Not sure if full support will be provided in 4.6.2 as this has been said to be last release of the 4.XX platform. UDI indicates they are still waiting for a revised API for this sensor. ETA? Pretty disappointed that UDI isn't fully supporting this device in the 4.x code base given it is a key device in any system. I understand the frustrations that UDI has with getting the API and like usual would probably need to reverse engineer it, but given it is such an important device in any home automation set up I would have thought UDI would have looked to solve this WITH FULL SUPPORT versus making folks wait for 5.x and we cannot even get a straight answer on when that will be officially released. Love the guys at UDI and always sing their praises but must admit this is the first time I am really disappointed in UDI. Link to comment

I am also disappointed that the Alarm and Siren Modules are not in going to be available. Until a version of 5.? is a Released version or even a fairly stable Beta. I believe they date back even further than the Motion Sensor II. Part of this is Smartlabs problems. Old management didn't seem too willing to share things. Even though I suspect the UDI line of products. Was helping Insteon to be more widely used. I even have a spare base model ISY994i and PLMs to play with but a Alpha is not my cup of tea. Hope new owners Richmond Capital Partners makes thing better but I suspect it may even get worse. They seem to want to to big things with internet connected things. dss Posted January 18, 2018 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Is there any functionality of the 2842-222? I was able to add it to the ISY and able to add it to a scene but it doesn't seem to do anything. I wan't it to turn the scene on when it detects motion and then go off if it does't detect motion after a certain period of time. Is the Sensing mode supposed to be checked or unchecked. Doesn't seem to make a difference. When I look at the Event Viewer 3 Device communication events I don't see any activity even though I see the light blinking along with motion. Link to comment

I just added mine, and got it functioning fine. The number of times you have to press the set button is short one in the insteon instructions. Hold once to enter linking, then you will have to press three times to return it to ready state. I have installed these in clients houses, and it's a stupid undocumented issues. After you press a second time it flashes faster, and a third is stops flashing....but, it will not react, or trigger properly until another set press. You can involve it in scene building as a controller at this point, and you will not need to put it in linking mode unless you want to edit it's built in settings, i.e.: no led, timeout. Another obscurely documented feature of the older style, and I imagine they kept it in the newer units, is the immediate send of dark detection. Tap the button seven times very quickly and it will send it's current light detection level without any delay of sensing. Well it still has a delay of about 5 seconds to detect instead of 3-5 minutes. Link to comment

mitchmitchell Posted March 25, 2018 Share Posted March 25, 2018 The old ones had a jumper where you could set them to send on messages only so the Isy could control when to turn the lights off - made it easy to have a program change the lights to 'manual mode' when you turned the wall switch on so the lights wouldn't go out on you when working in the area out of sight of the sensor. I know UDI has been waiting for the complete spec from SH for years now. Link to comment
mitchmitchell Posted March 27, 2018 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Hmm -- this makes me pause and think for a moment -- I switched from using programs (where I could deal with the off message) to scenes because the on time was so much faster. That was fine with the old units when they were set to never send an off message. Now I wonder if there isn't a way to manipulate the scene to prevent the off message from the new ones from having any effect. I'll have to experiment to see if there is a way to make a scene 'on only' so it ignores the off message. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I'm all ears. Link to comment

RKinOhio Posted March 28, 2018 Share Posted March 28, 2018 Same sensor, but a different question. I have a 2844-222 running through the ISY at v4.6.2. A program reacts to the motion 'on' signal to control a light between dusk and dawn; the program sets the on time. What I don't know is if the 2844-222 will send a 'low bat' signal that the ISY can read. If it does, I can send a text message indicating that it is time to change the battery. Has anyone worked with the 2844-222, ISY at 4.6.2 and the 'low bat' signal? What did you find? Thanks, RK Link to comment
