Bad PLM?

My system is suffering major malfunctions.  This morning it was dead - no control.  Rebooted, but it worked sporadically and now getting a lot of communication errors and basically nothing is working.

PLM going bad?  What is the best way to test it?

On the PLM is the LED bright or dim? Do you see network traffic on the PLM's LED when you activate any switches / sensors? If you perform a link table compare what numeric link count is presented?

When performing this test the house must be quiet and no one moving around and complete at least 3~4 link counts to obtain a good average. If you have 50 Insteon devices in the home and the link table count reports back something crazy stupid like 12 that may be an indicator.

If simply unplugging the 2413S PLM restores service its more than likely a failing unit. I would first check to see if yours is still under the two year manufactures warranty. If not you can purchase a new one or try your hand in the PLM repair guide in this forum. You can always try a hell merry and do a PLM restore to see what happens.

But historically this is a band aid which buys you time . . .

All of the above assumes you don't have any other noise induced issues in the home . . .

As far as I know, I've pretty much mitigated any noise issues I had.  But you never know.  It seems like every few months I have a couple of days of havoc in the system then it settles down.  This seems worse.

Unplugging seemed to work yesterday, but not today.

I'll follow the recommendations to test, thanks!

If you do a Show PLM Link Table test in the Tools Diagnostics a few times. If it is almost empty. That would be another sign the PLM has power supply issues.

PLM Info/Status if it shows safe mode also can be an indicator.

Long thread here on how the PLM may fail and how some have fixed theirs with new capacitors.

Your PLM is about 2 years old, about the time they start to fail.  Do a PLM link count when the ISY isn't busy. A unusually low count usually indicates an impending failure.

Its on its way to PLM heaven. You can try restore modem for temporary relief, but the operative word is temporary. Get another one soon.

LED seems pretty bright and flickers slightly when I operate some lights with a mini remote.
