nwchicago Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 I am concerned a natural gas stovetop could accidentally be left on unlit. I would like to detect this. Has anyone given this a try? On Amazon I have found numerous non-zwave products. One of the better investment is the NEARTOP Household Natural Gas Detector Alarm - Liquefied Petroleum Gas Detector - Combustible Gas Leak Detector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y68B27N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YWwPzb8EM75NS Neartop combustible gas detector. Searching via google I have found: 1. Zipato Combustible Gas Detector https://www.zipato.com/product/combustible-gas-sensor-z-wave 2. Heimann Combustible Gas Sensor http://www.heimantech.com/product/82.html Has anyone tried to solve this problem? Are there any products you can recommend? What is the integration like? Thanks! Ps ultimately I would like to integrate a Gas shutoff too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
larryllix Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Doesn't your gas have the scent inserted into it that can be detected at 1/8 LEL? Maybe you are looking for detection while no humans are around to smell it? IIRC Many of the higher end stovetops have burners that self shut off if left on without heat produced. Perhaps a retrofit of the burners or gadgets produced by the stove manufacturers?
G W Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 My gas has a scent to it and my wife doesn't like it, even though she's from Vietnam. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
giesen Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Macurco ( https://www.aartech.ca/macurco-gd-2b.html ) is highly recommended on the Cocoontech.com forums, but a life safety device such as this should really be wired into an alarm panel, not something like the ISY. That being said, you could probably wire it into an I/OLinc. It also has a local buzzer. Greenfield ( https://www.greenfielddirect.com/automatic-security-valves/ ) makes shutoff valves designed for combustible gasses that can work with either a dry contact interface or Z-Wave Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
nwchicago Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 Thank you for the product suggestions, Macurco. I look forward to examining them as options! Unfortunately, my alarm panel is old and analog. I cannot integrate it with my isy (as far as I know). Very old ademco. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nwchicago Posted August 30, 2017 Author Posted August 30, 2017 I have a family member who leaves the house with the gas on. I am afraid she'll take a walk while the gas builds up and returns and blows up the house. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nwchicago Posted August 31, 2017 Author Posted August 31, 2017 So to use the Macurco product would I also need a fortrezz mimo lite to detect whether it's been tripped? Thanks. Neal Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Teken Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 Please be aware this sensor has a operational run time of 7 years. If they are anything like the many newer smoke / co detectors on the market today they will stop working when the internal clock elapses. But for $150.XX over seven years that isn't very expensive in the long run. I would inquire with the vendor to see if it stops working vs it's recommended to be replaced at the 7 year interval. Even if they tell you it doesn't lock out and stop working you need to replace it. As the chamber / sensor gets saturated over time just by normal idle use. If your family / friend is a smoker or serious curry / oily cooker expect less than 7.

Nothing is worse than having to worry about others impacting your home or safety. This is why there are certain things in my life / home I leave zero room for others to impact me. Sometimes this can come off as being a hard *** but you know what?? I only have one life to live and didn't spend the last XX years saving up to build a beautiful home only for someone to piss on it and blow it up.
