Goose66 Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Has it ever been looked into what it would take to make the ISY 994i a supported Home Automation device for the Logitech Harmony Hub? I don't mean allowing the ISY to initiate activities and control AV devices (I understand the myriad of ways to do that), I am talking about allowing the ISY 994i to be added as a "home automation device" to the Harmony Hub, such that it can be communicated with via wi-fi to control the Insteon/Zwave lighting devices and scenes therein. Seems like a simple interface to implement if Harmony is willing to add another partner.
Michel Kohanim Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Hi Goose66, We have never tried. With kind regards, Michel
Goose66 Posted June 14, 2018 Author Posted June 14, 2018 They say they have investigated but can't interface due to "certain hardware limitations." I wonder if that means some protocol is missing (SSL, TLS, etc.)?
Michel Kohanim Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Hi @Goose66, I have no clue. They definitely didn't contact us. With kind regards, Michel
Goose66 Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 So much for "investigated." Once jimbo gets the new Hue Bridge Emulator online that will cover it for me. There's also rumblings of (2-way) IFTTT integration coming. But if there opens up an opportunity to add an interface in the future so ISY shows up as a compatible device, I will circle back with you. Again, seems like a no-brainer, but I don't understand how it works over there at Logitech.
paulbates Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 I hear you, but I don't think adding single product software stacks directly to the local FW of an event based logic controller like the ISY is in the cards. Harmony's architecture is "Cloud" API, which would mean cloud-cloud integration. Either : IFTTT local device <> device's "cloud" API <> Harmony API. In our case, the ISY Portal is the "device's cloud" API. Its a natural fit for V5 nodeservers. That's why the ~30 devices between Polyglot and Nodelink are on V5 Nodeservers. My interpretation of the ISY architecture direction for all these devices is nodeservers. Related to this, I'm interested in what's coming behind the ISY Portal occupancy server -- polyglot node servers being deployed in the ISY Portal with a pretty much one click install.... no local server to fiddle with. For something not operation critical like the harmony, that would be perfect for me. Paul

It appears that at least the Hue Hub and probably several other of the home automation devices compatible with the Harmony Hub utilize local (LAN) access. I think you are conflating cloud-based configuration with cloud-based operation.
