Teken Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 October 04, 2016 will be the official launch of Googles foray into voice activated hardware. I wanted to see how many users here believe this is something they will try? If you have a Amazon Echo, Dot, Tap will you consider changing over if it appears to be a more powerful home automation integrator? Or will you stay with Amazon Echo which has proven to be very capable?

G W Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I have a Securefi router and Echo / Dot / Tap / Roger. What does Google offer I don't have? Short and to the point. Best regards, Gary Funk
Teken Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Speaking aloud (IF) Google were to integrate tightly with their core services like mail that would be something other products don't offer. Never mind two way voice push notifications. ========================= The highest calling in life is to serve ones country faithfully - Teach others what can be. lilyoyo1 Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I'm picking up a couple to start. I like the fact that I can push music to different units from 1 area. The ability to string together things also appeals to me. Depending on how often I use it, I may replace my echos with them over time.

stusviews Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Just curious, what does the router have to do with Google home or echo? Am I missing out on something? None of the device will function without the cloud. A WiFi router (or modem) is required.
G W Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 My misunderstanding. Google is releasing a new router and I was thinking the wrong product. I'm a little stressed. I started unpacking my wife's clothes and I emptied one box and filled one closet. Short and to the point. Best regards, Gary Funk
stusviews Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 You wife has a wardrobe box and closet for each color? I nearly do with more than 100 shirts
G W Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I just ordered 200 more hangers. Short and to the point. Best regards, Gary Funk
larryllix Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 From what I can see The whole Echo software behind the scenes was Google to begin with. I thought I had read that back a year ago but can't find mention of it. I don't believe that amazon, a book vendor, has the computer savvy to accomplish this feat on their with such polish and the whole voice recognition and logic wreaks of google intelligence anyway. It could be that Amazon was given it's first exclusive access to the technology and now that is up for google to compete against them using their own project already developed for amazon. Trouble is so much amazon hardware is out there with their headstart on this technology, locking in a large user base. OTOH: a huge crowd trusts google to excell at whatever they do in this avenue. It is going to get interesting and we will all lok back with the thought... ..."I was one of the pioneers for that toaster"
G W Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Bulk shopping much?!?! LOL . . . No. That's what I brought back from Saigon. Best regards, Gary Funk

stusviews Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I just ordered 200 more hangers. I had to get six of these and a few of these just for jeans
G W Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I had to get six of these and a few of these just for jeans I think I have all of three jeans. Best regards, Gary Funk
Teken Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 The jeans hangers are nice - however I am not a fan of (thin) plastic hangers as it limits the load I can use. I also noted the metal hanger part is one of those pin styles that insert into the plastic frame. They are notorious for breaking loose from the plastic frame . . .

The hanger is solid metal all the way from top to tip. The plastic is a ribbed sleeve, like shrink wrap, that keeps the jeans from rolling off the hanger. Only the shirt hangers are all plastic.

Correct, I should have clarified my post and not linked it to the jeans hanger!

Or, buy companies and then shut them down.

Which if properly linked and harnessed could provide the end user incredible voice capability. In my eyes the first one to offer true two way feedback along with tight integration with just email will have the upper hand. Imagine if their voice hardware could look at your calendar and send you a reminder. Followed with a voice reminder or be able to initiate a voice command and say share / forward this email, calendar, appointment to XX users. As I stated in other *Coffee Threads* the first company to offer proactive and reactive voice announcements and information which can be defined and filtered will be the market leader. As you noted privacy & security with Google is something the end user will need to balance.

They abandon their software products like greader, but I think they'll be in this HA physical product for the long run. Interfaces, and the associated rules for them could change as they sort out their pile of HA products and standards .. Alphabet, Home, Android... Let's see how many integrated products they can sign up like Echo and IFTTT have, and how crazy the integration licencing is so that it might have the potential to be integrated in the ISY via nodeserver. Portal would be TBD as UDI may be under the same NEST licencing restrictions for energy monitoring. Paul
larryllix Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 You don't think the largest and most popular cloud computing vendor in the world has IT savvy? Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk Nope. No more than Walmart.com or any other sales outlet online. These overnight online wonders don't usually have the technology to do voice recognition and petabytes of artificial intelligence database required to do the required answers to questions people put to Alexa. Google does and has been accumulating this "intelligence" for decades. This is not to mention the massive servers and switching intelligence to make this available within a fraction of a second to people almost anywhere in the world. The requirement list just goes on and on and I doubt amazon will ever have that IT capacity. I doubt amazon ever had the Engineering prowess to create this hardware. Google does and they have the cash to do it too. The Echo was handed to them on a silver platter and I believe the real creator, behind the scene will come out in the open soon or maybe just did.

Well actually Amazon had the biggest server farms second to only Microsoft... And you can rest assured Amazon has NOTHING to do worth Google Cheers, Alex
