ZWave Node Increment

On version 5.0.11b, I have removed by exclusion all the zwave devices, removed leftovers by removing failed nodes, syncronized nodes, healed zwave network.

Assume I would be starting from scratch at this point yet when I add new zwave device it starts at a higner number eg ZW 11.  Why would it not start at ZW 01?

Hi pjjameso,

Unfortunately the only way you can reset the number is by factory resetting the Z-Wave dongle (totally controlled by Sigma firmware running inside the dongle). What you need to do:

1. Z-Wave | Advanced | Factory Reset

2. Z-Wave | Tools | Synchronize | All (get rid of any Z-Wave device in ISY)

3. Z-Wave | Exclude

4. Z-Wave | Include

With kind regards,

Michel

I have no intention at all to perform a factory reset but out of pure interest, what does it involve when doing

3. Z-Wave | Exclude
4. Z-Wave | Include

I do of course know what  Z-Wave Exclude and Include normally do with a specific device, but if one already got rid of all Z-wave devices in

2. Z-Wave | Tools | Synchronize | All (get rid of any Z-Wave device in ISY)

would steps 3. and 4.  be repeated for each device, or just once without any specific device ?

p.s. A few months ago I wrote that I did a factory reset (and you advised me against it...) but I now realize that it was not a factory reset. What I then did was to reformat the microcard in the ISY and perform a Restore. My experience has been that it helps speeding up the system by doing this once or twice a year.

Quite uncommon report.. I never restored my ISY since I bough it in 2012.

Regarding the ZWxxx enumeration, I agree it's quite annoying specially when you have a LOT of network parameters using the data location and after remove and add it again you can't simply maintain the number. As Mike said, it's a characteristic away from their control. For fixing this I did a factory reset on my dongle and start over using a recipe I wrote for my Z network.

Hi asbril,

Steps 3 and 4 are per device. Restoring should NOT improve performance. It's definitely something else.

It is really my experience that my system slows down over time. What I mean with that is that, after a few months,  when controlling lights in my AC a windows opens showing a percentage and it then takes a few seconds to react. This phenomenon disappears when I reformat the microcard and then restore the file. Over the past two years I may have done this about three times and each time the difference was noticeable.

Does upgrading the zwave firmware also do this?

I had this experience also after many failed attempts to upgrade ISY. Failed running v5 with v4 UI,  installed early Polyglot, failed, removed, reinstalled then repeated a few times with NodeLink in earlier versions.

Eventually I factory reset my ISY and things became like new again. My conclusion was that early methods of node server installs, left uncleaned out links to things that didn't function or exist any more. The difference in speed was extreme.

Did you mean that or is it a typo?

Yup. It was when the font sizing feature first came out, only on v4 UI and I misread postings that it could work with v5...about v5.0.1-.2 era. It hung my ISY completely and I had to factory reset my ISY. I learned the hard way when admin console shows a mess, don't ever edit or save your prgrams. :(

That factory reset cleaned up a huge speed slow down after the many failed node server attempts at installs and removals.
