Run without a PLM?

OK, this may be a silly question... Is it possible to use an isy994i without a PLM? My PLM died and I was wondering if I could just use the isy to control non insteon / x10 devices. They've been so flaky in my house anyway. I bought a hook device to control a bunch of cheap wireless switches and their pretty much flawless. Work with Alexa too!

When the PLM died I couldn't "remove" it from the isy as it couldn't see it. I did a factory reset on the isy and while it did reset everything (all programs, devices, etc. are gone) It still wants to see a PLM.

I did see the link on replacing the caps on the PLM and maybe I'll try that but if I don't NEED it to talk to network resources why bother?

Thanks for any guidance in advance

If you have the ZWave hardware module installed and want to control ZWave devices in your setup.

The ZWave version of your present firmware does not go into Safe Mode with no PLM attached.

When in the safe mode you are prevented from doing anything that would effect the setup and most likely why you are getting the errors. Be careful. Bypasing the Safe Mode could let you mess things up worse.

I doubt anything but ZWave features would work.

Do you have a good backup? As a Factory Reset looses everything and you have to start from scratch.

I was prepared to start from scratch as I'm tired of the flaky insteon / x10 situation I have.

So, the ISY can't be used without a PLM or Zwave module? I have no Zwave devices. I'm using the cheap etekcity switches and a hook device to provide IFTTT functionality. I then add the api address for each etekcity device as a network resource in the ISY. It works really well. I can add the network resources even now without the PLM but can't build a program. Would love to forgo the PLM altogether and use the ISY as a network switch controller.

The ZWave version of your firmware will allow the ISY994i to run with no PLM attached. Even with no ZWave hardware board installed.

It just ignores the no PLM attached test findings and going into the Safe Mode for protection.

I can't say if your particular setup would function with the ZWave version of the firmware. Since you have done a complete reset. I guess you could try it.

I downloaded udi_oadr_4.5.4.zip. Latest released version.
In Windows it is reported to be 6.51 MB.
If you are using an operating system that automatically Unzips files that can be a problem.
As the original zip file is needed for installing the firmware.

OK, tried first on Ubuntu and got the file size error. Moved to Win 10 and see the zip is 6.51 MB but it fails with the same error. Getting a little frustrating now... I am not unzipping the file, just pointing the ISY manual upgrade option to it.
