the question as android support appears to be dead. Looking where to spend my money next.
G W Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 How can you have a phone and not secure it? Short and to the point. Best regards, Gary Funk
larryllix Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 How can you have a phone and not secure it? Short and to the point. Best regards, Gary Funk Large metal chain to your waist strap so you don't forget it in the restaurant with all your passwords pre-authorised, and remembered, into your bank account and HA. I may not be short (5' 11.5") but to the point.

James Peterson - feel free to ignore this idea as apparently it's stupid to want a combination of security and convenience.

One thing that I overlooked was the "smear" on the touch screen. As tricky as I thought my pattern was, you could look at the phone surface at the right angle and pretty much have it.

I am sure James is taking your request into consideration, but exaggerating your urgency, or even stamping your feet as hard as you can, probably isn't going to make your request any more urgent than all the other numerous requests. Tall and to the point.

Exactly one person has exaggerated something in this thread, and it was you, with the comment "Large metal chain to your waist strap so you don't forget it in the restaurant with all your passwords pre-authorised, and remembered, into your bank account and HA." Maybe you missed where I asked if this was a reasonable request, and also suggested that he NOT implement this feature if lots of other people didn't also want this functionality. There's no reason to be insulting, we all have similar interests here.

If you would care to follow the thread you will notice my response was not to you at all. I am sorry you got this confused. I was not insulting to you, whatsoever, but rather the short guy over there, Gary. Sure, your request was reasonable, but since you are pushing this agenda and trying to make a comeback due to the misperception... - After you swipe ypur password onto your phone maybe you could touch your screen in a few other places to confuse your attackers that stole you phone, hacked your password swipe, and got into your HA system to unlock your doors. - Another thing you could do would be to disconnect your door locks from your insecure HA system, - Maybe put a banking app on your phone to distract the thieves from seeing your HA app, - You could cry that people are not treating you right in further posts, Some possible alternatives for you to chose from. Again, You have been a victim of posting confusion, not reading carefully enough, who my response was to. And I didn't realise this was happening and responded a little snarky to your response. This one is to you trying to help. Sorry for this confusion.
James Peterson Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 OMG people... I blink and its like watching the Debate last night.. I will look into possibilities for this. I can understand the reasoning behind this, but I have plans for other options that will probably provide a solution to this issue as well. Please keep everything in good humor. I am calm, but justice will be swift if it gets out of hand.
