Error & Memory Lights Flashing

Featured Replies

The door and memory lights are flashing on my ISY 994i and I can't connect to it via the network. I have replaced the ISY994i but the new unit did the same thing as soon as I plugged it in. I had a problem with the modem provided by my internet provider so we have replaced that, but the lights are still flashing on my ISY. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If the new ISY has the same problem, then the PLM or a cable are suspect. Which PLM? Did you try changing cables or the port on the router? The power sequence is plug in the PLM first, wait a few seconds, then power up the ISY.

I've swapped out the Ethernet cables to to router and the PLM without any change so the only thing left is to PLM itself. It isn't showing an error via the status light but I've reset it and still no change. I guess the next thing is to replace it.

The ISY does not need a PLM to be recognized by your network. Can you find it in your router?

Have you had a chance to read the WIKI information on the Error and Memory LEDs flashing?

Even if the PLM was dead. It should not be flashing the Error and Memory LED's. When my PLM failed. The only thing that happened was the system went into Safe Mode. No network issues happened.

You even tried two ISY994i controllers with the same problem. Pointing to a network issue.

You have something bad in your network.

The two LEDs in the Network Jack of the iSY994i. Are they On and if there is network activity one maybe blinking?

By chance did this happen when you had to change your internet modem and is it also your router?

Both lights are on on the ISY network jack, but they are both solidly lit.

This problem started before I replaced my modem/router. I thought it would resolved when I installed the new modem/router.

When I launch the Ud Admin Panel on my PC it doesn't access the ISY. The word "File" is the only item in the menu at the top of the page. When I open that menu "Logon" is greyed out.

I thought you could access the ISY via direct cable connection through the micro USB port but I tried that and either I don't understand how to do it or it doesn't work with my device.

I have the same problem. Bought another ISY, same problem. Plugged them BOTH in, and the first one fails, and whatever one I plug in second, boots OK. Weird.

Likely a network problem with IP addresses clashing

Need further description of what 'fails' means.

Do both have their own PLM?

@brjohnso,

As larryllix suggested, you have IP Conflict. Other causes:

1. ISY cannot get an IP from your router

2. ISY is not connected to the router

I have the same problem.  I changed over to a mesh network (TP-Link Deco M9Plus).  I can't see the isy when I do a network scan, and the isy finder can't find it.  I have two flashing lights on the isy (ISY994i/IR PRO INSTEON + X10 ), the red and the blue next to it (error and memory).  When I look on the back of the isy at the network connector, both lets are green.  The isy is only six months old, the palm about a year.  No firewall or vpn running.  BetterTouch, etc. are off.  I'm totally stuck.  I suspect it has something to do with the mesh network, but can't figure out what the next step should be.  Any thoughts most appreciated.

@lmhinman,

Definitely related to the router not giving ISY an IP address. Are you certain that ISY is connected to the router either directly or indirectly?

With kind regards,
Michel

Success!  I have the new Deco M9Plus mesh network, which has two ethernet ports.  Presumably one for connecting to the cable modem, the other going out to a switch.  The ISY was plugged into the switch I had connected to the Deco.  I disconnected the switch and plugged the isy directly into the Deco M9.  Voila, it connected, I was able to restore from my backup, etc.  But I had no connected switch.  So I disconnected the isy from the Deco, plugged the isy into the switch, and the problem returned.  I then switched the incoming and outgoing ether cables, and now everything is working like a charm.  Many thanks for steering me in the correct direction and avoiding many dead-ends I might otherwise done down.
