And where do we aquire this so called "AI" for our ISY?

 

Both the ISY portal utilizing Amazon's Echo devices and Google's Home and the latest iOS with Routines are AI based

    What is happening today is nothing compared to where the industry can/will be in 15 years let alone 25. It's all new for Mass consumption and adoption (for those that need things said specifically). 20 years ago we couldn't imagine having mini computers in our pockets. The same with what's happening now. In time we will get to the point of a proactive rather than reactive system

    That's a stretch. Hardly what I would call "AI" and definitely not what I'd classify as Home Automation.

    The truth is that we live in exciting times and there is a lot more to come.

    Right now home automation is for professionals or amateur techies, such as most of us here (I am only a small and older techie compared to some of you).  Making ISY work with Alexa, Google Home or IFTTT still needs effort. Even the Administrative Console of ISY requires a techie mind.  The next phase of home automation will be for my wife and kids, who won't  go beyond plugging in a device and it connecting straight to an easy to operate App on their phone, without any programming.

     

    I have my Samsung washer and dryer connected to wifi, but there is very little (if any) benefit to it.  But I look forward to my fridge ordering milk and eggs directly to Amazon Fresh, which then delivers it to my home. This is around the corner and, as I said, it is exciting.

    Not if you've already made up your mind contrary to substantial evidence to the contrary. By all accounts, AI is an integral part of HA. Do you really believe that Amazon Echo devices are not a part of HA? That they don't depend on AI?

     

    If so, then my responding is of no avail. I may as well discuss the issue with a tomato (no offense to vegetables intended) B)

    Well, I also think calling Alexa and Google Home "AI" is a bit of a stretch. So far I have not seen any sign of intelligence in either.

     

    Maybe there is some in the science behind the code but I feel it will be years before either are ready to automate a house.

    I wouldn't call Alexa or home AI. Especially based off of how the companies themselves talk up AI and machine learning. Neither device does either one. IMO they are simply responding to user input.

     

    For me, AI is akin to a computer learning a persons playing style to beat them at chess. In the automation world, it would be it learning my actions and acting accordingly without me asking. For example, it would learn that I enter my bedroom at certain times and automatically set it up to go to bed. Other times it would know I'm just passing through and do the actions for that.

     

    Alexa nor home does those things on it's on. You have to tell it to run a program that you have pre-written (less capable with other systems). In the end, they are no more than glorified remotes.

    For me, it would be knowing when I am home and knowing when and what I like. As it is, there is nothing that connects a home to an AI.

    For me, ISY can simulate low levels of AI. It is artificial and it has some intelligence, in the form of decision making, based on sensing parameters.

     

     Alexa does display some AI via the cloud databases, but not via HA.. 

     

    Alexa in combination with ISY, has no AI and as lilyoyo1 posted, is just a glorified remote.

I maintain that using my voice to turn on a light utilizes AI. I believe that the scientific term for this phenomenon is Conversational Artificial Intelligence.
