stusviews Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I had several Z-Wave modules disappear a few say ago, two Aeotech Gen 5 Doorbells ans two Mimolite I/O Modules. The latter devices control our garage doors, so I tackled that first. I was unable to exclude or include either of the GDO modules, so I disconnected the wires on one and brought the module closer to the ISY. After a few tries, I was able to include the MimoLite I/O Module, reinstalled it, updated several programs that controlled or were triggered by the device and ran a few tests. Everything appeared OK. I went back to the ISY and noticed that the doorbell modules disappeared. They easily included except that I had to reset the tone we wanted. Next day: The garage door stopped working, the MimoLite controller disappeared again. Apparently, the relay was stuck on as I had to unplug the power supply to allow other GDO controllers to work. Today: I installed an Aeon Siren in the garage to insure that the Z-Wave signal was reaching there (detached garages, aluminum doors). I tested the set-up with the door closed and was able to turn the siren on and/or off from the Admin Console (other end of the house). Once again, I had to bring the module into the house to include it. I installed it, tested it and it worked, but one doorbell partially rang whenever the garage door was opened or closed. That doorbell also disappeared from the Admin Console. I re-Included the doorbell module and was no longer able to control the garage door. The garage door Mimotech Z-Wave module disappeared from the ISY, once again. Somewhat frustrated at this point. Any suggestions?
Michel Kohanim Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Hi stusviews, ISY does not automatically do anything (including removing nodes). Are you certain: 1. You didn't do Z-Wave | Tools | Synchronize? 2. ISY is the primary controller? With kind regards, Michel
stusviews Posted August 9, 2017 Author Posted August 9, 2017 Actually, I tried all the Z-Wave tools, Heal, Repair and Synchronize. Do you mean that I should not have done Synchronize? The ISY is my only Z-Wave controller. Today's update: the Aeon Gen5 Siren (installed in the detached garage) disappeared. Heal brought it back and I can still control it from the Administrative Console. All other Z-Wave devices are OK, 2 Schlage deadbolts, 1 Schlage door lock, 2 Aeon Doorbells, 1 Homeseer HSM200 Motion Sensor and now both Aeon Sirens. Interesting that now all three Z-Wave devices have been affected. First and still, the MimoLite I/O Modules and now the Aeon Gen5 Siren. The only wireless devices in the garages or the area around the garages are dual-band Insteon devices and 2 Uniden 5.8GHz waterproof phones. But the house has the same phones in the bathrooms and more than a dozen Panasonic 5.8GHz phones and scads of Insteon dual-band devices. No Z-Wave device in the house has exhibited this behavior. Well, actually a Z-Wave Gen5 Doorbell briefly got "partially" linked to an I/O Module. "Partially" in this case means that the door bell is set for ding-dong, ding-dong twice, but this partial link sounded only one ding The Fortrezz (MimoLite) I/O modules were installed at the beginning of February and disappeared only a few days ago-both . The nearest Z-Wave module to the garage devices is less than 22' away with most of that space being air. This would seem to be a range issue except for the fact that the Aeon Gen 5 Siren can be reliable controlled for the Admin Console. The siren and both I/O modules are powered from the same Wiremold power strip (not a surge suppressor).
Michel Kohanim Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 Hi stusviews, Let's take a step back: by disappeared do you mean that the node in ISY actually vanished? If so, Heal will not bring it back. And, when it came back, did it have the name you gave it or something generic such as ZWave-0x? With kind regards, Michel
stusviews Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 The node in the ISY actually vanished. Any of the missing Z-Wave devices I was able to bring back, either by using a Z-wave tool or by including the device had the generic Z-Wave name. The name of the recovered devices remained the same as before vanishing (the generic name, that is, not the name I gave it). I was never able to exclude the missing devices, that is, the exclude widow remained open. Just now, I was able to restore one of the two vanished MimoLite I/O Modules. As before, the generic name was the same as it was before it disappeared. My (minimal) experience with Z-Wave is that newly included devices take on the next numeric value even if they've been excluded and then included again. Not this time. Edit: I was able to Include the module from its location in the garage.
