Unable to connect to ISY from MobiLinc

Hi all,

Samsung S5, android fully up to date.

MobiLinc Pro v2.0.7 installed (not MibiLinc Connect)

Using dlinkddns for https

ISY994 with v5.0.4  also have ISY portal for amazon echo. I have specified a different https port other than 443, if it matters.

MobiLinc was working fine maybe a week ago via wifi locally as well as when I was on the road via https. The last couple of days I cannot access ISY thru https only http locally.

I checked settings in ML and all are good. I noticed that only occasionally will the MAC address populate in settings when I press the sync button from settings. But most of the time not. Even when the mac address shows up there is no update of device status or anything that would indicate it was working.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Tim

Sounds like your external IP address changed and another DDNS service has failed the customer.

Do you have other remote access gadgets that still work?

Was your outer upgraded or reset and lost it's port forwarding table?

This happened to me using a  Netgear router.

Hi Larry,

My remote access for IP cameras uses the same DDNS and are still working. Additionally I can remote in from an external computer using the ddns and ISY port and get into the admin console.

I was playing with mobilinc late last night and found that it is connecting but it is really slow to respond. I pushed the buttons on my phone to turn on a light and fan and they did respond about 20 seconds or so later. Same with turning them off.

So it appears it is connecting but just really slow. So slow that the little pop up window asking me to retry the connection keeps popping up. But it was fine a week or two ago.

I know I have had slow periods also. This appeared to go away for some time now though.

This was one of the old complaints and may just be the comm via the comm bridges that occur.

I know the new Agave was much faster in the beginning, but it was pretty bare when starting out without as many factors. I don't know if Agave has slowed down to match recently so I cannot compare.

I guess I am not sure the fix is in the app as much as the comm systems...maybe.

Hi Tim,

A 20 second delay over HTTPS can happen if the ISY was updated with a high-strength SSL cert (2048 bits). The handshake time for the ISY to establish a connection exponentially increases with high bit strength SSL certs. You can test this by installing the default cert of 512 bits to compare speeds.

A better option is to use our MobiLinc Connect service that's fully encrypted at 2048 bits, but does not suffer the handshake connection issue since the ISY maintains an encrypted socket connection to our servers for fast, private, communication to your MobiLinc app. It's free for 30 days, no commitment, no port forward required. Open MobiLinc and go to Settings->Lighting Controller->Host Type and select "MobiLinc Connect". Select "Create a New Account" and follow the directions.

Hi Wes, The ISY is using the default cert set to 512.

Question. I set secure connect in Mobilinc settings instead of auto. If I am at home with wifi on the phone turned on will Mobilinc us the wifi or the phones data connection? The reason I ask is because it is a lot faster so I am assuming it is using wifi while at home.

Hi Tim,

If the phone has a Wi-Fi connection and the Connect Method is set to "Auto" MobiLinc will use UPnP to find your ISY. If it responds then MobiLinc will use HTTP to connect to your ISY. If not, MobiLinc will use the HTTPS path to connect.

If the phone has a Wi-Fi connection and the Connect Method is set to HTTPS/Secure then MobiLinc will still use Wi-Fi, but will use the set HTTPS path to connect to your ISY.

If the phone only has a cell connection, MobiLinc will use the HTTPS/Secure path if the Connect Method is set to Auto or HTTPS/Secure.
