remotelinc scene

I am attempting to create a scene by liking a couple of ApplianceLinks and a togglelinc wall switch to one of the buttons on my RL.

when i press the RL button i want one ApplianceLinc to turn on / one ApplianceLinc   to turn off / the Togglelinc to turn off...

I am following the instructions for linking the RL button (press for 10 seconds then tap for multi add) I then press the LED button on  AL #1 while it is turned on / then the second AL with it turned off and the both seem to linc correctly so that they function a desired.. BUT when I press the set button on the Togglelinc (which i have set to "off" - the desired state for the sene)  it's load turns on and it links to the RL button so that when I press the RL button, the togglelinc turns on instead of off or remaining off.

what am i missing?

thanks for your expertise

The original RemoteLinc usually needs to be very distant from the PLM in order to successfully add is (or establish communication if it's already added). Try adding (delete it first) or writing updates (e.g., red exclamation mark) from 30 or even 40 feet away from the PLM but within range of a dual-band device.

BTW, this is a common problem and common solution for the 2440 RemoteLinc.

The RemoteLinc2 (now called the Min Remote) is an entirely different device. Its only similarity is that it's a battery powered controller. The Mini Remote is considerable smaller (great for your pocket or on the wall, not so great as a tabletop hand held remote) the has functions similar to, but  not exactly like, a KeypadLinc. For example, the Mini Remote can be toggle or on-only, but you can't make that selection by button as you can with the KeypadLinc, It's all buttons or none.

Too, the original RemoteLinc has an All On/Off function (only for devices that the remote is linked to), the Mini Remote does not have that capability.

But, I've not experienced any difficulty adding it to the ISY.

BTW, once I used the distance method to correct communication difficulties with the 2440 RemoteLinc, it has functioned as it should. No problems creating or modifying scenes nor controlling programs

this did not help - i was thinking that since the Remote lincs only control lights in my optometric examination rooms which do not need to be a part of a program or turned on or off by the isy - could I just remove the RL and all responders from the ISY and then manually link the to the buttons on the RL? I really need to enhance the reliability if things

Thanks

How far were you from the PLM when  you tried restoring/adding/updating? How far were you from a dual-band device? Did you press and hold both BRIGHT and DIM to begin the process?

Yes, you can remove the RemoteLinc from the ISY and create all the links manually. You may run into a difficulty if you have a need to restore or replace any of the devices that you link the RemoteLinc to. OTOH, I manually added a seventh device to the All On/Off function of the RemoteLinc (i.e., not to a button).

one other question - after I remove my devices (appliance linc / togglelinc ) from the ISY, would it be a good to do a factory reset on them so that we are sure things are clean?

Best practice is to always hard reset any device upon receipt or if its acting strange. Ensure you remove the device from the controller first before doing so.

Some devices surprisingly require more than one hard reset to finalize the process so keep this in mind.

 "controller" = ISY right?

Yes, that is correct.

Please also note several of the devices you noted up above are only (Single Band) devices. If after a factory hard reset you still can not add and create scenes via the ISY Series Controllers.

Please ensure the following house cleaning steps have been done:

1. Ensure the RL2 is fully charged regardless if its new.

2. Adding: Under the *Link Management* tab up above select the appropriate RL2 in question. Ensure you follow the pop up messages that follow and confirm the RL2 is indeed in linking mode by the flashing red LED.

3. Place the RL2 next to the 2413S PLM or any dual band device.

4. Sometimes you have to use the other two methods to add the RL2 which is the two whirling blue / yellow arrows vs the *New Insteon* device option.

5. RF Noise: As an aside this isn't very common but if you have baby monitors, older portable house phones which operate on the older 900 Mhz frequency please ensure you unplug them while the above steps are in progress.

6. Lastly, if your ISY Series Controller has lots of network / programs actively running please disable them as this sometimes causes the controller to slow down and time out in the adding process.

I was a good 40' away and 6 ft from Dual band

I did not press bright dim - I just did a "write updates to device" from the admin panel

Battery powered devices need to be in linking for updates to occur. If it's not in linking mode, then nothing will happen at all. Holding both bright and dim until the LED begins blinking place the RemoteLinc into linking mode.

I have the Pro version ISY994i and have automatic writes to battery devices turned off.

You should have gotten a message telling you to hold the Bright and Dim buttons when you tried to do the write updates.

I found a few times where the message is not shown if the Writes to Battery Devices is turned off.

So if you have a Pro version and had Automatic Writes to Battery Devices Off. You may have missed that step.