Michel Kohanim Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Hi stusviews, Thank you. So, it seems that devices are being deleted (vanished) from ISY but their references remains in the Z-Wave dongle. That's why when you Synchronize, you get them back with a generic name. What is your firmware version? With kind regards, Michel
stusviews Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 Today the 2nd MimoLite module reappeared with its original generic name (Z-Wave ZW 0x). The only activity was that last night my wife was unable to close her garage door. Over the last few days that happened with my garage door, so I readily knew the cause and cure. The Mimilite relay was stuck on, cycling power did the trick. I did nothing further due to the late (really early) hour until today. Fortunately I have several ways to control the garage doors. But, I'm still at a loss about what's going on. Next step: Fix all the programs involved and then do a Z-Wave backup. I'm guessing that in the event another disappearing act occurs, a Z-Wave restore will fix the programs, too. But, that's just a band-aid, not a cure. ISY firmware and UI is v.4.6.2; Z-Wave Version 4.55; Bootloader Version 1.03.
Chris Jahn Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Hi stusviews, Very strange indeed. Normally the deletion of Z-Wave ISY nodes would only occur during a synchronize where some old ISY nodes remained for a device that was excluded. The only other reasons I can think of are either your Z-Wave network is corrupt or the ISY was added to an existing Z-Wave network and thus all of its devices were replaced with that of the other controller. We have not seen this occur in 5.X, but we've added it to the list to keep an eye out for it. If this happens again, before doing anything else, please try powering the ISY off then on again (not just reboot through admin console). This will cause both the ISY and Z-Wave dongle to restart.
stusviews Posted August 11, 2017 Author Posted August 11, 2017 Thanks, Chris. I have no other Z-Wave controllers. You mentioned that you haven't seen this occur in 5.X. Does that imply that is has occurred at sometime in 4.X?
MikeD Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Sorry to hear of your z-wave issues Stu. Have the Mimolite controlling garage door, Schlage BE469 on front door, Somfy ZRTSI blind controller, two Trane RCS-type thermostats, Aeotec doorbell, Multisensor 6, and a few other Aeotec devices. I have been without issues running on v4.5.4. Been reluctent to load the latest official since it has been so stable. Hope you get it sorted out. ~Mike
ggdowski Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I hear you. One day my zwave shades work, the next day the don't. Impossible to troubleshoot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MikeD Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 ggdowski, Are your z-wave nodes disappearing like Stu's issue, or your blinds not opening intermittently? If they are intermittent, I have two groups of blinds that are controlled by two separate programs. The groups of blinds are on different floors and occasionally one blind in a group will not open. I overcame this by sending the command to open a few times, separated by waits in the program.
stusviews Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 Day 2, all is well. Another case of gremlinks. Unlike gremlins, gremlinks always travel in pairs, thus dual-band gremlinks

I did that as well and it caused one or both to hiccup (best way I can describe it) when they received the second command. I think it's a failure of the repeater to send the first command when it receives it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ggdowski Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 That said I have thermostats and door locks that tend to disappear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jimbo.Automates Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 I am on 5.0.10 and have been for a while, and now this happened to me. All 3 nodes of my Aeotec energy meter ZW095 disappeared. What is even stranger is that 2 programs that referenced those devices also completely disappeared. I powered off the ISY as Chris suggested and they are still gone. I verified by restoring a backup for a few weeks ago, but I made a bunch of changes this weekend that I don't want to loose so I didn't stay with that backup. I had noticed this a couple weeks ago that my daily power report was zero, but assumed it was an issue with my program and hadn't taken the time to figure it out yet. Should I do a Synchronize -> All now?
giesen Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 I've been having this issue for quite a while for several 5.x releases. I honestly gave up on trying to keep my Yale door locks included to my ISY as I was sick of dragging them down to my ISY (or my ISY to them) to re-include them and was waiting until we had at least a beta release to test with again. Should I do a Synchronize -> All now? Hi Jimbo, Please open the event viewer at level 3, and then do Synchronize -> New & Deleted, this should bring back your nodes. Following that, restart the ISY and the admin console. Check to see if your programs reappear. You can either PM me or post the results here. This will at least tell us whether the nodes are being lost by the Z-Wave dongle (i.e. the Z-Wave network itself), or if it is just the ISY losing them for some reason.

Jimbo.Automates Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 To follow up on this. Chris had me try a few things without success, the missing nodes and programs didn't come back. He requested a backup of my system and will review it next week. As always, excellent customer service from UDI! I'm sure he will figure out the issue. Sent from my Pixel C using Tapatalk
